Toshiba has announced today severe losses and plans to reduce personnel and redirect future activities which will probably involve their exit from the consumer electronics and computer market. http://www.reuters.com/article/us-toshiba-restructuring-announcement-idUSKBN0U40IH20151221 http://www.reuters.com/article/us-toshiba-redundancies-idUSKBN0TX23920151214

It’s called creating mystery and interest ... rumors... the kind of stuff this site is based upon. We don’t know what exactly was handed out and by whom to whom, the front pics are clear and the others are blown up low resolution things. These things keep people interested and speculating. Did anyone see the “ be patient and then you will know everything “ button yet? It’s there!

so, despite your assurances of the contrary, about the firmware update for the X-E2, there will be a firmware update which will be the main point to call the new model S, there fore the update of the XE-2 will NOT be the same as in the X-E2S, right? Otherwise the X-E2 and the X-E2S will be the same camera. Which makes me think that the X-E2 upgrade will be a minor upgrade. I don’t know whether to be happy or not about this if that is the case. If the X-E2 upgrade will not be substantial all the X-E2 owners who are on the fence, waiting to see wether to hold on to their cameras or not, will probably decide to let the cameras go. In that case there will be many on the market for a very good price. Also, by the introduction of the new camera Fuji might lower the price of the old one. We shall see.

There are many such comparisons on line http://www.canonrumors.com/forum/index.php?topic=17975.0 http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=1428441 I don’t normally respond to threads asking for advise on one particular brand that I don’t own or have tried but I really have some points that I would like you to consider about using a sling tout court ( so not one of any particular brand) I really truly have my doubts on the use of these things! That’s when the generation gap reveals itself. I don’t understand side slings. They are trendy, flashy, hip, but they cause more damage to cameras that anything else out there. https://fstoppers.com/originals/why-insurance-could-have-saved-me-when-my-peak-design-strap-failed-59094 http://petapixel.com/2014/09/17/peak-design-strap-failures-causing-dropped-cameras-photographers/ https://www.reddit.com/r/photography/comments/3pl1fm/lets_talk_about_straps_because_mine_just_caused/ Are you sure that you want a sling to wear on the side, particularly for the situations that you describe with a kid moving about and you rapidly turning trying to grab the camera and smashing into an object like a street lamp or a fire hydrant to catch the pict and knocking your camera from your side? They look cool, I give you that, but a traditional front neck strap (though not cool) sets the camera in the best and safest position side slings or a holster would, for sure, cause me problems. These things put a lot of strain onto your camera, cameras are rubbed against jeans rivets and are knocked into doors or bump into objects and people while turning fast to react to a kid running into you or a person calling you. Beware! Good luck!

the urban landscape has always fascinated me with the shape of all manner of buildings or constructions left to themselves. Every major city in the world has some of these constructions and once, long long time ago, I started a project called Perpherial Titans which showed large and mostly industrial buildings in various state of decay and disrepair. Just a few days ago I went to a new quarter which is being developed around these three towering vats used long ago by the Amsterdam's wastewaters treatment plant.

that rangefinder makes the difference. Maybe the only difference but only time will tell.

Isn’t the same lens you spoke about here? I see the two posts were contemporary Patrick does this often.

not in the ballpark of what it could be.

just low resolution rather than out of focus...

you mean the dioptric correction wheel ( great addition!) or the joy stick?

Looks Nice , exactly as expected from the previous leaks. Will disappoint some and please some others. Variety is the spice of life.

words of wisdom, can we make of these words alone a sticky?

Can’t please everyone all the time if any brand would set out to do that, they would miserably fail. Better profile yourself and please the largest possible market segment that you can handle without creating conflicts within your customer’s base. Fuji owners have a clear preference for the way these cameras operate. Other cameras operate in a different way. They please other people. Unicuique suum

