If the x-pro 2 and x-t2 were both released tomorrow...
milandro replied to benjaminthomson's topic in General Discussion
We shall see, unless some of us is in “ the know” these are only conjectures. We are very far away from the next Photokina at the end of September 2016. Then, maybe, we will see the new X-T but I do believe that they will try to extract as much market possible for the present top model for which they have created a new space in the market. Making comparison to the Iphone is, in my not so humble opinion, not realistic. Fuji is a great system but it hardly features on the market as the “ obscure object of desire “ and is not the kind of status symbol which the Iphone has been for years and years now. -

after this huge software upgrade for the X-T1 and having introduced the X-T10? Unlikely. -

Yes, but the poll is about a different predicament. For a number of reasons I am a X-T1 user but as I said If I had had the choice of a camera with equal performance and a more retro look I would have gone for that one instead. When I bought the X-T1 the X-Pro 1 and all the other X cameras clearly weren’t in the same league as the X-T 1 and further developments of the system confirmed that Fuji were to support the X-T 1 more than any other camera for some time to come . But the poll is essentially about a different situation one that has not happened yet ( and maybe will never happen) and that is the co-existence of two cameras one looking like the X-pro and the other looking like the X-T with both the exact same characteristics and price. In that case, I am convinced that the X-Pro would if not equal at least close the gap with the X-T, because, I am convinced, that the typical Fuji client is a person not insensitive to the retro looks. ( well as I posted my answer Iko contradicted it right away, so I might be wrong but I am not so quite sure that that would be the majority of the market, the retro camera have a inconspicuous quality that the reflex-look of the X-T lacks) -
let me clear this, again, my original post was not meant to comment on this forum but specifically on the reviews published (or republished by Scoop.it) on various blogs. I specifically referred, in particular, to comparative reviews the spirit of which is only putting down fuji cameras especially if and when said reviewers are insisting on the same things over and over again. My point is that one can have an opinion, albeit negative, on anything but come clean with it don’t hide behind false pretenses. I was not referring in anyway shape and form to this or any other forum.

Salvaging Waterdamaged X-e2 Camera + 23mm Lens
milandro replied to ding's topic in General Discussion
Unfortunately, with hindsight it is easy to talk, after things have gone wrong, I realize that it is too easy to pontificate about what one should have done and I really don’t like to make this sound as a criticism at all. Perhaps you will now consider buying a plexiglass hard case ( I don’t even know if there are any out there for Fuji cameras!?) rather than a soft bag and next scuba adventure would feature a less expensive set up as in a cheap XM-1 or XA-1 body and a lens such as the 18 (which is now been sold at very low price) The likelihood of something going wrong there offers just a little bit better odds and should anything go wrong the loss won’t be as serious for your pockets as the one that you are facing now ( is there any travel insurance claim possible in this case? ). -
Hello, Marcello, the fish-eye effect of the 8mm is rather different from the one of other fisheye lenses and if you don’t include too many straight lines at the edges of the frame you can actually have a very wide shot which won’t look necessarily a fisheye one. I will show what I mean with a couple of shots

I personally don’t really care much for any OVF and prefer the EVF and if both cameras were to offer exact te same features aside from that one I would definitely go for the X-T2. I have to admit that from a purely aesthetic perspective I like the look of the X-Pro better but when I bought my X-T1 ( after owning a X-E1 and having used the XM-1 for a a few weeks in which the XE-1 was gone for repairs) the quality of its EVF was, for me, one of the decise factore in upgrading, although I did prefer the looks of the other cameras. -
My favorite travel photo backpack
milandro replied to photog's topic in Bags, Half Cases & Straps for Fuji X
I think this has to be one of the best and certainly most convenient backpack that I’ve ever seen. If one wants a backpack, one can’t go wrong with this one. It is very clear that we all have different needs, likes and dislikes, about how we like to carry our equipment around. The backpack thing is one that I’ve never really grew to understand or want but I suppose that that is because I’ve never done any trekking where you need to carry things around ( not only a camera and lenses) for extended periods of time and wanting to have your hands as free as possible to do all the things one needs to do while trekking and not shooting pictures. I suppose that if you are doing this in some impervious location you certainly need your hands to be free and a bag hanging on one side wouldn’t be the best way to go around and about while crossing a narrow mountain pass or in thick forest or while riding a horse or any other animal. In my case ( nice pun ) I haven’t ever had the need ( or wanted) to do any of that and I have always assumed that a backpack wouldn’t give me quick or easy access to the equipment since, I suppose, to use the content of the backpack you need to stop, take your back-pack off your shoulders, open the flap ( what if it rains or there is a lot of wind?) select the camera and possibly change the lens according to the needs or whims of the moment. Also, but I wrote that on the more specific camera bag thread, using one of those compact messenger bags, unless a body and a couple of lenses would suffice, you need to layer your equipment and chances would be ( Murphy’s law and all of that...) that if you have a camera with one lens on it, the lens that you need is the one that you chose to put in the lower of the two layered compartments, so before you know it you are fiddling with a body and two or three lenses while the shot is gone. But I am a slow photographer anyway and little of what I do requires a state of permanent readiness. Of course, I understand that there would be plenty of illustrious colleagues here and elsewhere objecting to my objections and having great and proven reasons to use either a backpack or a small messenger bag with lenses in two layers. I am not disputing any of this and by all means please continue doing so. I am not arguing but simply wondering. -
I want the XF 10-24... is it worth selling the 18mm and 14mm for it?
milandro replied to Patrick FR's topic in Fuji X Lenses
If OP can afford keeping the 18mm and 14mm lenses, he might decide to buy the 10-24mm and then see if he will ever need to keep the duplicate focals contained in the focal range of the zoom. I doubt that that would make any sense to keep all three but it will be a matter of a couple of months to reveal whether you are using them or not. Many of us have a tendency to hoarding and problems in separating ourselves from things that we “ have” but simply don’t use. I am about to have to move and I will have to move again after one year. So I am facing two ordeals. I have had to look long and hard about many things that I have kept with out using them for years. In fact my entering the Fuji X system was caused by the fact that I finally sold all sorts of analog photographic equipment which I had kept for years and years mostly without using any of it. -
Salvaging Waterdamaged X-e2 Camera + 23mm Lens
milandro replied to ding's topic in General Discussion
Even limiting the efforts to the lens, the expense, in terms of labor costs, of completely disassemble all its optical parts, clean them without damaging the coatings, then removing all the electrical components of a lens like the various electric motors of the lens and replacing them, would be a daunting and a time and money consuming task, way more complex than making a new lens and with the risk to damage the lens elements by simply handling them after the ordeal that they have been through. I suppose that it could be worth a try but probably you might add insult to injury in the form of shipping charges. Unless Fuji will extend you a superior act of mercy ( they have done so in the past, or at leas so I’ve read) none of this could come cheap of be covered by any guarantee. Anyway, if you don’t ask... so give it a shot. -
Thanks, but I have never been in the habit to read car reviews. Cheers.

