  1. London has many narrow streets where the 23mm will not be able to cut the mustard, unless one has, at least the wide angle adapter, I would never limit myself to that camera.
  2. if you don’t intend to buy or rent any other lens or camera I would keep the 50-140 on the X-T1 and have the other body swapping all the other lenses which you probably need ( 16-23-35) If it were me, next to the body with the 50-140 I would rent another X-T1 with a 16-55.

  6. well, yes, old lenses were often very heavy. In this respect the Pentacon 180mm f2.8 has to be one of the heaviest
  7. Interesting, I never knew! I was a photographer at the Dutch Royal Library at the Hague and there, just outside the library restaurant where I ate every day, on the wall there was the famous text. I have seen my fair share of handwritten texts and illuminations in my time there!
  8. I don’t know why they don’t do it, they must have good reasons for this. I suppose that if they could they would. On a side note. I have always been convinced that digital photography shows more the effects of motion blur than what analog photography ever did for me ( or at least I prefer to think so rather than accepting the fact that I am no longer holding the camera as firmly as I did when I was younger!). Nevertheless if once upon a time we could shoot with no stabilization of sort, so could we do that precise thing now. You might argue that we live in modern times and therefore we should have the benefit of technique but the same argument can be made against the use of legacy lenses.
  9. well, you see, even under these circumstances of Carthusian work one can let his spirit wander... The first ever piece of written Dutch language, that we know of to this day, was the beginning of a love song of the times ( 1100 C.E.) , they were written by a young Flemish monk working, in England, while painstakingly copying manuscripts in order to try his pen. “ Hebban olla vogala nestas hagunnan hinase hic anda thu, wat unbidan we nu? “ All the birds are nesting except you and me, what are we waiting for?” which, considering the fact he was a monk (in 1100 C.E. things concerning celibacy were a little more elastic in the church ... or perhaps not) was a rather extraordinary thought!

  12. WR in this case is absolutely not a luxury and especially if you are doing any trip out of the cities , perhaps into the jungle to do the mandatory visit to the temples. A friend of mine just came back from a one month long trip to Myanmar ( or perhaps better known under its former name of Burma). He used a X-T1 a 10-24mm, 18-55, 50-230mm. One of his problems was that the continuous changing of the lenses caused the sensor to get some dust which probably stuck because of the humid climate and he couldn’t get rid of them with non invasive methods. So, he came back with a pile of images most of which need retouching. He’s been working on that for the last month or so. With hindsight , he would have been better off with at least two bodies so that his lens changes would have been reduced to a minimum. If I were to tackle something like that I would certainly have 2 WR X-T1 bodies. and take with me the 16-55 WR on one body and the 50-140mm on the other and never change lenses just use one body when called for or the other. It would be maybe possible to rent the 16-55mm that you don’t have.

  15. These lenses, including Pentacon-Pentacor, are now all experiencing a revival. A couple of years ago you couldn’t give most of them away and now the secondhand market is full of them. Legends are being created especially in the “ bokeh” department, a word that didn’t even exist when these lenses were around. Even the looks are playing a role here. If you have a lens made in the ’50 or ’60 some would show a pattern of black, silver, colour finishes. These lenses, often defined as “ zebra finish” are being sold at premium prices. Among them you can find DDR lenses which came from Carl Zeiss Jena. Of course now the sellers put the accent on the name Carl Zeiss while at the time they were especially known as the “ other “ Zeiss factory. The DDR poor relation of the factory in the West.
  16. I beg to differ. The camera is different, you cannot tilt the EVF towards the subject in the first model. The XA2 is specifically marketed as a “ selfie” camera. Well they obviously wanted to differentiate the Pro from the E at the time they introduced these cameras and they had their good reasons to do so, the price which reflected some of the performances. I don’t live in Mr. Fuji’s head, so I can’t possibly know what they are going to do, but it is unlikely that they will abandon this model. A s for the entry level, this is experiencing serious problems at least where I am, they are simply not selling. Several serious camera shops over here don’t stock them.
  18. The Metz company is temporarily experiencing problems, read the links. The situation that I’ve explained to you might be the reason why there aren’t others selling anything on line. This Internet dealer might be in possession of some stock, which might have been bought before the company ceased their activities which have yet to be resumed at full speed. I cannot tell you to trust this person. If I were you I would wait. Good luck!
  19. There are many different versions of the Helios 58mm, some much better built than others. My first reflex camera was a Zenith E with a 44-2, with its almost circular aperture. Probably the most common of the Helios. Later versions, featuring automatic and manual aperture ( which cannot have as many blades since that would make it impossible to open and close quickly and precision) are generally better built and don’t show the generally oily blades of the earlier versions. The 44M, the last one that I have bought, is generally much better built that its forebears. Feels very solid and focussing is very much more precise. The 50mm Meyer-Optic Goerlitz f/1.8 is a completely different lens and also very different from the trioplan.
  20. yes, I am staying with the X-T1 but if, later on, and a t the price of a X-T10 ( which has been discounted €25 just few days ago... mysteriously and everywhere simultaneously in the whole country) in a year and a half or so, hen I might be rethinking my strategy. For the time being I am happy with what I have. I find plenty of relatively cheap thrills with the two adapters ( tilt and lens turbo). No need of spending a lot to keep me interested.

  22. So, in June, or so we are told, if all goes well, we will have a new X-T2. Fuji X-T2 coming in June (SRP) – POLL – Get the Fuji X-Pro2, wait for Fuji X-T2 or keep your current X- series camera? Whether to upgrade or not to this new generation, if you, like me, are coming from the X-T1, will make me think long and hard in the months to come. The main question would be the speculation or logical possibility that Fuji will introduce, a year or so after the introduction of Generation 2 of their flagships X-T1 and X pro 1, the successors of the X-T10 ( would this be called X-T20?) and the real successor to the X-E2 ( the X-E2S is just a way to repackage the X-E2 and make you shed some money) which would be, if logic has to play any role in the choice of a name , the X-E3. Both these cameras will have to feature this new 24Mp sensor and won’t be weather resistant as the X-T2 logically, would be! There would be other differences but I postulate that X-T1 : X-T2 = X-T10 : X-T20 Let me say that, if at the time that I bought the X-T1 there would have been the X-T10, I would have bought that one. So, next time around, I won’t be hasting myself into an early choice. I have a great camera already!
