Will a soft release button help me control bursts?
milandro replied to Chain's topic in Fuji X-T1 / Fuji X-T10
Despite never having had this “ need" of putting the camera on CL and shooting single shots, I just did try, and it works fine on my X-T1. I’ve made repeated attempts and never had a problem to control getting a single shot or more. I could do this at will. Of course you need to pay attention but it was not beyond my capabilities and despite my disability at handling fine objects ( I have had carpal tunnel syndrome, at the relative surgery to correct it on both hands). I don’t know if this has anything to do with the design of my extra-large Lolumina soft shutter release but it works. -
it could be done but the lens would cost more. I don’t really care for it.

If that is the case there will be an interesting double or even triple knock-on effect on the market. Introducing any new product makes people sell older products thus increasing the number of secondhand products on the market and lowering their secondhand price, introducing a cheaper new product will also make these even cheaper ( to be able to still be attractive and be sold) thus in the long run putting the new product under pressure. Best thing to do is wait after the introduction of the new cheaper product, there will be lots of older and replaced for no goo reason 35mm on the market and the new one will be probably, after a short period, when the novelty has warn out, be discounted to keep on selling more than the secondhand older ones. This is a gold mine for people studying marketing!

Frankly speaking I am not currently interested. I have shot in the past when I was an active pro, with a Contax 645 and a phase one back. I also have used, years ago, when I was working as a photographer of the Dutch Royal library, a Digital back 4" x 5” ( tri-pass) capable of 720Mb files. Nice though all of this was for professional use, I don’t think that I would ever need much more than the X-T1 is giving me at the moment. However, my first and foremost question would be.....how much?

New FAST Mirrorless LENSES for FUJI: Rokinon 21mmF1.4 & 50mmF1.2
milandro replied to Patrick FR's topic in Fuji X Lenses
What’s odd? Both lenses are of the most traditional focal length though perhaps not for APS-C. Obviously competitors, " in spe", of the 23mm and 56mm -
Complete Overview over the available and upcoming Fuji X-Mount lenses
milandro replied to quincy's topic in Fuji X Lenses
Nice to hear! Keep them coming soon the graph will become very crowded indeed! Obviously Samyang-Rokinon are directly attacking Fuji offering a 21 ( to compete with the 23mm) and a 50 ( to compete with the 56mm) both lenses are ( of course) in the same large aperture range. Bokeh toujours Bokeh! However, a reflection ( what a pun!) even if they would match the quality of Fuji glass or even slightly improve on it at that price point ( 21 $ 499 50 $ 549) one has to wonder whether anyone would buy a NEW non autofocus lens without any electric communication with the camera ( and internal software correction because we know that “ official” glass receives camera “ treatments” even in raw) instead of buying for just a little more a second hand 23 or a 56. -

Spending 3 times as much for starbusts with more rays is not everyone’s priority (besides, any lens would give bad results when shooting directly against the sun b.t.w.). But I suppose that it might be something to ponder about!

Unfortunately many sales people seem to think that if the assume a condescending and patronizing tone ( more so with ladies rather than gentlemen, even if they are a lady themselves!) this will give them a position of authority which then would facilitate the sales they are attempting to make. I usually walk out on them after informing their managers (if there is one) of the reason why I did that. Sometimes they are simply uninformed and do not know all the things that we are hoping they will be able to advise us upon because, let’s face it, you have concentrated on one thing alone which you might have been researching on line for weeks before wanting to buy anything, while they have to have the knowledge of the entire shop and deal with difficult customers. Some other times they are just a sanctimonious donkey or a parrot repeating what they have been told to say. Nevertheless, in this day and age, you can easily buy on line for less or the same price so if you are going to a shop you want them, at the very least, to add a reason why shopping there. This was and is one of my favorite themes in the Netherlands where all shops seem to, as by magic, sell the same products at the exact same price ( not a penny of difference) and they are not likely to give anything for free. So buying here or there makes no difference in product or price then, at the very least, you expect that they would compete on “ service” right? Anyway. Be vocal about any of this, if you feel that you have been treated wrongly, do say so, don’t just walk out and shop somewhere else or online, remind them that if they want to keep their business open they better offer you more than you would get buying on line, they better give you a reason to shop there. Service is ofte the only thing they have to offer since they don’t seem to be able or want to compete on price, if you don’t even get service why would you shop there?

I have revised my answer and would certainly recommend you to try a faster card -
well it always depends how you read a test but here the resolution charts of these people at lenstip. You may argue that the at f8 they both have the same balanced performance between center and edge but the Samyang resolves just a little bit more of lines at more open aperture but at the considerable cost of leaving the edge way less resolved than the center. Bu, in absolute terms and only at the center, Samyang at 2.8 and 4 beats the Zeiss hands down. Of course there is more than resolution alone but remember that we are talking of lenses with a vaste difference in price. http://www.lenstip.com/382.4-Lens_review-Carl_Zeiss_Touit_12_mm_f_2.8_Image_resolution.html Res charts of the Zeiss while these are the Resolution charts of the 12mm samyang http://www.lenstip.com/404.4-Lens_review-Samyang_12_mm_f_2.0_NCS_CS_Image_resolution.html

