  1. I have both a D3S and D800 as work cameras and while they have nice selections, the lenses are much heavier and also a lot more expensive. The D500 has at least as good IQ as the D750 but is much better on the ISOless, which is something I grew accustomed with Fuji sensors. Plus, the D500 allows me to go really deep in low light performances, the F1.8 zooms added on top of that, I could take picture in close darkness and still be confident about what I captured. I really hate to walk around with the trinity set of pro lenses, with a D800 body, it gets really heavy, a D500 with the 2 Sigmas will be really light compared to that. Of course it is going to be heavier than the Fuji, but it serves another purpose. I need a lighter workhorse, something I can trust no matter what. Fuji is good, but not yet to that point. There is always a little something when you reach extremes. The X-T1 6400 ISO files are barely usable, let's not even talk about the 12k ISO or anything above, the D500 at least have cleaner ISO up to 12k ISO easily, even the 25k ISO files are usable, that's already 2 stops of usable files, toss in the F1.8, I am pretty good when lights go away. Another point that matters a lot for me is the lens swapping, I really don't like doing that, part of the reasons why I love the XF 18-135 lens on my X-T1, even if they are heavier, I just need to swap between 2 lenses and a body that could take 1250 pictures, but based on personal experience with Nikon DSLR, I could very easily double up that number. I have seen a colleague going to an event coverage with a D800 with less than 8% battery left, came back with 500 pictures and still 2% battery left. I could have burned at least 2 Fuji batteries under the same conditions. And last point, those Sigmat Art zoom lenses are made with DX format in mind, a FF would have quite a vignetting with those lenses. Agreed about the friendly discussion, I moved away from FF Nikon from my leisure time for exactly the same reasons you have cited before, ie. overall weight. But that D500 is not going to replace the Fuji, both serves different purposes and usage. But I still need to try the 50-100 first before I will make any decision, but the Sigma 18-35 zoom is already on the list of "must buy if D500". As for the weight, I have worked before with a 70-200 F2.8 on a D3S, that was heavy as an anvil and about as agile now that I remember it. So yeah, the D500 even with the 50-100 will feel rather lighter compared to that.
  2. Nah, both are for different usage, I do not believe in a single system that will fulfill all my needs. At least in photography. Fuji will still remain as my leisure camera but I want to replace either the D3S or the D800 with that D500.
  3. You raised that point a couple I'm of times already and I am going to offer a counter argument which is the physical space of all your primes take compared to the zooms, I would have your coverage with 2 lenses and a body, I could walk around with just a small lens bag and be good about my need. Plus I won't be changing lenses that often if any if I know in advance were I will be going. Also, currently the D500 is a much better performer than the X-T1, the X-Pro2 could be closing the gap but it is still not quite up there for the AF-C mode. If things move fast, Fuji is still currently behind. But I am not comparing the two camera and their systems against each other, I want both to be complementary of each other.
  4. I have a M42 Super Takumar 105 mm F2.8 with a focal reducer, it is tighter than a 85mm but I rather like it. Do be careful, it can be soft wide open, but I just love the bokeh of it so there is a choice to make about it when you are taking your shot.
  5. More than just a few compact lenses, the format is severely lacking on sub 100mm primes, aside the 35mm F1.8 there is really not much else. But I do agree that Sigma did upped the game with those 2 F1.8 zoom lenses, the 18-35 is already well known for its quality and performance, the 50-100 seems to be going in the same direction too, but I am waiting to be able to hold it before I will make any judgment about it. I am still waiting for the XT-2 to decide if the D500 could be a nice addition to my collection or if the XT-2 would be better, lens wise I am planning for both F1.8 Sigman zooms, the Nikkor DX 16-80 F2.8-4 and most likely the Nikkor FX 300mm F4 for the long end.
  6. I doubt they would be releasing anything this year, unless they have been keeping another hidden project like the D500. I know that Nikon is working on a FF mirrorless camera and they are most likely on the testing phase, but I don't think they will announce anything worthwhile, specially not after D5/D500 from earlier this year. The D500 is still severely lacking on the lenses, beside a few decent one, nothing much has been released in the past 3 years for the DX format. As for Canon, the M3 series is just so bad I don't even get how they have been able to make several version of it, plus Canon home made sensor is well known to have several issues if you have missed your exposition. So I don't think they would have anything to release in the mirrorless department for Q3-Q4 this year. Maybe early next year or something ?
