  1. I understand the reservations against the use of an all purpose zoom. I too have never been a zoom person and when I shot analog cameras I never had a zoom for any substantial length of time because I never really liked them. However as I age, I don’t want to carry around as much as I used to, also because it is no longer my profession to do so. I used to have two bodies + 15, 24, 35, 50, 85, 200mm ( and a 300 that I’ve hardly ever used). Now I have one camera body and the panoply of lenses that I’ve described above ^ and maybe I’ll get a second camera body (but I am thinking about it long and hard about that) to avoid changing lenses all that often. But I could go around with one lens alone and indeed I have done so with the 35mm f1.4 that I’ve sold when I bought the 18-55. If I buy a new body it will be a X-E2 and it will be complemented by a 35mm f2.
  2. The “ ethics” of photographic objectivity and reality representation argument is very poorly made and I would suggest the reading of the works of Roland Barthes or Susan Sontag all within the general querelle about whether it is possible to achieve, at all, camera objectivity. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Truth_claim_(photography) The “ camera never lies”statement is a lie ! Photographic objectivity is not only a myth but a dangerous one used by those who will abuse this erroneous perception to prove things because they are on camera. As Susan Sontag wrote, a photograph is as much an interpretation of reality as a drawing is, but, my words, unlike a drawing, it cam be used to support a lie because some viewer could assume the it is the absolute truth. Having said this on the philosophical aspect. The technical aspect is also ridiculous.
  3. Torturro, you are absolutely right! I don’t see why one photographer ( or more as we’ve seen in this thread) shouldn’t want to use this camera in the way he or she prefers, the question, as I see it, is whether the camera can do what one wants or not . Again this is not something that I normally do, I prefer shooting in sigle shots. But I am not an action photographer by any stretch of imagination. I have especially attempted for the purpose of this original query, to see if I could control the amount of shots in continuous mode and I did succeed, and that happened despite my reduced finger top dexterity due to the consequences of carpal tunnel syndrome. The only thing that makes my camera different from any other X-T1 has to be, in this respect, the extra large, soft release button. This is way bigger than a normal one is and I think the key to the X-T1 operating this way. Am I absolutely sure that this is it? No. But a Lolumina would cost very little and you soon will find out.
  4. I was going to say the same thing. I have a 18-55 and after owning the 10-24 for over a year I sold it in favor of a 12mm Samyang which is a great companion to the 18-55. I would also recommend the 50-230mm because it is such a great lens for very little money. I own it and love it. I also own the samyang 8mm f2.8 fisheye ( not strictly speaking a necessary lens but an incredible performer ) and the 60mm macro which you might use for a number of purposes but, again, won’t be, strictly speaking, necessary.
  5. Even in the times of analog photography the resolving power of a lens was just as good as the one of the film which tended to be a weaker link that the lens ( in most cases). When I worked for the Dutch Royal library, doing many thing photographic analog and digital, we were doing a lot of microfilms (which contrary to what most people would normally think were shot generally in 35mm and only very rarely in 16mm or but I’ve never do that, microfiches. This is done like that because analog black and white reproduction meets conservation standards better than digital because one can guarantee the negatives, kept in a refrigerated vault, for 500 years ( they have been tested with a simulation obviously since photography doesn’t exist that long!) . This is a problem that digital photography has yet to address. Raw or Tiff or Jpegs depend from the ability of computers to open a file , we simply don’t know whether in 100, 250, 500,1000 years computers will still be able to open the files we produce now ( but this is another discussion) The first test of any roll that you shot was to test the negative the way it was developed. Developing was tested every day several times a day to see if by developing you weren’t nullifying all your work by producing a negative that wasn’t able to meet the international conservation and reproduction standards byt having a film with inadequate resolving power. Digital photography is not different. Raw is as close as possible to a film that has yet to be developed. As you develop it and at every stage of further additions to anything you do you lose resolution.
  6. different strokes for different people but nobody can please everybody all the time. The only burst that one should control are bursts of anger when you discover that you cannot control the continuos shooting of your camera.
  7. Options are a good thing but there is a point in which you start competing with yourself when you take two customers who would have bought a Fuji camera already but by offering yet another model you push one towards one model and one towards another. It is a complicated thing but the most stupid thing that a company can do is to become their own competitors.
  8. The failing or detaching of the adhesive rubber coating seems to be a common occurrence yet not all X-T1 owners are lamenting the rubber wearing out, falling off and the bulging of the doors. Whatever it is, Fuji is not, by and large, refusing to address the problem. These things happen. Every company has to deal with problems and companies shouldn’t be judged because of the freaky occurrence of a rubber skin ( a material which they bought in good faith) falling off but they should be judged based on the way they deal with a problem. So far they came up trumps whenever a member has taken the proper initiative to get in touch with the head office. The local repair labs, I have to say, don’t have an equally positive attitude and sometimes, as we have seen, they have said no and then the head office said yes. Perhaps Fuji should keep the reins a little tighter and teach their repair people that gaining a customer is difficult an losing one is VERY easy!
  9. How nice to hear that , it was a bit odd to welcome a new member with 3 negative posts about his fuji. I couldn’t help to wonder if you disliked it so much what were you doing with it. You will forgive me if that looked odd.
