I have no idea why people are so focused on the 10-24 weight.  Lets keep it in perspective here, its only 5 grams more than the XF56 prime.
If you can carry around a XF56 on the front of your camera and not blink, surely you can carry something that is 5 grams more.  No?

please elaborate on what constitutes an "expert" lens in your mind.   Do you mean, its a lens that is intended for a specific kind of use where as the zoom is more versatile?

if I didn't know that was a lighthouse from the first photo, you could mess with someone and say the second shot was a spaceship in outer space traveling to the next galaxy.      Cool shots.

Milandro,I agree with you. Consider that the x-t1 has been on the market for over a year now. Almost 1.5. Yet Fuji has felt it has only needed to discount it by $100 for the body. Who else has this kind of success? As time goes on they get better internal cost for each unit shipped. This means the profit margin continues to increase on the X-t1. Why in the world would they want to minimize return on investment at this point if it is selling so well that they have not felt they needed to introduce something to succeed it or dip the price any further to increase sales?

I'm sure they are working on the successor, but they will take their time and keep making it better internally until they feel the x-t1 is no longer competitive through SW upgrades and profit margins have dropped too far thru price elasticity.

    Hi,

When I bought my first Fuji X body, I used a perfectly mint Canon FD lens range.
Little by little, I bought my X lenses.
Honestly, there is no comparison there.
I was disappointed by the FD lenses IQ on Fuji X body, or surprisingly happy with the X lens quality.
For a while, I expected to find a good 400 Canon FD. I eventually found some pictures in the Internet made by this lens on a X-Pro 1 and... I decided to wait for the 100-400 X, whatever the necessary time to wait for it.
Quality, focus, etc... No way, I don't use any vintage lens anymore on my X body.

    Regards.

    Hi Andrew,

    You are not alone.

Here is a quote from the following review.
"The handling of the X-T10 could either be it’s most winning feature, or it’s biggest failing. Subjectivity comes into play, but shooting style will also matter. To sum up, the X-T10 isn’t particularly well built for marathon shooting sessions. It’s a camera you keep slung around your shoulder, neck or wrist for hours on end, grabbing pics here and there. This camera is wonderfully small, but it’s so small, you will probably have a hard time acquiring a grip that’s comfortable for an extended period of time, unless you are a toddler. I’m not kidding, I have relatively small hands, but even my wife at 5 feet and change with even smaller hands found the X-T1 more pleasant to hold immediately. The X-T10 isn’t bad, but it won’t fit like a glove the same way the X-T1 does for many people."
    http://www.fujivsfuji.com/fujifilm-xt10-review/

I find most of the grip on Fuji bodies too small compared to DSLRs also. Fuji realizes this and this is why they make additional optional grips for most all of their cameras.  Its no accident, its a profit making opportunity.

I have both an X-E1 and X-T1. Even those were a little too small for me and have the additional grip on both. So I just budget in and additional $100+ for all the Fuji bodies when  considering buying one for myself or my spouse.
Adding the grip to X-E1, made it about the same grip as the X-T1 without any optional grip. It is still not enough, but better than nothing.  Adding  the standard optional grip to the X-T1 made it made it much better than the X-E1 w/ grip.   I can't imagine getting an X-T10 without a grip. It would remind me too much of the OM-D EM-5 and EM-10. Completely unacceptable.   I was not impressed with the optional grips for those models.

Anyhow, this is one of the reasons that Fuji and Olympus make bigger camera and charge more.  i.e. X-T1 and OM-D EM-1.  Bigger body, more grip and more direct controls.

IMHO, buying a used X-T1 is a great suggestion by citral.  Also gives you more money to buy either the standard or large optional grips for it; if you choose.  If you are like me, then you may want to consider either the standard metal or large optional hand grip added to the stock XT-1.

My XF 27 sticks out about 5mm beyond the MHG-XT (normal size). Might be a different story with the MHG-XT large.

The N1 primarily gets used for outdoor sports. Best tool I have for that. Different horses for different courses. There is no perfect camera for everything. ;-)

There are no perfect cameras. Only ones which are best for YOUR specific tasks. I have 3 different systems which I use regularly; each one for different specific tasks. You will find opinion varies greatly based in what others are using their cameras for. I think YOU are on track to pick one that works best for YOU. Based on your use cases, I think the flaws of the older bodies is not all that important. Figure out if you can actually live with the fixed 23mm FL. That is key to your decision, IMHO.

You can do that now. Put on a standard zoom and tape it to the equiv focal length and go out and take the photos you like to take for a week straight. If you are happy with the results without moving the zoom, then get the fixed X100. If not then x-pro1 or x-e1. For your outdoor use case, the EVF mode will be best with wider FLs that are outside the "normal" range. As cheap as X-pro1 is the X-E1 is even cheaper.