  7. They usually do new camera announcement at big Photography conventions, and between now and end of years, there is only Paris in November, which is getting less and less attendency and Photokina in September. Not much else to really make a big announcement like a second version of a well prized camera. It's really not far fetched to guesstimate the announcement being done during Photokina, plus we got semi-confirmation about the XF 23mm F2 also being announced at that time, would make sense to have a lens + body combo during that event.
  8. Oh certainly, first of all Fuji is not even using the same ISO standard as Canikon, as you said it yourself. I forgot all the technicalities of it but, they do have different ISO behavior while at the same ISO numerical value. That started the whole "Fuji Cheats their ISO" thingy a couple of years ago and we are still seeing that comment pops up every one in a while. Long story short, there is about 2/3 stops worth of differences between Fuji ISO standard and Canikon's.
  9. Printed Wiring Board, another word for PCB, Printed Circuit Board. Basically, the green plastic board that holds all your connectors/sensors/...
  10. Plus on a lot of cameras the ISO 50 is actually simulated, so there is that too.
  11. When traveling, I carry around some of those easy to use cleaning sticks that comes with pre-hydrated swabs and use them only when I really have to. Otherwise I just go to my regular shop and have them do it for me. If things mess up, at least I didn't do it and the shop have insurance for these kind of incidents.
  12. If you want to go ultra wide it is very hard to beat the 10-24 F4 at the moment, great lens, and the OIS is just pure gold, allows around 4 stops of stabilization. I have taken shots at 1/15 of a sec hand held and the picture still came out sharp. As for the 18-135, it's ,my personal, most used lens. I travel a lot to places where changing lenses is very inconvenient, thus that super zoom lens is about my best friend, the WR and 5 stops OIS makes it very easy to use even on the longest range. If I compare it to any other of my Fuji lenses, it's about the worst IQ (10-24, 27, 35 F1.4/F2 and 60) among them, but I still use it the most often because of the practicality of it. But as Nero said, there could be some QC issues on that lens, I have seen shots taken with it that makes me wonder if the guy is actually able to use a camera at all while others are perfectly fine with their lens. So your millage might vary. Best advice, buy it from Mamazon, give it a try for 30 days, if all goes fine, keep it. If you have issues, send it back and ask for another one.
  13. Swap to a legacy lens, pretty much the only thing that could help you out here.
  14. I love Billingham product but my small man purse cost at least half the price and serves the same function. For larger bags, we can start having a conversation about it. But for small bags that you just carry with you with a camera and a couple of lenses max along some necessities, I really can not approve of the price of the Hadley Digital.
  15. DPR is partially right, on some specific shots, the Sony a6300 does outshine the X-Pro2 a tad bit, but at that level, it's more personal taste than anything else, the differences are counted in pixels and unless you spend a lot of time looking at your pictures at 400%, it's not that much noticeable. Beside, what good is a better sensor if there are no lens to put in front of it ? That's one of the great strength of Fuji, they make their own glasses, they have a lot of good knowledge about it in-house already and don't have to look away to find talent. My apologies, you are indeed correct. As for the blackout, I guess I need to rent the X-Pro2 over a nice week-end with enough actions to put it to a good test, I think there is a Flyball competition a bit outside of where I live, that could be a good try out for the X-Pro2. But yes, the X-T1 was really a nightmare to use when I went birding specifically for in flights moment, then again, I took a jewelry hammer while trying to nail down a railroad track, figuratively speaking. Anyway, I will be expecting a lot from the X-T2, let's see what the end of Q2, early Q3 will bring us.
  16. On top of my head I would say Go to the setup menu - Frame number and select "Renew" ? You might want to double check that from the manual tho.
  17. What about a non camera bag like the Fossil Wagner Mens City Bag ? I posted that content over the favorite camera bag thread but I can repost it here for the sake of convenience, this what I am able to carry in the bag on regular basis: - X-T1 - 27mm F2.8 - 35mm F1.4 - 18-135mm F3.5-5.6 - 3 batteries + Traveler friendly charger with micro USB cable - Small 5200 mah powerbank for extra need of juices - BlackRapid Metro strap - A pocket WiFi (turns 3g into WiFi for non 3G devices) - Nexus 7 2013 ed. - Kindle Paperwhite - 30cm x 30cm micro fiber cleaning cloth - Lens cleaning kit (cloth, brush, small bottle of cleaning liquid) - Couple of pens - A small 20L foldable bag for just in case I would need to do groceries I stole some inner padding from my Vanguard Uprise 33 bag at the bottom of the bag just in case it would fall on the bottom and used the Fuji cloth lens to avoid too much issues with the lenses bumping into each other in the bag while traveling. As you can see, I can fit quite a lot in the bag that is more than enough for a day of trip. For the size, it's not that big at all, 25cm x 6 x 28cm.
