  1. well Meikon has also a case for the X-M1 ( I suppose it fits the X-A1 or 2 too since they are supposed to be identical outside) which is made for the 16-50 ( still don’t really understand the choice of zooms in scuba situation) the price is the same but the camera is WAY more affordable. The XA-2 and the new 16-50mm have increased close focus capacity which might be of some use ( it is probably possible to fit these cases with different lenses too but I am not sure) http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Meikon-Mcoplus-Underwater-Waterproof-Camera-Housing-Case-for-Fuji-Fujifilm-X-M1-XM1-16-50mm-Lens/32300036674.html
  2. I don’t know whether I am a saint ... I’d rather suspect that I’m not... in time I too will deliver my sarcasm and the occasional spewing on vinegar, reveal my likes and dislikes. The only important thing is to do it thinking that none of this is very important for anyone else out there. In other words I will try to remember to keep this real and have a large bag at hand containing pinches of salt ( which are best kept for their wisdom content and not being rubbed in someone else’s wounds!) and remember that there are real problems out there worth be angry about but I am afraid the merits of lenses and cameras ain’t in that league! ... I own two zoom lenses ( 10-24mm & 50-230mm) and 3 fixed focal length lenses ( 8mm fisheye, 35mm and 60mm macro) Both zooms were bought because I wanted at least two lenses in that focal range and those lenses were either not available or having 7 lenses in my bag would have been way more complicated ( let alone expensive!) to administrate than having 5 ( which for me already requires a large bag because of my dislike of layering lenses in compartments on on top of another). I suppose we all have different reasons to do what we do and no one has to justify his or her choices in front of the Fuji grand jury for the great majority of us this is fun and games and even if it is someone’s livelihood all you ever have to do if you noticed that you have bought the wrong lens for your wants or needs is to go out and buy another one. No capital problem, as I see it. My largest kit of 35mm analog cameras and lenses contained no zooms whatsoever ( and a few lenses that I hardly ever used!). I had 15, 24, 35, 50, 85, 200, 300 ( the last two were really underused) and two bodies.
  3. The news by Fujifilm France that a firmware update for the X-E2 has brought X-E2 owner’s expectations to be very high. I can see from many comments ( and the bitter replies if one dares suggest otherwise) that among the various Fujifilm owners, there is this sense that “ they” at Fuji, owe them an “ upgrade” which would bring this camera to be virtually the same as the just released X-T10. This sense of entitlement is the product of the idea that the “ kaizen” is a samurai obligation to serve the Fuji client whereas it might have been a simple instrument with a fancy Japanese name to define a marketing strategy. Some have argued that they would be two different cameras but, from where I stand, I cannot see how the fact that one looks like a rangefinder camera (but isn’t) and the other one ( with the bump on the top looking like a prism) would be in the Fuji reflex look-alike ( but isn’t) category. I can see the slight ( but yes people might find that essential) different in looks but I don’t see the difference in market segment. Where I live the Fujifilm X-E2 body costs NOW €699 and the X-T10 costs..............€699! So they occupy the exact market segment with the difference that the X-E2 is the older of the two cameras. At this point in time Fujifilm is pushing the X-T10 and will have to give the marketing of this camera a certain amount of advantages ( well, for a couple of months the X-T10 will have some newer and better software than the flagship too) in order to jumpstart sales ( which are going very well indeed or so I am told). It is not a dilemma that I am faced with but if I imagine a client in the shop with his hands on a new X-E2 and a new X-T1, today, which camera do you thing that this buyer would buy? And if you are Fuji would you give the client the same software for two cameras taking the same place in the same market segment or would you differentiate them? in time (a short time) we will see special offers on the X-E2 and by the Photokina October 2016 maybe something else will replace the X-E2 ( or maybe as someone suggested before the XE series will come to its demise). It might very well be that, under pressure, they will release some updating for the X-E2 but even then, if you were the client mentioned before standing in the shop, which of the cameras would you buy? Yesterday’s camera or today’s? These are of course, just thoughts. I don’t hate the X-E2 and its owners, I might be wrong. It only strikes me that you can apply two types of thinking here, the wishful one and the logical one. The expression “ Wishful thinking" in a oxymoron.
  4. well the people who use an X-10-20-30 would appreciate a better and bigger sensor. And guess what? This would be exactly what you call an abomination!
