  1. I read the posts to try to learn. When I do write something, I get little to no response because I don't know the technology. To get a response you have to use lots of initials. OVF and EVF are essential. "I was having tea with my EVF and I kicked the OVF out." "No! No! You are a fool. Only OVF takes tea." Equipment brag gets attention. "The only lens I use is a UT-1 made in Germany during the First World War." I guess I am a lurker. I stand back and try to figure things out (and do a lot of google searching) so I can take good photos.
  2. Thank you. I just got back from seeing The Great Wall and The Forbidden City. The wind chill factor was minus 12 degrees, but my XT-1 did very well. I just took the 35 lens and it was beautiful. I did just turn the camera off and on.
  3. I'm very much an amateur photographer, new to my Fujifilm XT-1, and I have a question. I travel a lot and when I'm out I leave my camera on to be ready for quick shots. After a while the camera goes off, which is good. But when I want to take the next shot, it takes a while to get the camera to come back on. Is there a trick to this? What am I doing wrong?
  4. Go for it! If you don't like it -- which I can't imagine -- you can always sell it again.
  5. This is the 18-135 lens set at 18, no hood.
  6. I must have accidently turned to C. I wish I could put you in a bottle and carry you in my camera bag. Thank you so very, very much!!!
  7. Whoever you are, I love you! Thank you. It worked. Now if I could only fix the other 2 problems that have started as soon as I got out of the US. The 18-135 lens makes round corners at 18. And the focus assist button quit working. But thank you for the level!!!
  8. Done that a zillion times. Thank you.
  9. It's the one that came with the camera. I wiggled it, pushed it, but still no level on the LCD. You'd think that if I put it on LCD only the level would appear, but it doesn't.
  10. Thank you! Mechanical shutter worked. I got a flash. But I have pushed the view mode button a hundred times, changed the level in the menu at every push, trying to get the level back on the screen, but no luck. This is very kind of you to help with this simple problem.
  11. I know that most of you are professionals, but I am not, so I'm hoping someone will help me out with what I think might be simple problems. First of all, I'm on a cruise ship at the beginning of a 4-month trip so I don't have access to a lot of help. I have an XT-1, update 4.2, that I can't get to go into flash mode. I have the EF-X8 and EF-X20. I've consulted the manual and Phillips' Complete Guide. The camera is not on silent mode, but the flash won't come on. What am I doing wrong? While I was trying to get this working I did what I swore I'd never do again: I pushed the view mode button. As always, disaster. The green level went into the eye sensor and I can't get it to go back to the LCD screen. Is there some trick I'm missing? Sorry for not knowing enough to get into the OVF, EVF war, but I would like to take some photos. Thanks to anyone who replies.
  12. I bought a linen-covered insert for socks at the Container Store and put it in an antique Bible box. I open the lid and all my lenses are standing upright and I can take what I need. I bought some freezer containers at Bed, Bath and Beyond that have lids on them and the little things go inside. Everything fits in the wooden box. My cameras are on a bookcase where I can see them. They are too beautiful to hide. Inside a cabinet, I set up a battery charging station. I keep batteries in labeled bamboo drawer dividers that are made for kitchen gadgets. I invested in a Fogg bag that is so pretty I just leave it out. In about 10 steps I can grab bag, lenses, camera of choice, fresh batteries, and be out the door. (Or just take the X100T and leave everything else behind.)
  13. I hope they show this lens next weekend at the PhotoPlus show here in NewYork. Hope it comes out before the end of the year. I'm going to go see tigers in India and I don't think they'll come close enough to use my dear 10-24 lens.
  14. Welcome! I'm new too. I have fewer cameras but I'm a lens fiend. Today I'm going to ComicCon with my X100t and XT-1 with the 10-24 lens. I do macro photography and I travel a lot and shoot anything. Jude
  15. Citral, as a medieval historian, I love your photo!
  16. This winter I went around the world with a Nikon Df and 6 fabulous lenses. At the end I was so tired of lugging my kit that I used my cute little X100s. I got great photos. I took a snap from the far side of the bus, through a window, across a person, to a faraway woman crossing a bridge. It was so clear that I cropped it to just the woman on the bridge and it was great. I haven't used my Nikon since.
  17. Thank you!!!! Not all of us are professional photographers who run every picture through a complicated software program. Some of us just like to take photos that come out good in spite of us.
  18. Thank both of you very much. Last year I went on a safari in Kenya. I had a Nikon Df and a 150-600 lens. I got great photos but I am a 5' tall woman so you can imagine the comments I got. The ship docked in NY at 11 and at 11:30 I was at B&H. I bought the XT-1 and a couple of lenses. I loved it so much that I now have 3 Fuji cameras and 11 lenses. I am ready for next winter's trip!!
  19. Next March I am going to be in Bagan in Myanmar and I'll be in a hot air balloon taking photos of the temples below. I am an amateur and new to Fuji. I would appreciate any advice on how to go about shooting from a balloon. Lenses, settings, anything. Thank you.
  20. Has anyone else received an email from favorkiss in the Sudan asking for a private talk as he has something to tell me? I'm not about to open it.
  21. azmmount, I read your post, saw your pictures, and liked them so much that I bought the lens off eBay. I live in New York so yesterday I went to B&H and bought an adapter. One of the men behind the counter told me a lot about the lens, said it was excellent quality. I took it home, shot a few, and all of you are right. I love macro! Thank you for your post.
  22. I truly love lenses. If I get paid, I go down the road to B&H and buy something. But I also travel a long trips. After the first month, you're ready to ditch everything. I have the XT-1, XE-2, and the cute little X-100s. I think you should take the XT-1, the 18-135 and the 27 pancake lens. You can shoot everything with those 2. I recommend the pancake because it receives less attention than a big lens. I've been in places where the people glower so much that I keep the camera around my shoulder. And they stare at long lenses in a greedy way. The pancake causes less attention. That said, the 10-24 is lovely. Great for inside places that are tight. Temples and interiors show up well. As for a bag, get something that is waterproof and looks cheap.
