  1. Then I think that I have now all the dynamic range that I need and again, if these minor things would be all that the generation jump has to offer, than I’ll either wait or stick to what I’ve got.
  2. well, there are many more people doing things live diving and adventure trips now that there were at that time, beside that camera had lots of “ normal" uses possible.
  3. Perhaps since I am not a gamer I wasn’t prepared to this. Perhaps I am just old fashioned and not used to these things. I had to think of this joke. Two thieves decide to go stealing some fruit in an orchard at night time. The farmer owner of the orchard has put there his donkey there to protect the fruit but they don’t know it and can’t see it because it’s pitch black. So they make a hole in the wall surrounding the orchard and as the first thieve peeps through the hole the donkey kicks him in the face. He retracts with the hands on his face, the other thieve asks : “ What is it?Why don’t you go in? “ and the first thieve answers : “ No, you go in first, I have to laugh about all of this! “ One thing is for sure, next time, I’ll let others go in first.
  4. still missing the equivalent of the Nikonos (or even better the RS!) , that was an underwater (or a camera for the rain forest!) what a camera! I don’t understand why no one is going that direction. The concept would be very suited to Fuji!
  5. and a merry xmas to you too as I said, as humanly possible for you. Here all is warm and jolly with friends all round! The cooking is taking some time but we are gonna have fun.
  6. Suit yourself. I’ve made my case and provided, what I believe to be, evidence for the people here to see and make up their mind on what’s what and how’s how. What happened happened and stays under everyone’s eyes to see and judge for themselves. As said under other circumstances, one can bring any manner of wise, crazy, equines, canuk or otherwise, to the water but cannot make them drink. Have a Xmas as nice as humanly possible for you. Faber est suae quisque fortunae
  7. both fuji JP and USA declarations were public, fujirumors merely reported them. They were no “ rumors”. Obviously love is blind and admits no criticism, close your eyes and dream on if you so wish, reason is another thing. I’ve made my case.
  8. Why not using a laptop with a solid state memory ? It’s not much bigger or heavier than a decent tablet and would be including wi-fi capability to directly store all the pics. I’ve never lost any pics on card that you can download each evening ( if you are really obsessing you can put one copy on the laptop and one on a solids tate disk or stick). But one can really make his life as difficult and complicate and one wishes these days, and if you are a victim of obsessive compulsive disorders ( we all have some of this) in this uncertain times.
  9. Yes, Weather resistant, but being and staying on the safe side... waterproof?........ None. If you experiment otherwise, share. This guy, Alexandru Magurean, claims that his camera and lens worked after being dipped in water. There is no evidence, aside what he said (but didn’t show) that this was the case. Don’t repeat! @https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3m35MqUersU
  10. I wouldn’t jump on the bandwagon this early! Whatever it is that they are putting in the X Pro 2 will be featuring in the X-T2 later on. Unless one is completely new to the system one would be better served by waiting than rushing into buying the newest camera which, in all probability, given the track record, will also be more expensive at first that It would be once the X-T2 comes on the scene. As I’ve said. I doubt, unless there will be a truly revolutionary camera, that I would be buying into generation 2 if it will all come down to a larger pixel count and a faster and more precise autofocus for moving object ( plus some goodies in the form of film simulation). If that is all that generation 2 has to offer then I will wait for generation 3 or leave things as they are for the rest of my foreseeable photographic future. Many years ago I had a friend who kept on calling me and saying : “ We have to find a system to get richer!”, “ Ok!”, I said, “ but what will we be doing when we are richer? Will we buy a larger house? But we have a house. Will we buy a bigger car? But we have a car. In other words we have already everything we need. What will we be doing with 24 million pixels that we cannot do now? Print larger prints? My lab promises 135cm x 90 with 12Mp. Large enough for me already and with 16Mp. even more than that. I shoot mostly things that aren’t moving too fast and, judging from the fact that most of us show girlfriends or spouses , grandkids, landscapes et similia, do mostly the same. What would I do with a faster autofocus? Know that I can shoot pictures that I don’t shoot? Maybe better to buy roses for one’s heart with the money that I’ll save!