  18. The MacBook Air was also severely under power compared to others of the same screen size, Apple clearly decided to go with something as thin as possible but clearly sacrifices had to be made at some places, ie. the CPU was down clocked, RAM was soldered and usage of 1.8" SSD drives. They didn't really made something new, they just put together pieces that were already existing everywhere but was of no usage of the general market. As for the cameras, it might be worth reminding that the Fuji X-Pro2 and X-T2 are both weather sealed, that means, as much things outside of it, which also means that things can not easily go out either. That's also one of the reason super strong bodies like the Nikon D3/4/5 all have eternal WiFi connectivity as the signals would get jammed by the body alloy already if the antenna was internal. There is also the price of the material, Appel is able to make things that cost outrageous amount of money and relatively safely get away with it. Fuji will not be able to pull a feat like that. Try to imagine this "Hey guys, we got the X-T2 with exactly the same form factor as the predecessor and still be able to film at 4k with no heating issues, but the camera body would cost above 2k$ now." Would you still be interest in buying such a camera while you have quite decent FF camera for that price ? Nikon did that with their D500 but there is a clear performance increase between their low-mid end of the FF bodies and their new APS-C camera. The X-Pro2 is already pushing for it at that 1.7k$ body only and while it got some traction going from ppl that have the previous model but did not jumped at the X-T1, I am really not certain that most of the current X-T1 users are finding their current camera to be below competition in IQ that would justify the new X-T2 just for the 4k video, 8 MP and an AF stick.
  19. The body size/sensor ratio is much bigger on the smaller sensor cameras than compared to the Fuji's APS-C sensor bodies, the GH4 is almost the size of a Nikon D5500, the GX8 is about the size of the X-Pro1. Both have smaller sensor while having the same body size as Fuji cameras if not larger, that allows more space to dissipate the heat from the video. Just have a look at the size increase we got from the X-Pro1 to the X-Pro2 bodies, it has been told several times that the X-Pro2 is actually 4k video capable, but due to the body size, it's not well designed against sensor heating issues. And the X-Pro2 is already the size of the X-T1, while the older X-Pro1 was a slightly larger X-E2, give or take a bit here and there. By just guesstimating the size increase from X-Pro1 to X-Pro2, we can safely assume the X-T2 would be at least 10-15% large than the X-T1, that is nowhere near being negligible in my book. If my income would be increased by the same margin, there a whole new world of possibility suddenly open to me.
  20. There is a whole thread around just for the Samyang 12mm lens, from what I could see, if you can nail the focus, the lens is plenty sharp where it needs to be. But as a frequent legacy lens user, streets and manual focus is an acquired skill, your first few shots are doing to be softer than with an AF lens for pretty obvious reasons. You can partially simulate the situation by going into MF mode on the camera and have fun with it from a week or so to get a better idea as on how it will be with the 12mm lens. Now, if after a week, you think you can live without the AF for the wide angle lens, may I also suggest you to also buy the XF 27 F2.8 lens ? It can be found second hand at less than 300$ and very frequently at around 250$. The lens is small enough to be kept in a jean pocket and I find the field of view relatively good for streets. Considering its size, you can very easily carry it with you and swap lenses for when you want/need the AF.
  21. I blame this part on that silly 4k video feature that less than 15% of users are going to use but we will have to cope with the size increase >.>
  22. Dare I to assume it will be a 1:1 macro lens ? 120mm equiv is a bit weird for a macro lens, maybe I am just used to the 105mm format...
  23. Double check the auto focus setting for the AFC mode, if it is set to release or if it is on focus ? The AFC mode is known to be quite a bit slower than AFS but it can follow a moving subject, the AFC is also expecting a moving subject too, so if you are static or if the subject is not moving enough, you will get out of focus picture on very regular basis. The AFC behavior is VERY different than on DSLR and can be counter intuitive if you aren't used to it or know how it works/behave.
  24. Why would Sony launch a MF body ? They are barely stabilizing their lenses for the FF at the moment, releasing another format with new lens would be very counter productive. Plus the sensor making department branched to become a company on its down, it is no longer tied to another business unit. So they can clearly produce MF sensors but not make any camera body/lenses for it. [Edited as I said Fuji on first sentence instead of Sony, apologies for confusion >.<]
  25. That's a much better picture than the previous one where the color banding was very visible