milandro replied to Patrick FR's topic in Fuji X Lenses
We all make or own informed or impulsive choices. OP came with the specific question about buying the 10-24mm and selling his lenses. Obviously he thinks he needs a wider lens that he already has. The 10-24 will give him all he has already and a lot more. I just gave him, and anyone else, food for thought and 3 pictures of mine, a 10-24mm owner and user -

I am not sure that the two primes would have done better and the only way to know would be shoot the same picture with the two lenses and then see the results. Lacking that type of comparison I can only tell that no one of the tre pics that I’ve published strikes me as qualitatively inferior to anything. Using lenses in real life is not the same as testing them, most of use the the first rather than the latter. -
yes, all true. Many good points to reflect upon. Although my original post wasn’t written to analyze the reasons why hostility develops on internet or within fora. I have been around other fora long enough to have been subject to large amounts of that and have withstood most of it. But I never came across the phenomenon of the apparently innocent review which reveals itself to have been written with mean spirited intent only after you have been enticed to read it. This must have something to do with the fact that the other fora I have been involved with weren’t much about new products for sale and indeed the possibility that commercial motives could be behind at least some of these passive aggressive reviews and reviewers reveal. Again, I am not at all surprised or even opposed to an review such as this ( the t hides a link) where the title tells me immediately the tone of the article. I never mind other opinions even if against mine and respect people who call a spade a spade

as for using it creatively for its qualities as a wide-agle this is at approximately 18mm (f9 1/160) -

the 10-24mm is one of the best lenses that I’ve ever used and the first one that I would grab in many occasions. Granted I use it mostly on the widest of the setting but it is very good at 24 too. Here a shot with the lens at 24mm (f8 1/90) -
This is indeed a good interpretation, which explains the blog & youtube mania of these times and which doesn't only involve photographic products. Everybody is jumping on the bandwagon of the blogging & reviewing and some are even capable of making a decent living out of this, so generating controversy is as good a method as any to generate traffic and ultimately revenue. A few days ago there was a radio program that I was listening while driving, about the most popular blogs and youtube channels and what kind of income that generates and I was simply astounded to see that people could make that kind of money in such a way but even more to hear that some folks simply tell the world what they do all day ( and we aren’t talking of people doing any special things either!) and they get enough followers to generate a regular and sufficient monthly income for which some other folks actually have to work!

If I only had to have one wide-angle It would probably be the Zeiss 12mm if I felt the need to use the autofocus or alternatively the Samyang 12 mm if I was on a budget and didn’t care for the autofocus. When I shot 35mm on film I loved the 15mm. The 8mm is NOT a jack of all trades and only really masters a limited amount of shots but if you let yourself use it too much it will rapidly take over the look of your pictures and bore you and everyone else to death. Besides, you will learn to appreciate its value better once you have explored the limits of the 12 and know what the 12 cannot give you and why you need an 8 for those shots that the 12 cannot make. But even then it will be a challenge to use the lens appropriately and to not let it dominate you. Many years ago (1987) I had an assignment with my business partner to shoot pics for a brochure of the Achille Lauro ( the famous ship that had been hijacked few years before) and to do so I went from Italy to South Africa on a beautiful 15 days trip ( it was a transfer trip for the ship to spend the winter season in an other hemisphere rather than a cruise). The cameras with which we were shooting were Pentax 6 x 7 cm. Normally one of my favorite wide-angle lenses on that camera would have been the 45mm but we had managed to acquire a 35mm fisheye ( with a similar angle as the 8mm !). So we were happily shooting away but my business partner had to disembark in Tenerife ( and I went all the way to Capetown) because there was some other work to be be done back home. He took the film that we had shot until them with him and went back to Milan which was my base at the time. Few days after I get a telex ( some might not even know what that was, since It no longer exist in most countries) saying : “ Good shots, use less fisheye! “. I never for got that!

When (?) will we have a Fujifilm X-pro-2 “ relic” version?
milandro replied to milandro's topic in General Discussion
Actually I had a 60th year anniversary Rolleiflex 2.8 GX for many years. I bought it new in a shop for the same price as the normal one and used it for my work. It was a real camera, not much different from the ordinary model, aside for the reptile leather and the minimal gold trimmings, but had noting stupid done to it such as the idiotic wear marks on a new camera! -
they are different enough, but how necessary to own both would depends on what kind of use you would make of them. I bought the 10-24mm exactly to cover all bases but I find myself more often than not shooting at 10 or at 24, sometimes to correct some perspective , a would shoot between 12 and 14mm.
