To set your shutter mode go to Shooting Menu 5 (red 5), select Shutter type and set to MS or MS + ES to ensure you are getting the mechanical shutter when you are using a shutter speed of 1/4000 or below. Now make sure your shutter speed is 1/180 or below, as the mechanical shutter only syncs with flash at 1/180 or below. Your issue is more likely that you're over the sync speed than being in Electronic Shutter only mode.

What LR version are you using? From what I understand the latest version does feature Adobe's interpretation of the Film Simulations, but also they're not as accurate as what PhaseOne delivered in C1.

Stick with LR or switch to Capture One?
mawz replied to teaandcake's topic in RAW Conversion Fuji X Photos
There's a lot of install-specific optimizations you can do on C1 to improve performance and optimize file sizes. I've found it to be significantly faster than LR overall once setup correctly, but out of the box it can be slow. The biggest wins are GPU acceleration and selecting an optimized preview size (should be 1 step larger than your monitor resolution). There's definitely a learning curve for C1 and it's a desktop app, not a mix of desktop & mobile apps. I honestly pay for both in order to get the LR mobile apps (useful on the road) and PS. LR Classic is just an occasionally-used bonus for me in that package (I absolutely despise the new LR Cloud desktop app, it's trash IMHO) -
Is the Fujifilm X RAW studio essential to workflow?
mawz replied to UFObuster's topic in RAW Conversion Fuji X Photos
I've never even installed the Fuji apps except for the new Webcam app (and that's not even on my processing rig). My workflow is Capture1 or Capture1+Photoshop. I'll admit I've yet to be impressed by LR's results from Fuji RAW's, but for a long-time LR user I'd focus on that unless you really find yourself disappointed in the results. -
Lightroom messing with DR400
mawz replied to confusedshooter's topic in RAW Conversion Fuji X Photos
The DR settings do not play well with RAW converters at all. It's not just LR, but all non-Fuji converters. What's happening is you are seeing the vibrant embedded JPEG initially, then the unconverted RAW afterwards. The solution sadly is to set your camera to DR100 and ignore the DR feature unless you're shooting for JPEG. All it really does is underexpose and bring up the shadows when generating the JPEG. -
I'd expect the X-H2 to have the flip screen, since the X-H line is Fuji's most video oriented and the flip screen is a video thing. I was surprised when the X-T4 got it, the flip screen should have been only on the X-H's and the X-A/X-Tx00 line. Fuji's dual-tilt screen is the best implementation of a screen for stills work and should be maintained on the X-Tx line and added to the X-Tx0's too.

How To Turn Off Picture Review After Just Taking Picture?
mawz replied to Jazz1's topic in Fuji X-H1 / Fuji X-H2s / Fuji X-H2
Setup Menu - Screen settings - Image Display will disable Image review for all but one particular configuration. The exception is if your VIEWMODE is set to Eye Sensor + LCD Playback, where upon you'll get plaback if you shoot via the EVF then take the camera away from your face. -
Cost is the only advantage to the Fuji-only version. the only difference in capability for the paid version is that the Fuji-specific version only supports Fuji RAW files, vs all supported camera's ARW & DNG files. All versions support TIFF/JPEG/etc There's also the free Express version for Fuji. That version loses capabilities.

I'd seriously suggest looking at the X-T3 changelog before making that claim. There's been a lot of love from Fuji for the X-T3, and the last major firmware update was in January with AF improvements. Only the V2.x updates were video-focused, all the v3 updates have been either stills focused or equally useful across both stills and video. Ver.3.21 The firmware update Ver.3.21 from Ver.3.20 incorporates the following: Fix of minor bugs. Ver.3.20 The firmware update Ver.3.20 from Ver.3.10 incorporates the following: Enhanced autofocus. *Improving the tracking performance of the eye AF frame, making it easier to attain accurate autofocus on the eyes. *Improving face-detection performance when there are faces of different sizes within the same frame, making it easier to attain accurate autofocus. *Improving autofocus capability on a foreground subject even when there is a mixture of foreground and background subjects within a AF frame, causing the foreground subject to go out of focus, e.g. when shooting flowers against a busy background. Capability to save up to 9,999 pictures in each folder. Until now, the number of pictures that can be saved in a folder on an SD card was limited to 999. This update will raise the limit by ten times to 9,999 pictures. The phenomena below during a movie shooting are fixed. *Focus hunting at the minimum aperture. *A black line can sometimes appear on the bottom of the center. Fix of minor bugs. Ver.3.10 The firmware update Ver.3.10 from Ver.3.01 incorporates the following issues: Regarding the details of No.1, download the “X-T3 New Features Guide” from our website. We've really seen nothing but bug fixes and performance tweaks on the X-T4 firmware. The X-T4 is on v 1.02 and all the changelog lists are bug fixes, while the X-T3 has received very significant updates and is on v3.21 The X-T4 really hasn't received any love beyond bug fixes, the X-T3 has had a lot however.

