I've had some trouble getting the WiFi connection between X-T1 and my iPhone4 working. It would only work for a short time before the connection got lost. After googling for help and trying  different settings I think I understand what went wrong and how to fix it. Glad to share my solution with you.

Connection can get lost for 3 reasons, you have to eliminate all 3 to keep a stable WiFi-connection, even if you don't take a picture for some time.

1) X-T1 goes to sleep after a few minutes. Set: Menu/Setup2/power management/auto power off/off : X-T1 stays awake

2) iPhone4 goes to sleep. Set settings/general/automatic lock/never : iPhone stays awake

3) iPhone4 goes looking for a WiFi network that will give access to the internet to update your mail/whatsapp/facebook etcetera.

Set settings/Wi-Fi/Ask to join networks/off and

set settings/cellular/cellular data/off and

set settings cellular/cellular data network/off : iPhone stays glued to the WiFi connection with your X-T1

And, one final advice: if you are in the picture yourself set the self timer of the X-T1 to 2 seconds. Otherwise everybody else in the picture will be smiling at the birdie and you will be staring at your iPhone, taking the picture. (shooting menu2/self timer/2 sec)

See attached picture for an example of how stupid that looks!

Good luck, hope your learning curve can be steeper than mine. Once you know how to do it it, it's not difficult.

Thanks for info.

That remote control function isn't important for me, but I tried it once with my Android tablet, Nexus 7, and got exactly the same poor communication, with unexpected losses. It was very frustrating.

Probably in a next days I will check these settings to get stable work.

You can make #3 much shorter: Flight Mode ON, WiFi ON.

Good tip.

For #1 and #2 you could also just choose a longer timespan than what you had previously, that way you won't end up with a dead phone/camera the next time you put it down and forget that you completely disabled one of the most important features of a battery-driven device (i.e. auto-sleep).

None of this would be nearly as necessary if the app's wifi connection wasn't so damn fragile. As soon as ANYTHING isn't absolutely perfect it dies completely and forces you to start from scratch, makes me crazy. I don't understand why it can't maintain the wifi connection when your phone goes to sleep, and especially why it quits out of the connection completely when you switch to review mode.

Anyway thanks for the tips. Definitely good to keep in mind when you have time to get set up but not to redo everything when it fails ;)

hi Guys,

thanks for your replies.

@Trenton Talbot: Flight mode ON, Wifi On does not work for me, it doesn't keep my iPhone from connecting to my home WiFi and break the X-T1 connection.

I'll stick to the somewhat more elaborate procedure I described.

@jeremyclarke: I quite agree with your worries about the batteries. For the X-T1 a spare should never be far away, unfortunately that doesn't work for the iPhone.

Judging by the photo you posted at the start of this topic, your home WiFi has a really impressive range!  :D