What would be comparable to the 56mm F1.2
milandro replied to Fran's topic in Adapting lenses to Fuji X
I meant that there is no other autofocus lens in or around the 56mm range which was autofocus, cheaper than the 56 and would have an aperture comparable to f1.2. These were the questions that you put. To these questions I answered that no, these was no other lens. If you are looking for an autofocus alternative to the 56mm then the only possible lenses are the 60mm macro 2.4 ( not as light efficient but way cheaper) or the Zeiss 50mm macro f 2.8. ( not as light efficient and not cheaper than the 56mm!) Otherwise, if you are considering non autofocus lenses you could try many adapted “ legacy” lenses featuring f1.2 or thereabouts. The 60mm macro is an excellent lens which I own and love, much cheaper than the 56 and widely available secondhand. -

Autofocus? In one word? No! At least... that is If you need the f1.2 thing otherwise try the humble and cheap (because many have shied away from it for no real good reason) 60mm f2.4 ( it is not as slow as they say!) -
Samyang (or their many incarnations) have great lenses ( I use the 8mm fisheye 2.8 and the 12mm f 2). Of course there is Zeiss too with their TOUIT 12mm, 32mm, 50mm macro. Then there are many other brands with special feature lenses ( Petzval, Lensbaby, Mitakon ) then there are all the “ legacy” lenses of the world with adapters........ True Fuji makes impressive glass but there is quite a choice out there.

Definitely, the 12mm performs way above its pricetag and even better than the Zeiss (at least from the tests that I’ve seen). Raws shot with fuji and zeiss lenses on fuji are seemingly corrected for light fall-off and some perspective and aberrations corrections too.

Is it worth it to trade in?
milandro replied to Fran's topic in Fuji X-E4 / Fuji X-E3 / Fuji X-E1 / Fuji X-E2 / Fuji X-E2s
How updated is your firmware? Are you sure that it is the latest possible version for both lenses and camera body? Hold the “ back" button pressed when you switch on the camera and it will tell you the version of the firmware that you have installed there. Check this list http://www.fujifilm.com/support/digital_cameras/software/fw_table.html The difference is there but not in the hardware but mainly in the software which is not supporting, at the moment, some of the improvements which Fuji ascribed to later models. -
well, it says a lot about the antireflection treatment of the filter (NOT)
-
the “ problem” with digital photography is that by comparing a lens that isn’t communicating with the camera and a lens which does you are not comparing the same quantities, but their rendition as allowed to be seen from the camera software, and this as true as raws as it is a jpegs In case someone was under the impression that a raw is a completely untouched by software version of the true image captured by the lens,... it is not. A certain amount of corrections will be made by the camera processor once it knows which lens in on the camera. In case of the Samyang or any adapted lens, de camera won’t correct for aberrations or light fall off as it might ( the use of a conditional is here de rigueur because very few people would know for sure what the camera corrects, what not, and how!).

Of course all your lenses will be compatible! It is not called X System but only for the new cameras, ( all all the others out there with this FX bayonet ) it covers all the fuji cameras with interchangeable lenses from the cheapest X-A1 to the newest X-T10. Whats not “ powerful” in you camera? The only practical difference between your camera and the X-T10 or X-T1 is the autofocus software ( which for all we know will be upgraded by Xmas) and a better EVF then there is this classic chrome thing which you can replicate anyway in software. The best thing that you can upgrade you camera with is waiting for Xmas and see what the Fuji-Santa will bring. To me, although I do own a X-T1 which made it possible while they are not “ yet” for you, the firmware upgrades were only minor although welcome but i was enjoying even my X-E1 when I had it ( even less “ powerful” than yours) and could still use it now and be happy if I had one. Don’t let this new form of the Freudian “ penis envy “ get to you! There is nothing not “ powerful” about your camera! You have all the power you need and I suspect even more than most of us can handle. If on the other hand, you might feel at such a loss of “ power”... whatever that might be... that you cannot bear this....then probably your best bet will be the X-T10 which, at the moment, sells for the same price as the X-E2 still is sold in the shops (at least in my neck of the woods that is) if they would sell them, which they are not, because all the buyers are not buying the “ old” model now. But you will be offered little by the shop or by other people ( see the X-E2’s for sale in the marketplace here on the forum) and you will lose money, while the best way not to lose money is not to spend it. Be well and be wise. -
enjoy!

I think that these days expectations might very well exceed what one can do with firmware updates. -

My card is a 95Mb/s and I have no complaints.......maybe you should consider a faster card. -

the speed between shots ( you know half full glass as opposed to half full). different card speed? different type of shutter? -

much, in this respect, depends on all sorts of settings, have you tried some other ones? -
certainly an unorthodox way to use this lens but you are right, a lot of your shots are not sharp. This is really surprising since this lens has huge depth of field, just focus on 1 meter and place your aperture between 8 and 11 and you should have plenty to play with? I don’t bother ever trying to focus. If I do this at all is only to get to focus even closer than with the (for me) standard setting. This example is focused closer to render the detail of the concrete and the leaves.