Then you need a Sony A mount adapter like this one: https://www.amazon.ca/Fotodiox-Adapter-Minolta-Fujifilm-Mirrorless/dp/B008BBI8AO
-
Stock simulation should have the normal settings for highlights, shadows colour and sharpening, but not for WB, which is controlled separately from the film simulations (note that both simulations and WB can be set with the Custom Setting, which is what you're doing in the Q menu)

I notice that Smallrig is stating that their X-T3 L-Backet is also usable with the X-T2. Can anyone confirm? And is the same true for other X-T3 brackets?
-
This was from an X-T1 and an adapted Micro-Nikkor 55mm f3.5 AI macro lens The Bee by Adam Maas, on Flickr You've got nothing to worry about, there are some superb macro lenses in 35mm SLR mounts and those lenses generally work very well on an X-T3.
-
Figured it out, the VIEWMODE got another option, Eye sensor+LCD Playback, which isn't on the X-T1. I was in that mode and switching to Eye Sensor only got everything working.
-
Two possibilities. 1. You hit the Viewmode button by accident, and switched it to EVF-only mode. This is most likely as it's the first option you get by pressing that button and the LCD still does playback when this is selected. Press the VIEWMODE button again to cycle through all the options there. 2. You have some debris in the eyecup which is confusing the eye sensor and pushing the camera into EVF mode.

Was compressed raw ever made available on the x-t1?

Lossless compressed RAW is only available on the 24MP and 26MP bodies. -
My adapted lens collection... so far
mawz replied to Jon Lawrence's topic in Adapting lenses to Fuji X
Yellowing is very common on certain older 'radioactive' glass used by some lens makers. Takumars and early FD lenses were noted for this and it's hard to find a non-yellowed Super-Takumar 50mm f1.4 for example. As to lenses, I adapt a mix of newer and older manual focus glass and currently have the following non-AF lenses that get used on my Fuji's to some extent or another: Laowa 15mm f4 Macro (F mount, modern but manual focus and 1:1 macro) Nikkor 20mm f2.8 AF (works fine as a manual lens) Nikkor 24mm f2.8 K non-AI Neewer 25mm f1.8 MC (rebranded 7Artisans, native Fuji mount but non-electronic) Nikkor-H 28mm f3.5 Nikkor 35mm f2 AI Super Takumar 35mm f3.5 Nikkor-S.C 5cm f1.4 LTM (my oldest and most beloved lens) Nikkor 50mmf 1.8D (like the 20, works fine as a manual lens) Micro-Nikkor 55mm f3.5 AI Nikkor 105mm f2.5 AI-S (the famous 'Afghan Girl' lens) Nikkor 200mm f4 AI Nikkor 300mm f4.5 K Ai'd Nikkor 70-300mm f4-5.6 AF-D (works just fine as a manual lens) Nikkor 50-135mm f3.5 AI-S Vivitar 70-150mm f3.8 MC C/Y mount -
Just picked up an X-T2 to finally move up from the 16MP bodies and I'm tripping over a minor issue that's annoying. Simply put I hate post-shot image playback. Drives me nuts and eats battery too. I have Image Disp. set to off in Screen Settings, and do not get image playback in the EVF, or on the LCD normally. However if I shoot an image while using the EVF, then take the camera away from my face immediately after taking a picture, the camera presents a display of the most recently shot image rather than the Live view feed. And I do this a lot. How the heck do I disable this?