  10. a bent door will surely not make the camera water resistant. but you’ve written 3 negative posts one after another ( the first three on this forum) about your camera, is there anything you like about it at all? http://www.fuji-x-forum.com/topic/1127-will-a-soft-release-button-help-me-control-bursts/?p=15424 http://www.fuji-x-forum.com/topic/996-fuji-x-t1-rubber-surface/?p=15420 Concentrate on the positive and the guarantee and the friendly advise of others will take care of the negatives. In the end this might not be the camera for you, there are so many other cameras. Good Luck. Enjoy. Life is too short for complaints and problems will happen.
  11. with a large soft release button such as the Lolumina, as written above, this function it’s perfectly feasible , but not all cameras can possibly satisfy everyone in doing everything, seen your negative comments on your first post maybe Fuji is not the camera for you? Just a thought. One needs to find some goodness in the stuff that one uses, if you don’t then maybe there is another camera that would satisfy you needs better. Life is to short to keep up with negative feelings. If you hold this and other things against this camera why staying with this system? If on the other hand you are prepared to live with some shortcomings ( such as the rubberized surface coming off) then maybe you can enjoy the system for what it is. Try the lolumina, costs very little for what it does. The extra large one. Good luck.
  12. welcome to the Forum, I am impressed with you first post full of positivity You are not the only one, as said above http://www.fuji-x-fo...accessory-door/ http://www.fuji-x-fo...rubber-surface/ http://www.fuji-x-fo...skin-of-x-pro1/ the rubber surfaces have had a tough life and are being replaced in most cases without an itch , good luck with it, you are going to have your guaranteed satisfaction, I believe. Get in touch with your local Fuji repair shop or, should they not be responsive, with the head office in Tokyo. https://contact.fuji...1477.1432290617
  13. I suppose they were given a try to see how to best position themselves on the mirrorless market. By now they have a better perception of what work and what doesn’t. I think we are not likely to see anymore red or blue cameras though
  14. No need to justify your choice, which I understand, especially because two of your are using the cameras, I’ve just used the example to illustrate a kit which, although possible, would be unlikely.
  15. They don’t offer that kit, yet in the Netherlands. They did before in Germany. We’ll see if they will. May very well be. The kit I thought to discuss is the one with a 23 + 27mm. Of course someone could come up with an even less usual kit (though we have seen people like Cug owning the two) with a 35mm 1.4. and a 35mm f2. Everything is possible. One thing is for sure there is movement in the market. Some Lenses and camera bodies have to go, some are gone already. Where are all those Red and Blue and White XA-1 bodies? One used to see them offered at very low prices and now thy might be still around but the bulk of the lot has disappeared. I don’t see too many X-A2 sold anyway. The same will happen with the other discontinued bodies X-E1 and X pro1. Who knows if the 18mm and the 27mm and the older 35 f1.4 ( in that particular version and not an updated one) will be kept in production or not.
  16. Welcome on the forum. I agree, the 18-55 will cover most bases for the time being, time will tell you want to buy. Maybe you are a wideangle person, maybe you are a portrait person or maybe both. Just don’t go buying things before you really need them. On the other hand having previous experience to capitalize upon, you probably already know what you want. There is plenty to read here and to ponder upon.
  17. I did say 18mm + 27mm would be my choice if I were to buy a kit with the x pro 1 of the ones available
  18. right note for myself, no chips while on the job!
  19. I like that too, but I wouldn’t to replicate focal lenses, on the other hand we’ve heard of people wanting to own both the 35 f1.4 and the f2. It takes all sorts.
  20. Yes, amd many, like me, have done this for moths now but clearly any movement will come after the introduction of the X pro 2
  21. Because a lot of these kits are put together by the shops rather than the factory. Kits by the factory for example, tend to be sold is special boxes containing the whole of the kit. Sometimes shops sell things separately like my 18-55mm which came from a kit and was sold in a “ white box” (with guarantee anyway). I have found today some better deals in the NL like a X pro 1 at €499 ( in Belgium they had a shop with a €399 offer and THAT wouldhave been tough to resist however they sell you this deal... but they put you on a waiting list because they really don’t have the cameras, yet ) and a X-E2 at €599 ( still too dear for me to make me want to go out and rush into buying one). However, if, in the coming days, following the introduction of the X Pro 2 the X-E2 will be also discounted, I probably will buy one together with the new 35mm. Ideally I’d like to find a shop that will put together this kind of “ kit” in order to stimulate the sales of the X-E2. But as long as the majority of shops sell it at the same price of the X-T10, they won’t be moving them. A friend working in the shop where I buy most of my gear ( the shop has changed name but it has stayed there for years and years) told me that ever since they had the X-T10 for sale they hadn’t sold any X-E2.
  22. How lucky. Good for you. Not everyone is the same position though. I would hope that you might appreciate that.
  23. but you were charged BTW ( VAT) and handling through customs? Paypal has extended guarantee to 180 days https://www.paypal.com/webapps/mpp/paypal-safety-and-security
  24. Adding an EVF as an accessory to the camera will have its retro charm but what would be the point if you can buy a X-100t with the EVF and the OVF already? Adding an accessory will probably make the camera more expensive than the one with both EVF and OVF.
