  1. Wow! Beautiful! I love iR images! What lens(es) were you using? I’d also like to know more about the converted camera.
  2. Personally I don’t generally use profiles or presets, though on occasion I’ve tried them out, and sometimes have used them as a starting point, but that’s fairly rare. I shoot raw and have used some film sims from Fuji weekly, but maybe it’s my OCD that keeps me shooting mostly raw only then tweak each image individually. I tend to enjoy that process almost as much as taking the image. Kind of seeing each deserve its own attention. I do have a core approach (generally described above), then adjust based on what supports the composition. Sometimes color distracts, so I’ll desaturate or go full B/W, other times focus on the color balance. Not sure if that helps.
  3. The 18-55 and 50-300 lenses are also IOS, so it’s likely the in-lens image stabilization at work. The x-T20 doesn’t have IBIS.
  4. Editing is/was mainly pre-processing the raw files using DxO’s Pure Raw3, which automatically brings the processed image into Lightroom classic, I then crop the frame to best accentuate the sense of action. Then I’ll lightly touch up with dehaze, clarity, texture, followed by adjusting blacks, whites, and shadows to bring out detail if needed. That’s about it. The sensor in the X-T5 has far exceeded my expectations for color and IQ compared to what I was used to with my Canon gear (which has been sold off with the exception of two pieces). Panning with the X-T5 was even easier and more accurate than even the 5D mkIII I had been using before. The Viltrox was spot on without hunting whether I back button focused or used AF-C with subject detection/automobiles (which worked very well, but I went back to back button focusing when there was a tight pack of cars. Be careful with f/1.2 - on the Fuji camera, it’s an insanely shallow depth of field. You can easily be misled that the lens isn’t sharp focusing. The range of what’s in focus can be measures in inches/cm. Prep your camera for what your lighting is like, purposely target a shutter speed no faster than 1/320 depending on the car speeds and panning arc sweep (those cars were passing me at 160mph while 75 feet away), and adjust as needed. I keep my iso as low as possible and generally shoot at base 125 to maximize the dynamic range of the sensor. Remember to shoot ETTR, and compensate if it’s a bright day. It’s crazy how much detail is hidden in the shadows with this sensor.
  5. I would say the H-2s, with its stacked sensor, is going to be the most capable for AF among things, and the pixel count isn’t a hinderance for your video resolution output.
  6. Here you go. You can click on the photo details icon to see the exif. https://edwardpalisoc.smugmug.com/Motorsports/Sebring-2023/
  7. Aww jeeeez, you guys are making me blush! Thanks for the kind words.
  8. Sounds like you have an active film simulation set up.
  9. My wife studied in Seville for a year as part of an abroad program decades ago, and was a great tour guide 😛. Absolutely do the cathedral of Seville rooftop tour for access to views not available elsewhere (they are done is very small groups that don’t overlap with others), and get tickets to sagrada familia as early in advance as you can. The nativity side was the better side to do, especially for the tower access there.
  10. up until a few months ago, I was only using a canon 5D with large EF zooms. The stuff I have now with the x-t5 is veritably Lilliputian. I love it.
  11. I have the 18mm f1.4 WR LM R, which is pretty much the same size, and it’s on the camera 90% of the time. During my trip to Spain, I didn’t find it overly burdensome or conspicuous. The viltrox 75mm f1.2 on the other hand…… that was chunky.
  12. After my recent trip, I have to say the Loawa 9mm f/2.8 impressed me with the images it rendered. It had a “painterly” quality that I am liking.
  13. Thank you! Barcelona/Madrid/Seville were subject rich environments. I can only imagine what an actual competent photographer could do.