  11. Fuji is not at all confused with their ideas about which camera they want to produce, they are precisely sticking to the product which has found the initial resonance among its clients. If nothing else they are pursuing a design and a strategy that is the exact same which gave them the success they have received until now. Why change any of that? A camera with a retro look and feel, with sufficient modern technology and great, lens range, while in a market segment that makes it affordable for many users around the world, mostly people who started using cameras when they were still analog and looking like the fuji are looking now, and different from all the other products in the competition. If we would look at the demographics of the average Fuji user we would find that more than 50% are people between 40 and 70 years of age, with many years of photographic experience, higher education and medium-high income. These, I am, sure is the kind of customer to which the majority of the X range, for sure in their upper segment, are targeted to. Leica has a marketing department too and they have chosen to cover a different market segment. Fuji has a considerable marketing competence which coupled to the feedback from their sellers and distributors is telling them exactly what the majority of Fuji customers want from Fuji. This marketing vision put them on the market with cameras that featured their own particular vision on what a camera should look like and how it should operate. They are doing exactly that. Can they please everyone? Can anyone please everyone? No! So there will always be people that want Fuji to give them what Leica or Sony or Nikon does, but for less money, obviously otherwise they would have bought one of those. It is not going to happen, because although they might get those clients on board, they will lose others who want Fuji to be Fuji and not a cheaper Leica or a Sony or Nikon. If Fuji would do that I would be the first to not have any interest in that kind of camera. You bought the Leica? More power to you. I wouldn’t be interested in such camera to the point that if I would have won one at a contest ( not that I generally partake to such things but I occasionally do) I would have sold it to buy a Fuji. I guess that some folks have to be interested in that kind of thing. So stick with it and be happy. Play the lottery so maybe you’ll have the money to buy the camera of your dreams. Me? I have it already.
  12. it’s half a Nikon!
  13. This is not as complex as in a OS, with interaction and permutations with other programs which might be showing unpredictable and unforeseen results, not knowing which program each user has, this is a minor firmware update showing a bug in one of the main updated functions, a bug which caused Fuji USA to declare the they were gonna halt the release of the firmware. But then disappointment arose pushing Fuji Japan to release this anyway, even though they knew there were problems. Memories are short lived. let me refresh them. 11 December New Fuji X-T1 FW 4.20 Coming on DECEMBER 17!!! … KAIZEN: “For Longer Camera Lifespan” 14 December FujiRumors sources say: No Fujifilm X-T1 Firmware 4.20 on December 17 (even though Fuji USA said it will come)! 15 December Good News (hopefully ) – BUG FIXED! Fuji X-T1 Firmware might be ready for X-mas (and probably the 17th) 17 December IT’S HERE! Fujifilm X-T1 Firmware 4.20 available for Download NOW! 22 December Fuji X-T1 firmware 4.20 faulty. Fix will come end of January. You can now “downgrade” to 4.21! It is not the nature of the bug which is of concern ( fortunately it was a minor and rare occurrence ), I am not making a big thing of that. What is of concern is the sequence of events above. Announcing this new firmware to create interest, USA Fuji halting the release just days before because they discovered bugs , Fuji Japan decision to pursue the release anyway the day after, Firmware released and the sudden discovery of firmware bugs which could impair the use of the camera under certain rare conditions. So the bug is not the problem, we know you can downgrade or not use continuos mode, that’s easy. The way they dealt with the problem is the problem. Yes they “ fixed it” but it shouldn’t have been there since they knew that problems were there on 14th of December! But they had committed to a release date and the PR cockup weighed more than the possible technical one. I like Fuji and I am a proud fuji owner but one has to call a spade a spade and a cockup a cockup. Saying that all is fine and dandy on account of your Fuji-love is a different thing. But love is blind. Thinking over things requires logic and maybe seeing the sequence of events would help to put some in between the clouds of love. For all we and they know it could have gone much worse. Fortunately it din’t. Happy Holidays.
  14. was it exercise or exorcise ?
  15. Something is FINALLY moving, the X-E2 body has been now discounted to €599 in the Netherlands, at long last now the older camera, compared to the X-T10, is now €100 cheaper. Not a massive discount and not yet any special offer with some of the lenses in a kit at an even more interesting discount but, it’s a start.
  16. Good, more left for us, people who actually enjoy a camera with dials and buttons. There are other cameras for other needs and wants. Knock yourself out and buy one of those. Variety is the spice of life.
  17. The fuji leather bag is a very nice bag too, not cheap or huge, but nice. Same for the compagnon bags, different sizes, very nice but pricey bags ( less than Ona though)
  18. well, it is one of this things that you didn’t know that you needed it until you get one.
