X-pro2 launch, keep or sell your x-pro1?
milandro replied to drb's topic in Fuji X-Pro 1 / Fuji X-Pro 2 / Fuji X-Pro 3
exactly, I have always checked slides from 24 x36mm up to 8 x10” with a loupe ( by the way using anything more than 4 or 6 X only makes you see the grain but doesn’t show a better magnification to judge how sharp your picture is) besides I have done weekly tests with all manners of cameras and film when I was working at the Dutch Royal Library as photographer, they were carried out to insure compliance with the stringent conservation norms. The same system was a part of DAILY check ups for digital large format photography. You started the day with absolute calibration of every single aspect and repeated that every time you changed reproduction ratio. For comparison we compared analog with digita. We had scanning backs producing files of 720Mb. We also scanned slides taken with the same camera, with Imacon scanners and I’ve made many comparisons between digital and digitized analog. I am really not a stranger to testing and comparing digital with analog. One interesting thing was the use of Bosscreen focussing screens ( from small to large format) which, instead of being mat etched was made with a layer of beeswax put between two glasses, this way the mat surface had no “ grain” as it happens on mat etched glass. There you could really test your ability to focus. -
4th of February the new release scheduled. I’will install it, I can’t believe that they would get it wrong twice in a row

well, if I have to forget the video, which you have used as an illustrative way to show us what you meant, then I don’t know what you are talking about anymore. Obviously I am not the only one who thought the noise shown in the video was what you were talking about. Now you are saying to forget the video. You asked for opinions and my opinion is that that video shows nothing abnormal, noise or otherwise whatever it is shown there is normal... If you are talking of something else that isn't shown in the video and you want people to comment on that, then I am afraid that there is no other way for us to understand what you mean than you finding a way to explain it or display it. Let us know how the camera comes back from the “repair” ( this is, of course, assuming there is anything broken and needs to be repaired in the first place). Good luck. -
I am not sure why this behavior but I am thinking that it might have to do with the aperture not reaching the correct preset value ( but then again, if you always shoot fully open and you preset your preset at f2 the second ring shouldn’t move anyway). Anyway well done. Enjoy.

X-T10 & a small budget lens-line-up
milandro replied to wortfilter's topic in Newbie / Self Introduction
nice line up of lenses. I especially like the Agfa but I am not sure I understand the Minolta zoom, always very complicated to operate the zoom AND focus manually. I am not big at using adapted lenses ( but I have a few) but if and when I do I tend to stick to what these days are being called “ primes”. The 40mm Hexanon was one of the first pancakes of when I was young. I don’t really think that there is much intrinsic value to a pancake but they are on fashion. The Tamron SP 90mm macro was always a lens that I loved, great shape, size and performance. As for your future lenses, do no discard the 50-230mm without having tried it, read this. Good luck! http://www.robzeiglerphoto.com/blog-posts/2016-1-11/sibling-rivalry-the-underestimated-xc-50-230mm -
I wonder whether the doors and skin problems of the X-T1 have been addressed on this generation. We will live to see whether they have. It’s too early.

Witch camera and lens I should bring to London?
milandro replied to mano76's topic in General Discussion
I wonder why do they make and why do we buy so many lenses oh well...get out the rat race, ZEN power, buy one, do it all! -
cheers, have fun! I not sure that I understand what you mean by “ reversed stop marks”. If I am not mistaken, yours is like the one that I used to have, the 44-2 should look like this 109881d1322079953-helios-44-f2-problem-imgp4961.jpg If it doesn’t maybe someone opened the lens to clean it or oil it and then put the ring the wrong way up? I don’t even know if this is possible. This is a video on how to open and service the lens. @https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=001Nt6tl-UY The top is the one where you preset the aperture and then the other ring allows you to open to maximum aperture and then you close it to the value that you have chosen in the preset. If you fail to do turn that and you have chosen 4 but then you forget to actually close it to the preset value you are shooting at maximum aperture. As for the aperture value differing from the one of a more modern lens. I am not sure. My experience is that the automatic exposure of a camera tends to be thrown slightly off when you use manual, adapted, lenses and it can go either way, up, or down.