If you have ever used a case you know they are clumsy , always much too large and forever in the way, to say nothing of the forever present possible problem of water finding its way into the camera (they nowadays all have a sensor to tell you that there is water in the case, which if for the X-T1 won’t necessarily mean anything final and deadly but in many other cases it just sounds, at depth, a moment before your camera dies. Besides the Nikonos series was not only used under water, in fact it had lenses which were usable in both environments and some for outside water only. The Nikonos was a scuba and all weather sealed camera. Fire brigades were using it because the camera could be used under the heavy spray of the hydrants and also people who had gone for months on end into the rain forest knew that almost any camera and any lens will come out ruined by the experience, except a camera made to be used under water! Redmond O’Hanlon is a scientist, a writer and adventurer who has travelled extensively under these conditions. After his first trip ages ago, he learned that a normal camera wouldn’t take gently to that kind of thing for that long a time. So he started using a Nikonos Camera ( which he still uses to this day)

Things like camera model designations, which were decided at the time of the introduction of each of the past models, could have been changed by the successes or failures of past models. So, the X-E1 was at first followed by the more powerful and sophisticated X-E2 which would let us to suppose that past the X-E2 there will be a necessary progression into X-E3 , yet, rumors have it that they would chose for X-2S... we will know why that is when the time comes. The fact is that the X-E2 has been surpassed by the X-T10 ( which is less expensive and sophisticated than the X-T1 which makes impossible to progress, for that top model, past series 9... ) largely by way of software. We were told ages ago that “ soon” the X-E2 would have got some firmware upgrade but then rumors died down and sales too. Now, after months of that stalemate ( camera on the market at the same price of the newer and better X-T10 ) they have finally started to discount it ( at least where I am ) and now they are selling it at less than the X-T10. Yesterday I went to my favorite shop and asked if that had had any impact on sales and they said that nobody had noticed that yet. But my guess is that potential buyers (such as myself) are still holding on to their savings and waiting for any software update. Should this come and be unsatisfactory containing too little innovation, I will have to think long and hard whether I want a camera with reduced capabilities compared to a X-T10.

one not to be followed at any possible cost

a niche which at the moment has no one which fills it, so an open nice.

I am a person of simple taste and needs . Mind you, I remember when I just bought my first X camera ( X-E1) discussing its purchase during the intermission at community band practice. There was a visitor who kept on telling me that he didn’t understand why would one need a camera to take pictures when a telephone ( he said, showing me his Iphone) would give all you ever need. I told him that I owned a phone to phone, a photographic camera to shoot photographs (I don’t film), a digital recorder to record sounds and what I pretend to call music and a Tom-Tom to go round and about, because I like owning things that are made to perform a task. He looked at me bewildered as if I came from Mars. So, as much as I understand that a go-pro is the thing which most use to film and, dare I say, take pictures, I’d still use the proper thing for the proper task. Maybe you’ve seen this but there were at least two inventors who invented some weird contraptions to transform, one, the Iphone into a “ camera” ( when you can buy a camera to this better and with a smaller dimension) and the other a box which transforms the go pro into a “ mirrorless” look-alike. Weird!

Mal tempora currunt! A go pro is the action camera Iphone equivalent, not even remotely in the same ballpark as something like that! I don’t even have any 4K wishes, let alone demands.

3D printing is the new thing. I’ve shown you this start-up company above with lens hoods ( in need of some re-thinking methinks) but other folks have decided to put to good use their projects and here we have this company, Shapeways, which promises to realize for you any 3D printed accessory that you can think of but can’t buy because is not for sale. So here they have this focussing grips for cameras featuring (or not) some follow focus for video. For Fuji users they have a double lens cap ( which, if you really need this contraption, you can make yourself by simply glueing two cheap caps together) to mount two lenses in this weird way.

thrifty you know the joke about the thrifty guy? He loves coffe with two lumps of sugar but at home to save money he always takes coffee with one lump and outside, because sugar is free, always takes three lumps. But he really, really, really, would love two lumps in his coffee!

any other price movement in the EU that would make us think that something is moving with this camera? Now, today, 90% of the shops in the NL carry this camera at €599, all the same and simultaneously ( the strange forces of synchronized pricing... which they keep telling me is by mere and sheer chance, certainly not because they have an agreement of no competition among them... strange though that not even ONE shop offering it a €598, no, all “ competing” at exactly the same price... ) I think they are getting ready to discount this even further when the new firmware would be revealed ... which makes me think about the amount of firmware bliss that will be effused but we shall see.
