  1. If I had been asked this question a month ago, I would have said buy the 10-24mm for the OIS and versatility. Last week I got the 16mm and my 10-24mm is already on eBay. That's not to say it was a bad lens, but the 16mm is simply that good. And given how low you can get the shutter speed on wider lenses and still get a quality image without the need for OIS, you don't really lose a whole lot by going with the 16mm if you have somewhat steady hands. Will I miss the 10-24mm every now and then while traveling? Yes. However, even if I didn't sell it I would be missing it in those situations because even for travel the 16mm took its place in my bag almost immediately. I was shooting most of my 10-24mm images at 10mm or 24mm, but my favorite images were almost exclusively coming from the 24mm side of that range, followed by the random shots that I would take in the middle from 15-19mm. Considering that I already have the 23mm, the choice to sell the 10-24mm was easy once I got the 16mm. That being said, if you don't have any lenses in the 10-24mm range except maybe the bottom end of one of your zooms and you've discovered that you like to shoot wide, I wouldn't necessarily try to talk you out of the 10-24mm because there is a big difference between the ultra-wide and wide ends of it and the cost of 2 Fuji primes (unless you go with the Samyang/Rokinon for one) to cover that is much larger.
  2. I'd also try setting the sharpness in the settings to a +1 value and see if that helps if it's just slightly soft. I'm using the 50mm f1.8 on my x-e1 as well and that's what I ended up doing. Here are some examples Portland-15 by dacalac, on Flickr Portland-50 by dacalac, on Flickr
  3. XF100-400 to be announced on January 15 for about $/€1,800 (Anonmyous Source) More here: http://www.fujirumors.com/xf100-400-to-be-announced-on-january-15-for-about-e1800-anonmyous-source/
  4. Hm, my Fuji 18-55mm needs about 360 degrees from infinite to short distance, while my Nikon AF 85mm only needs 90 degrees. But I remember that many people complained that the AF versions of the Nikon lenses have a too short way compared to the manual focus lenses. The Fuji behaves a bit slow at both the near and the far end where it takes some turning until the distance indicator in the EVF starts moving. I also find it a bit confusing that the distance indicator always moves in small jumps regardless how slowly I turn the focus ring. But I could never observe that the sharpness jumps so I think it is only the distance indicator in the EVF. What I really miss is that there are no stops at either end and sometimes I am missing distance labels on the lens tube and a mark on the focus ring. And if they are already at it they could add labeled stops for the aperture ring also on zooms. So I do not need a new type of lens but just that they make properly what they already claim to do: lenses that can be used in an all automatic mode and in a traditional way. First edit 2015-12-01 With the Fuji 56/1.2 I could see that the sharpness also jumps when I carefully turn the focus ring. This also matches with the sound from the autofocus motor and the vibrations that I feel. Obviously due to the bigger depth of field caused by the open aperture of 4 I did not notice it on 18-55. So, no smooth manual focus with Fuji lenses.
  5. There is not one original fuji made product which isn’t way more expensive than a no logo counterpart. I mean even the modestly priced long ocular at €15 is several times the price of a Chinese no name part for another brand. I suppose that people don’t realize that buying a product made by a world wide company which has a large organization and spends considerable amounts of money in promotion, advertising and management has a cost which wildly exceeds the cost price of the item bought and that ultimately we, the customers, pay for all of that. Did you ever consider the perfume industry when the liquid and the bottle cost almost nothing compared to the selling price? Frankly speaking I am much more puzzled by why would the cost of some independent accessory makers be so incredibly high compared to their unknown counterparts. Why does a lens completely manual and a copy of an ancient design so, not even anything innovative, made by a small company cost an exorbitant amount of money while another company produces a way more advanced and technological new designa t half the price?
  6. What I don't understand is the price of the official Fuji metal hood for the XF16mm. Metal aftermarket hoods typically cost around £15 (English money). The hood Fuji sell for the 16 costs £64. What is it made of - gold or something? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  7. There are so many more options with the 10-24 over the 16 (although the 16 is a fantastic lens). I'm just not a prime guy... I recently took a trip to Boston and Maine. It was my first outing with the 10-24. I also took the 27 and the 18-135. Prior to the trip I was expecting that I would be using the 18-135 for 80% of my shots because of it's large zoom range (and good image quality). Boy was I wrong! I took over 75% of the shots with the 10-24. I only used the 18-135 for longer reach. The shot stats showed that the larger percentage of my shots were in the 14-24 range (21-35 equivalent), but oddly enough, the single most focal length used at 10 (15 equivalent). I had lots at the 24 (35 equivalent) length, but that's understandable because I simply chose to use the lens that was on the camera (10-24) at it's longest length instead of swapping out to the 18-135 for maybe only a little more reach. The 10-24 is a truly outstanding lens, and so is the 18-135. One thing that seems to hold true regardless. Pick a lens, stick with it, and learn to "see the world" through the eyes of that lens. You'll worry less about "which lens do I need for this shot" and enjoy your trip more. If I was taking a trip today and could take only one lens, it would be the 18-135 simply because it has more range than the 10-24. However, when I take both lenses, the 10-24 is the one on the camera when I start out, and then I only switch to the 18-135 when I need the extra reach. Here's a link to my flickr album of the shots: https://www.flickr.c...157658417469231
  8. That's crazy, I know. But imagine Fuji release the X-Pro2 with an EVF only, no OVF. Would you buy it ? If so, what would in your opinion make the EVF-only X-Pro2 a "pro" camera, in particular compared to an X-T2 or an X-E3 ? Else, would you buy an X-Pro2 with the same viewfinder as the X-Pro1 or do you think an improved OVF is compulsory ? How should it be improved ? As we know, the current X-Pro1 viewfinder has some limitations (which can be part of its appeal). For example it doesn't cover the whole range of Fuji lenses. It is obstructed by many recently released bigger lenses. It has no continuous zoom mechanism. It doesn't have the highest magnification. So let's consider these possible solutions : either Fuji completely drops the OVF, or they keep it as it is, or they improve it. How would you feel if they chose each of these options ?