@darknj did you receive your Helios? How do you like it? True these are the dark days and the weather has been horrible lately, so, not the most conducive atmosphere to testing lenses.

op has the adapter now he needs to make his choice -
different kettle of fish, you are comparing a lens, the 12mm with no software assistance ( a lot happens in-camera and even for raws ), no autofocus, no automatic aperture to one with all these things. The 12 is a great lens but the 14 is also very good.

again, in low light any digital camera shows noise which appears as dots and grainy image. Any camera I have and have had has done that. Nothing that you have shown in that video above or in further descriptions is, in my eyes, anything out of the ordinary. I am not saying that you are lying I am saying that you might misinterpreter this in thinking that it is abnormal. What you are showing in the video is perfectly normal. -
Witch camera and lens I should bring to London?
milandro replied to mano76's topic in General Discussion
Yes, in a zen way. I was taught to use fork and knife to eat a chicken, even if dining at an informal venue. it forms your character, they told me. True though that is, it is also restrictive and one does feel that. But yes, one can take restrictions the zen way. -

milandro replied to elmacus's topic in Fuji X-E4 / Fuji X-E3 / Fuji X-E1 / Fuji X-E2 / Fuji X-E2s
OP showed a video an there was no “ flashing” on it, none that I could see, I only saw noise. Mind you this is only visible to him when watching the LCD with the camera on and the lens covered... a rather extreme situation and a normal one to show noise, which he calls “sparks” there was no “ flashing" on the video . If that is what you see this is not abnormal! If you have some other problem this might have been caused by the repair but the white dots of noise when shooting in extreme low light or no light are absolutely normal. -
Good for you, but this thread is not about that. It about the model which will follow the X-T10.

Witch camera and lens I should bring to London?
milandro replied to mano76's topic in General Discussion
well, to me by definition, when you limit yourself to a camera with fixed lens you will run into its limits in a place like London. Its as simple as that. That doesn’t mean that one cannot take pictures but it means that one would walk away from a shot with the idea that if he had had another camera he could have made a better shot. All the rest is a matter of personal choice. -
Yes, indeed. Good point. It just another camera. But, really, there is no reason to resort to turpiloquium to say that.

Witch camera and lens I should bring to London?
milandro replied to mano76's topic in General Discussion
yes, nice, I too have used one lens only on a X camera, the 35, or a Rollefilex with 80 or 75, or but for any examples of pictures that you can take only with a “ standard” lens there are plenty of other places and instances when this would be a limiting factor for me. After all why do you think that lenses other than the normal focal length ones, if not out of a need for them, were ever invented and why do you think that the majority of people use camera with interchangeable lenses? -
I am inclined to concur, yet, at the time when the successor of the X-T10 will be introduced and IF it will have the same things that NOW generation 2 will have I will think of what to do.

Using Canon EF lenses
milandro replied to manxman2's topic in Fuji X-Pro 1 / Fuji X-Pro 2 / Fuji X-Pro 3
no adapted lens can be used with autofocus. You need to focus manually. Lenses which allow manual focus and manual setting of the aperture can be used with the proper adapter if the lens doesn’t have an aperture control you may need an adapter which does have an aperture. I hope you bought one of those. http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/994988-REG/fotodiox_eos_iris_fx_p_pro_fujifilm_x_mount_adapter.html -
Which lenses should I take to Thailand?
milandro replied to paulhphotography's topic in General Discussion
I have an excellent and special strap with elastics to absorb its weight and very large padding, and I do, occasionally, carry the camera in a urban setting around my neck, I wouldn’t in a place like Thailand and certainly not while in the forest. -

that would be a nice choice too. OP should rent it before leaving and see how he likes it. I wouldn’t carry any camera and lenses around my neck all the time though. Have neck problems. -

The 16-55 will be a great lens and should give you plenty of range. Not lightweight but versatility and light efficiency always come at a price. I lived in London and in England in my young years. Even back then, when some of the huge landmarks that are there now weren’t built yet, the whole of the place often needed the wide angle perspective. Do yourself a favor and google London 16-55mm Fuji and watch the pics of the Google images