  5. you mean the fact that one is instantaneously able to be in a theater or at concert ( a Keith Jarrett’s concert comes to mind) and you are shooting without ANY sound whatsoever doesn’t look like a huge advantage to you? How about been asked to shoot pictures while an artist is recording and you are in the same room ( that’s when the noise of the lens which includes the focussing or the aperture opening and closing) might be a problem and when the fixed lenses cameras with an electronic shutter have an even bigger advantage! By the way, stealth also implies to turn off the little ( green or in other cameras red) light which bother artists just as much as hearing “ click” when in absolute silence. The only “ problem is when the subject moves in the same direction of any shutter ( this is also the same with a mechanical curtain shutter or mechanical focal plane shutter). The image gets longer if the subject moves the same direction of the shutter and shorter if it moves against it. Any such shutter works as a sort of fast scanner. The most famous picture showing something like that is J.H. Lartigue’s car ( new cameras featuring the same problem, give similar effects)
  6. the lens hood shouldn’t wobble
  7. well, perhaps a visit to the shop or an email to Fuji might return you with a new “ shield”
  8. Old or new are all relative concepts. 3 years old is a very long digital time. By next photokina October 2016 what looks “ new”-ish now will be old by then.
  9. Yes, until the day they announce the new model. This is not a matter of whether or not this will happen, it is only a matter of when this will happen. My prediction is that come the photokina 2016 the X-E2 will be replaced.
  10. At some stage improvements for any past cameras have to stop. If this wouldn’t be the case, even if new models would entice people to sell their older models the newcomers to the system will find more and more secondhand but upgradable cameras which would prevent them to buy a new camera creating only cost for Fuji ( keeping the secondhand market happy) and no revenue. No company can afford to produce a model which stays “ up to date” forever.
  11. yes, but more often than not the cap falls on the floor and not necessarily in your bag.
  12. yes, it is but again, aside for the aperture, what makes this lens similar to a AF and dialoguing to the camera lens as the Fuji would be?
  13. So apparently now the wishes of some Fuji scuba photographers have been granted and they might buy a X-T1 waterproof case at a very affordable price. By the way, If I were to use my camera during a sandstorm that’s where it would be! Despite the “ sealing” of any camera such a case has great features even above water! http://www.amazon.com/Underwater-Waterproof-Housing-Fujifilm-18-55mm/dp/B00UCVT1H0 http://hk-meikon.en.alibaba.com/product/60185872411-800991145/Professional_Meikon_40M_130ft_waterproof_camera_housing_for_Fujifilm_X_T1_18_55mm.html http://meikon.hk/index.php/en/products/underwater-housings/for-fujifilm/fujifilm-x-m1-40m-130ft-meikon-underwater-camera-housing-16-50mm-lens-110-detail It appears to have a range to 40m. which for most applications will be perfect but it also appears to have been made for the 18-55mm zoom, which is a choice that I hope they reform at some stage. because the 18-55 is NOT a WR lens. I think that it would be better to use this case with a WR wideangle ( such as the 16mm) so that is a little water should make its way into the casing there would be some chances for a WR camera and a WR lens to not being permanently damaged .
  14. despite my wife thinking the contrary, I am not unreasonable
  15. come the photokina 2016 we will probably see new (in)comers and new (out)goers
  16. I don’t disagree. I accept both stances as valid and worthy.
  17. XTC no point in splitting hairs here. Last time I checked almost all the dots were on the i’s Some people showed a preference for one or the other. Some people would prefer zooms for their own reasons such as for example covering with two lenses a wide range of focal lengths and travel light, some others would prefer primes for their ( though marginal at this point and with the sensors that we have) IQ.
  18. A lot of people would find it a great idea on paper but, given the probable cost, in the end not too many would buy it.
  19. it answers subsequent points made by others. image IQ is great with all lenses zoom or primes.
  20. they will give what their marketing department told them to give.
  21. well, I am sure there would be people out there who ( on grounds that we might not agree about) don’t, but my point was that people like different things and to each his own.
  22. what is the lens shield? Do you mean the lens hood? If so there might be a little play but it is difficult to say, at a distance, how much play would be acceptable and how much wouldn’t. I would tend to say that a good bayonet shouldn’t have any play to speak of My complaint about the lens hood is in fact the lens cap. In this lens you have a choice of two depending on whether you use the lens hood ( which I suppose is what you call “ shield” ) or not. The rubber cap which fits over the lens hood tends to be come off the lens when you take the lens or the camera with te lens on it out the bag. Very awkward. So despite my liking of the lens hood looks and function I have replaced it with one of these. With this I can use the other pinch-lens cap provided with the lens.