  14. So, when my wife and I decided to plan 7 months ago a trip to visit our daughter that was studying in Spain, it was the start of a long journey and introduction to Fuji. Up until then I was a Canon user, from the time I was a teenager. Fuji was never on my radar as a camera system I’d own. I didn’t want to lug around all my FF canon gear, even stripped down ( I had been using a 5D mkIII), and so asked a bunch of my photography friends what they recommended the X100V as a great travel camera. Sounded good to me, and the reviews looked good. I was willing to use a fixed lens for a trip, so I went to buy it. That’s when I discovered the x100V is rarer than a truthful politician, so searched out an alternate. I liked what I saw with the X100V, namely the super small size, and so I started looking at maybe the x-pro3. Well damn, that was as hard to find as the x100V! At this point I heard about the x-T5 coming out and I figured that I had a shot at getting that at least, seeing how hard it was to find a Fuji product. I got the X-T5 and was pretty stunned how small it was compared to my canon, and saw it was actually as small as my ancient canon a-1 I had as a teenager. I was also happy to see the dials and ergonomics was much much like the A-1 and that felt like putting on an old favorite pair of shoes. I was a bit concerned with using new equipment for a trip, but hey, YOLO. I had another trip before the one to Spain, and got to really use it at a race event and stress test the usability. I had also gotten the viltrox 75mm f/1.2 by that time and it was also a good time to test that lens for its ability to AF well. By now I was fairly comfortable with the camer, but the true raison d’etre for this journey was the Spain trip. I got back a few days ago and I have to say, the camera and entire ecosystem has brought back the pure passion for photography. The compactness of camera and lenses made the difference between a chore to take picture (which often results to just using a phone to take a picture) to always having the camera comfortably in hand and joyfully snapping away. I feel invigorated again to have a camera on hand. here are some of the pictures so far, and I’m still adding more. So many turned out well, far more than I would have thought. https://edwardpalisoc.smugmug.com/Places/Portfolio/ Be kind. 😝
  15. I’m totally on board with this and hope it’s as great and impressive as the 75mm f/1.2 has been. The 75mm is my favorite right behind the 18mm 1.4 LM WR. 27mm is such a great focal length, but as fantastic as the pancake has been for me, I’m left wanting at night for faster glass.
  16. I have found few things better for processing Fuji raw files than DxO Pure Raw3.
  17. Sure. Differentiates from the upper lines, not everyone needs 40mp and the large file sizes, and with the newer processor, can give much better AF and some room for similar features like newer film sims that it didn’t have before. The sensor was good, so if you’re looking for 26mp density why not use it. Hell it’s more than my Canon 5D mkIII.
  18. Normal for linear motor fuji lenses. This may make you feel better..... https://youtu.be/cXGkdmAdU70 or look at this, and head to 00:13

    X-T5 AF Lock

I use back button almost exclusively, and what you're after is how I implement it on my X-T5. I *DO* have the AF set to "MF" and not AF-S nor AF-C when doing so. I also have the shutter button decoupled, as well as pre-AF turned off, and AF+MF turned on.
  20. The speed is partially dependent on the receiving device, but mainly on the raspberry Pi and the usb protocol it supports. When building it, I happened to also have a pi4 handy. The pi4 supports usb3.1 while the pi zero 2 supports usb2. The pi4 is notably faster, but larger and is very power hungry. I can power the raspberry pi zero 2 off of a solar cell! I did a few tests and seem to be getting an I/o speed of 20-40mb/s vs the pi4 of about 60-80mb/s.
  21. Normal from my experience. I shot a 12 hour race last weekend, and it gets warm when used, especially in AF-C.
  22. Let’s see how this goes tomorrow…. So far it’s fairly painless. Fringer aperture ring works, and even though it’s manual focus, focus peaking seems to also highlight contrast edges. I’ll take images tomorrow weather permitting and see what 40mp gives me with this setup.
  23. If you already have the 50mm and need longer reach, I can’t say enough great things about the viltrox 75mm f1.2. Inexpensive in general (549USD), and given how extremely sharp it is from corner to corner even at 1.2, it’s a steal. It’s outstanding.