  19. So this is a further bug? No raws when downgrading to 4.21 ? I didn’t downgrade because I don’t use AF-C and since they promised to fix the problem in a few days I didn’t bother to do anything. Yet, I did go out to shoot some pics (on the 4.20 firmware) yesterday. I shot Raw+ jpeg. The camera performed as usual the only thing was that, for reasons that weren’t and aren’t obvious to me, it created two folders and put some shots in one and some other shots in another. I might have been accidentally doing this myself but I didn’t mean to and frankly even if this were a bug or a malfunction it would be a very minor one for me. But being unable to shoot Raws would be a major problem for some. I am quite happy in most cases to use the jpegs straight off the camera but shoot raws all the same because there might be some rare cases which require a bit finer tuning and then I would revert to the raw or, for example, one shoots B&W and has the colour Raw should one change his mind about some shot, without having to change the settings. Maybe other people who have downgraded will care to comment on their ability or inability to use raws after installing the repair patch 4.21
  20. Hardly a diversity contest or a matter of religious affiliation (but I admit that it looks like that) but simply some self declared optical orthodox folks not wanting to see that lenses which weren’t 1:1 have been designed as macro at least from the ’50 of last century onwards. In this tradition the Fuji 60mm is a macro lens. Whilst I have no problem to accept that there are ALSO macro lenses with a reproduction ratio of 1:1, there are those who declare themselves the defenders of optical orthodoxy and cling to an absolute but arbitrary definition, even after have been given many examples of the contrary. I have a name for this movement. Optical radical integralists. have a happy new year, 1:1 ( and I don’t mean a lens)
  21. Billingham are nice bags, look nice and feel strong but I am not going to ever stand in water and dipping my bag in it so I doubt that that particular feature is a deal breaker for me. I am very happy with a bag made of leather outside (which I have waterproofed even better than it was already ) and with waterproof lining. The most that I would ever face is some heavy rain. Come to think of it, as a long time temba user in the past, at least from from 1980, I have used tembas under some pretty heavy rain and not a drop of water inside too. Yesterday ( sunshine) first day out with the small bag. It was a tight fit but I took the camera with the 18-55, 12mm samyang, and 50-230mm, in the end used only the 18-55mm and the bag performed as expected, Yet maybe next time I need the reduced kit, I will take only one extra lens and allocate a bit more space for the camera. I don’t like to wrestle things out of the bag.
  22. shoot raw+ whichever profile you want and keep playing with the menus as advised. Should the profiles chosen not please you, you can then always go back to the raw and take it from there.
  23. No gripes with Fuji other than this firmware thing cockup and the fact that they seem to have been able to convince all the Dutch physical shop dealers ( there is one on line shop claiming they are in the EU which is cheaper that the rest but they ship from China or Gibraltar so they are not a Dutch shop) to sell every single product at the exact same price in all the shops. Strange, very strange. I tried once to make a sales assistant see the incompatibility of this price uniformity with the requirements for business competition but he didn’t want to understand that if you have competition some should would have to offer a product at a lesser price otherwise why should I buy from them instead of someone else? No answer to that question ( privately in a phone call one person admitted to “ agreements” which if proven would be both illegal and severely punishable) Few days ago there was a shop Calumet.nl which had briefly listed the old X-E2 at €599 instead of the €699 ( same price as the X-T10) even before I was able to consider buying it, the price was put back where it belonged , at par with all the other shops. By the way, even there, that camera is listed but not in stock! But that, is a whole different saga!
  24. well, except the fact that KIA declares a fuel consumption which is in NO possible way achievable under normal conditions by any human driver... not even by following the on board computer for fuel saving! I’ve tried and failed. In the USA & Canada KIA buyers were returned a certain amount of money to compensate for the false advertising but this hasn’t happened in the EU anywhere. http://business.financialpost.com/news/transportation/fuel-consumption-error-leads-hyundai-kia-to-issue-credit-cards-to-compensate-canadian-customers http://www.autoblog.com/2012/11/02/hyundai-kia-admit-exaggerated-mileage-claims-will-compensate-o/ “ We are committed to compensating both current and past owners fairly for the change in their vehicle’s fuel-consumption rating... " Still trust KIA? You are a very trusty person! Did you get your compensation? I didn’t! How much petrol did I use more than they promised after driving my Kia for 60.000 Km? Recently people have taken to sue VW for their fraudulent software, there would be a disclaimer on that software agreement too but it won’t be enough to prevent enormous losses in money so the set aside 6.5 BILLIONS of € ( and won’t be enough) don’t trust too much anyone! http://www.cnbc.com/2015/10/22/emissions-scandal-volkswagen-may-have-to-set-aside-more-funds-if-sales-fall.html