Then you don't want to put any filter on that lens. It's a decent optic as it is, but it's not the most flawless lens out there and with the pixel pitch of the Fuji cameras, any additional glass you put on the front will either soften the image or increase glare and ghosting, depending on the nature of the filter. A simple coated clear protective filter will do the least damage—Hoya, B+W and Tiffen all make good ones—but even that is going to degrade the lens somewhat. It's not physically possible to add more glass to the front and maintain the same image quality. Simply keeping the lens hood on does fully protect the front element from knocks by the simple act of physically blocking anything from touching it, and it won't decrease image quality at all. (Or in fact can help, in the case of preventing glare and flare.) If you want to keep the image quality the same, that really is the only thing that will do it.

I wouldn't put any filter on that lens. Leave the lens hood on and the front element will be protected from everything, unless you purposefully pour water down it.

    Clinton,
If I understand the OP, they are basically saying that new feature settings are getting buried away into menus without direct controls to switch back quickly and many of these things when enabled prevent other features from working right. In short, we have to keep messing with settings in the menus, back and forth depending on what we are shooting. Portraits, vs sports. Etc.

Seems like a fair observation to me. I think Fuji needs to spend more time on making things more intelligent and less complex. Like they did to eliminate the need to have a macro button.

It is relatively simple to introduce new complex features, compared to the complexity involved to make these new features simple for the end user to live with.

I suspect it's on someone's todo list, but was not a high enough priority to delay the released core features

I'd like to see the option to have different AF setting based on drive mode. I.e. FD and MS+ES when in S drive, FD off and ES off when in CH drive.

Excuses excuses. Its been happening for years now for both the rumors NEX-7 and X-PRO1 replacements.

Did Nikon delay it's recent D7200 because of rumored sensor ? Is Sony delaying the release of the m43 cameras which have had the same 16MP sensor for years now?

If the rumored A7000 and X-Pro2 products were a priority to Sony and Fuji, respectively, then they would have planned and released product based on current sensor availability.

Instead, in my opinion, the only thing the rumored A7000  and X-Pro2 have in common is they are rumored replacements for cameras which were released almost 3.5 years ago which are no longer a priority due to more successful product lines.

In short, don't hold your breath for either any time soon and expect more rumors, followed by more excuses.  Like the Nikon D300 replacement which was last released 6 years ago. Yet, there are still people waiting for it and claim that it is in the works.

My point is: what makes BSI at that pixel size special? I don't really see many benefits (but the price increase is probably dramatic)
fast readout? you don't necessarily need BSI for that. Most improvements I see with the A7R II are coming from improvements in the manufacturing process. Using copper instead of aluminum (as samsung already is). Don't know about Sonys process node - Samsung is at 65nm

About the manufacturer of the CFA. Fuji was producing sensors until they sold their fab to toshiba. Toshiba makes some really nice sensors (D7100/D7200), which compete (or at the moment even overthrow) with Sonys.
Panasonic sold to Tower Jazz, Aptina is now owned by ON Semi. There are also Chinese manufacturers. Others that need to be mentioned are CMOSIS, Renesas (where Nikon produced their sensor designs but the fab was probably bought by Sony), Omnivision and many others.

Btw. AMD is no manufacturer, they use Global Foundries. Some of the named sensor producers do the same thing (with TSMC and others)

Back to Sony holding back the sensor:
    http://www.reuters.com/article/2015/06/30/us-sony-issue-idUSKCN0PA0EG20150630

they want to raise 4 billion Dollars for sensor manufacturing. If you spend that money into new fabs and R&D you want to stay on top. And to do so, you need MANY customers. If Sony Device Solutions were to tell all those customers (the biggest one being Nikon) to wait 6 months so Sony Imaging [those are different parts of Sony!) can produce some exclusive cameras, those customers would probably leave Sony - and that (with just 4 billions invested) would be catastrophic. Sony (as a whole) would/should/and probably could not do that.

All the above is purely based on a speculation that Fuji might use the Sony A7000 sensor on the X-Pro 2. Fujifilm manager Takashi Ueno in his yesterday interview with Fujifilm blog, re-asserted the excellence of the X-Trans sensor and its perfect matching to the Fujinon lenses.
The excellence of the Fuji philosophy, vision and action that made it re-establish itself again as leader in an almost saturated market stands against the usage of the A7000 Sony sensor.
It is amazing how a rumour can establish itself as a truth built on solid ground, though it is only a speculation, maybe launched to ignite or activate circulation on the page.

I could not find anything on this online, so I'm wondering if anyone has had similar symptoms, if not, maybe it was a one off. No need for life coaching tips, thanks.