Using MCEX-16 and Nik - FX convertor
mawz replied to Geoff Weber's topic in Adapting lenses to Fuji X
That is correct, and also the reason why extension tubes aren't effective on long lenses. Extension is bellows extension, not focal length extension. Extension tubes add bellows extension. To get 1:1 magnification for macro work you need extension equivalent to the focal length of the lens if the lens is at infinity focus. That means a 55mm lens needs 55mm of extension to hit 1:1, but a 300mm lens needs 300mm of extension to hit 1:1 from infinity. If the lens reaches 1:2 magnification at Minimum Focus Distance, then you need an additional 1/2 focal length of extension to reach 1:1, so that 55mm needs 27.5mm of extension to go from 1:2 to 1:1. But a 70-300 that reaches 1:2 (like the older Tamron 70-300 non-VC) needs 150mm. That extension is what the extension tube provides. Naturally it's a LOT easier to get a tube configuration providing 27mm of extension (which the usual 11mm+16mm pair provides), but quite difficult to get 150mm of extension to get the 70-300 there (and remember, that 70-300 is only going to be at max magnification when it's at 300mm, so no cheaping out and adding 35mm to get it there at the 70mm setting). -
The FD lenses are versatile, but if you go EF you can adapt most DSLR mounts other than FD or MD to EF with cheap & small adapters that can be left on the lens. If you're using an FD to X adapter, you can only mount FD lenses or M42 as well (if you can find the rare Canon M42 Adapter). Note if you are adapting only manual lenses, a non-electronic EF adapter can be used readily, which are cheaply available but don't support controlling native EF lenses.

Which wrist strap for X-T2?
mawz replied to Hermelin's topic in Bags, Half Cases & Straps for Fuji X
I use a strap similar to a Gordy's on my X-E2, but prefer the Peak straps for my X-T1 as it makes it trivial to switch between a wrist strap and a neck strap (I actually use an older Crumpler neck strap with Peak connectors, they sell the connectors separately) -
Are xt-3 and lens kit prices going up after the holiday?
mawz replied to Normo's topic in Fuji X Rumors & News
Keep an eye here or on Fuji Rumors for upcoming sales, There are usually 3 big sales from Fuji a year, but with this year I expect more due to the need to keep sales up in a bad market. -
You'll need to know which mount the Sigma lens has. Sigma has made lenses in more than a dozen different mounts and not all of them are adaptable to X mount (For example, they make lenses in EF-M, Sony E, Leica/Panasonic/Sigma L mount and m43 mount, none of which are readily adaptable to X mount)

I'd suggest doing your research before complaining about this. The V speed rating is relatively new and Sandisk has not refreshed their UHS-II offerings since the V spec was released. Sandisk's V30 cards are their latest UHS-I cards, and that is the highest rating that can be applied to UHS-1 cards. These are actually capable of almost V90 performance (measured sustained sequential writes of over 85MB/s) and would have been rated as V60 cards if that rating was available for UHS-1 cards (which are artificially limited to V30 as a max rating despite the top UHS-1 cards delivering performance that essentially matches the V90 requirements) Sandisk's UHS-II cards all qualify for the highest speed ratings available at the time of their introduction. However testing on sequential write shows sustained write performance of over 240MB/s, some two and a half times better than a V90 spec would require. https://www.cameramemoryspeed.com/reviews/sd-cards/sandisk-extreme-pro-300-mbs-uhs-ii-128gb-sdxc-memory-card/#:~:text=II card reader.-,Performance,fast for an SD card. Note if you compare performance, only one V90 rated card has faster sustained write performance than the Sandisk Extreme Pro UHS-II cards, and it's the Sony Tough card that's middle of the pack in terms of the top performers (most of which are not V90 rated). The fastest sustained write cards on the market are not V90 rated because the spec is too new) So, in summary a quick check of actual performance would show you that Sandisk's top performance UHS-II cards had exceeded V90 spec before that spec existed. You should be using UHS-II cards for maximum performance in a X-T4 body.
