That 35mm f1.4 magic in other Fujinon lenses?
petergabriel replied to petergabriel's topic in Fuji X Lenses
I now own the 14, 23 f1.4, 27, 35 f1.4, 50 and 18-55 kit lens. As for magic the 35 f1.4 is a clear winner, and although the 14 and 23 f1.4 are more clinical, I find their rendering just beautiful. The 27 is sharp and very saturated which goes for the 50 f2 as well, and at first I was impressed, but the more I use them the more I find them looking over processed and digital. You know, where the contrast gets just that tad bit to black. I am seriously considering the 90mm, especially after so many of you state it has that magic rendering as well. Any samples, preferably sooc, with magic in them will be greatly appreciated :-) -
I like the images I have seen by it. When I used Nikon gear I could easily see in my library that I almost never used my 50mm f1.8, now I own the Fujinon 50mm f2 and use it all the time, so maybe the 90mm will surprise me. I will use it mainly for portraits. I am not a big fan of its size though. I have heard people using the 23mm f1.4 metal hood with it successfully, so that will help a bit length wise.

The reason I ask, is that I am interested in the lens for portraits, but it is by far the most sold Fujinon lens on the most popular used market site in my country, which makes me wonder why its not a keeper for so many people? Any ideas? It is supposed to be SHARP, but does it lack character or whar else might cause it?

I hate the cap that comes with the 27mm, so I was wondering if a cap like on the x100 line that fits over the entire lens exists.

Survey: Fuji X-T2 or Fuji X-Pro2?
petergabriel replied to FX Admin's topic in Fuji X-T2 / Fuji X-T20
@mostlyphotos I had the same experience when first trying the x-pro2. Kept back focusing and just behaving weird inside the store. I am almost certain your test model had the old firmware, because with firmware 3.0 the camera works great. I now own one :-) Face detection is not that impressive though. -
My X-Pro2 Review.
petergabriel replied to adzman808's topic in Fuji X-Pro 1 / Fuji X-Pro 2 / Fuji X-Pro 3
Great read. I wish I was a bit more resolute. I have the 14mm, 23mm f1.4, 27mm and 35mm f1.4. Love them all. Looking for the 56mm second hand. Not APD as phase detection is disabled on that version. -
I got the x-pro1 a few years back as a kinda last minute purchase (used, mint, really cheap) before going on summer holiday, and I totally fell in love with the camera - actually stating to my girlfriend; this is the best camera I have ever owned! I love the image quality, the image character, the feel of the camera and its simplicity. Love it! So, the x-pro2 was announced and I immediately started to drool. Wow, same feel, better AF, face detection and what not. A sure winner! Well, now I have it (bought used, mint, cheap) and for all its bells and whistles I can't seem to fall in love with it the same way I did my old x-pro1 (which I still own). I see the extra sharpness and details provided by the increase in pixels, and the AF is great. The image quality as a whole is also great. Sharp, contrasty, punchy colors. And actually that is what I don't like about the camera. I kinda feel like it has lost that magic Fujifilm look, and now looks like what every other quality camera produces. Don't get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with the image quality, I just miss that Fujifilm character of old. I have owned an x-100s and t, still have an x-t1 and the two x-pro incarnations, and it wasn't until the x-pro2 that I started to look for that magic Fujifilm character. Am I the only one who feels like it just isn't there anymore?

View Modes - Fujifilm please!

Cool. I actually think it shouldn't be that hard to implement. -
X-pro2 EVF only - I wish!
petergabriel replied to petergabriel's topic in Fuji X-Pro 1 / Fuji X-Pro 2 / Fuji X-Pro 3
@Threaded I like the form factor of the x-pro2 and EVF of x-t2. I never use the OVF, and from what I have read the OVF is the culprit for the high asking price of the x-pro2 even though the x-t2 does so much more. I believe Fujifilm is a bit hazy as to which of the two models is their true flagship model. In many ways it must be the x-t2. It is certainly already getting a lot more kaizen love from Fujifilm even though the x-pro2 is their most expensive model.. -
I often change view modes and it annoys me that I have to toggle between all those options when all I ever want to change between is two of them - EVF only and display. Would love if Fujifilm made it possible like custom screen setup to tick options on/off for views, so I can end up with e.g. my two favorite view modes only when I toggle between the options.

I wish Fujifilm would make an EVF only version of the x-pro2 with OLED instead of TFT and with higher magnification. I know alot of people find the OVF awesome, but I didn't choose my x-pro2 because of it, I chose it because of the x-pro2's form factor. I know the x-e2 comes close, but it is still to far away when it comes to build quality, shutter quality/speed/sound, joystick and display resolution. To me an x-pro2 with an EVF as close to the x-t2's EVF as possible would be a dream camera to me.

I just bought the Fujinon 27mm f2.8 really cheap and took it for a spin this weekend. Wow! It is super sharp, contrasty and the colors are PUNCHY! My 35mm f1.4 is all pastel colored and dreamy looking compared to this little beast. Love both lenses, but I am truly positively surprised by that 27mm.

My X-Pro2 Review.
petergabriel replied to adzman808's topic in Fuji X-Pro 1 / Fuji X-Pro 2 / Fuji X-Pro 3
As always, a great read. Thank you for the 85.000+ :-) -
What about the character of the lenses? I have read the 50mm is kind of warm.

I only use primes. The old f1.4 ones.

Survey: Fuji X-T2 or Fuji X-Pro2?
petergabriel replied to FX Admin's topic in Fuji X-T2 / Fuji X-T20
Poll or not. Based on form factor and button layout, definetely x-pro 2. Don't like the play and delete placement on the x-t2, nor the display button on the hump. Only thing that annoys me about the x-pro is the lower evf magnification and tft instead of oled (less saturated, black level not on par) and that it already seems that Fujifilm is throwing more Kaizen love towards the x-t2, as shown in the latest firmware update, where obvious improvements were omitted from the x-pro 2, but given to x-t2. -
With the new firmware. On my x-t1 face detection worked very sporadically and I gave up eye detection entirely. Initial reviews of the xt2 and xpro2 indicated that it had improved, but not by much, so what about the new firmware. Is face and eye detection actually useable now (also in low light)?
