  1. I have just put my name down for a Fuji X100v as a carry all camera in support of my X-S10. Since purchasing the X-S10 I have fallen in love with Fuji cameras and think that the X100v will be a great pocketable/small bag camera. I have a few questions that I have been unable to answer by searching on-line. 1. How does one set up the camera for back button fucus? 2. If I fit the water proofing adapter and filter is the lens cap still useable? 3. How important is it that a lens hood is fitted? Does the lens need it? I have seen a number of videos of pro photographers using the X100v without a lens hood. 4. Any other advice would be appreciated. Many thanks, Dave.
  2. I know the discussions about software are on-going but why do Fuji users limit their software choices. There is other software out there. Download a trial and see if it works for you. I personally use On1 Photo RAW 2021 and it does a beautiful job with the raw and jpeg files from my X-S10. I also need no other software as it provides full management capability as well as layering, focus bracketing etc.
  3. rickc, on the 16-80mm lens you need to set the aperture ring to the 'A' setting (auto). Now, with the exposure mode set to manual you will find the front dial adjusts the aperture. If you take the lens aperture ring off of 'A' then only the lens ring adjusts aperture. Best wishes, DaveC.
  4. Welcome rickc, I too was new to Fuji when I got my X-S10 and 16-80mm last December. It is a great camera and lens combo. Point 1. To wake up the camera just half press the shutter button but keep it pressed for a second or too and it will wake up. When half pressed you will feel the IBIS doing its thing , thats OK, just keep it pressed till it wakes up. Point 2. Set the X-S10 to M mode on the mode dial and you will have aperure on the front dial and shutter speed on the rear dial. Then set the iso to Auto, Press the iso button on the top plate and use the joy stick to scroll down to the auto iso settings. The user manual does explain the auto iso settings quite well (the pdf that is). Note you can also re-assign the top left dial to exposure compensation if you like that as well. I have been using these settings just lately to photograph butterflies at high shutter speeds. I came from using Canon and Nikon cameras and find the image quality is outstanding and hope you continue to enjoy the camera. Best wishes DaveC.
  5. Victor, you should consider the X-S10 with a 16-80mm zoom. Probably the best travel combo in the Fuji range. I have owned one since last December and love it. You may not like the idea if you are a dedicated Fuji user with all the manual dials but something with the XT4 image quality, IBIS and lightness, you cannot go wrong. I know it is not perfect for Vlogging but as a photographer I am not interested in the video aspect of cameras. Check out the test reviews on-line. Good luck, Dave.
  6. That is an interesting idea but I do use various film sims quite a lot so would miss the ability to adjust film sims using the top left dial. The problem with this camera is that it has so many useful facilities and not enough dials or buttons for everything. But then what camera does. The X-S10 does have a lot of dials and buttons and I love it.
  7. Mine arrived yesterday, it was worth waiting for.
  8. Thanks for your replies, looks like when I am shooting birds or wildlife I should just use a high iso setting (1600, 3200 etc. ) and adjust as needed. This seems a strange decision by Fuji but perhaps they have their reasons. Thanks again.
  9. Minimum shutter speed seems to be limited to 1/500 sec when setting auto iso. For bird photography I would like to use 1/1000 sec. Is 1/500 sec the limit for the X-S10? Appreciate it if any one knows.
  10. I have the X-S10. Your list needs updating but I am sure you already know that.
  11. I ordered one in March and am still waiting.
  12. I use On1 and am very happy with it. The file management is very effective. I shoot jpeg and RAW in my XS-10 and like the fact that I can create a virtual copy of jpegs or RAW files for editing. Download a trial of the On1 Photo Raw software and watch some of their tutorial videos.
  13. I also have found no way of formatting the memory card other than through the main menu. It should be possible to add it to My Menu at least but it cannot be done at the moment. Frustrating.
  14. Engeltje, the cameras histogram works perfectly, I use the histogram all the time. Dave.
  15. You lucky people. In the UK we are still waiting for the lens, predicted for early May. Believe it when I see it. I cannot wait to get my one.
  16. I use X-S10 compressed RAF files (lossless) with On1 2021 and have no problem.
  17. I have just looked at Würzburg, Germany on line and it looks like an amazing place for photography. Old buildings, fantastic bridges over the river. The possible projects are endless. What about the bridges of Wurzburg, day night, different weather and seasons. You talk about the agriculture, how about a farming project. find a local farmer willing to let you on site. Farmers use amazing machinery which is always photogenic, especially in B&W. It is too easy to dismiss your home town because it is so familiar. Believe me, I live by the sea and have thousands of images of the same stretch of beach, you have to work at it to make it interesting. Good luck and enjoy your photography.
  18. I have just downloaded the fuji camera remote app (android) for use with my X-S10. When I run the app it presents a list of cameras to choose from but the X-S10 is not there. With no camera to select I seem unable to go any further with the app. The fuji web site shows the remote app as compatible with the X-S10. Any one have any thoughts on this? Thanks, Dave.
  19. If you look at my post of 7th January you will see that the problem was resolved, I had been pressing buttons in the wrong sequence, my post explains. This was a problem using manual bracketing and selecting point A + B. Thankyou very much for showing your interest.
  20. Anybody out there using the Fuji made macro extension tubes with a Fuji 16-80mm zoom? Particularly interested in its usability hand held, as well as the degree of enlargement. Thanks, Dave.
  21. Mig, I have a X-S10 and am very pleased with it. You can have a different WB setting in each of the custom settings as well as in aperture priority or shutter priority or any other mode. If you set custom mode 1 to a WB setting of Daylight and then work in aperture priority with a auto WB but then switch back to custom mode 1 you will be back in daylight WB setting. When you switch back to aperture priority mode you will be back in auto WB. You cannot bracket a custom setting, that makes no sense. A custom setting can incorporate a bracketed setting of some type. You set up your camera with a variety of different settings eg black and white, auto WB, AF-C and then save them all as a custom setting so you can recall those settings whenever you need them. For example I have C-1 set for action photography, C-2 for black and white and C-3 for sun rise and sun set (using different film sims and WB). RAW files are not affected by WB in the camera. You assign a WB to them when you edit them . Hope this helps, Dave.
  22. Success, the Auto focus bracket setting now works as intended. My mistake was in selecting the Drive mode first and then trying to set the menu settings. I would like to thank everyone who has offered assistance in this, you have all been most kind. This is the advantage of a good user forum. Happy New Year to you all, Dave.
  23. Thankyou Jerryy, I have now watched this video and will try to follow his instructions and let everyone know how I got on.
  24. I have tried the auto settings and the camera fired off dozens of frames when I set it to 5. My real problem is with the section in the user manual that I explained in my first message. The manual says I can specify the start and end points but it does not work. For landscape work this is essential, you cant stand there waiting for the camera to fire off a large number of frames when hand holding the camera. I would love to hear from anyone who has found out how to do this. Clearly I need to experiment a lot with the settings available. Thanks for your reply, I appreciate the help, Dave.
  25. Yes I have, it does not discuss the setup as explained in the X-S10 user manual. Using the advice in this video I can get the camera to Focus Bracket but it is guesswork as to where the focussing stops. Thanks for your reply, Dave.
