Reviewing Images: Zoom Level
Patrick FR replied to deva's topic in Fuji X-Pro 1 / Fuji X-Pro 2 / Fuji X-Pro 3
That's why you should always shoot JPEG+RAW: From Rico's X-pert corner article here: http://www.fujirumors.com/raw-for-jpeg-shooters/ Don’t forget that you can preview exposures on your camera only in JPEG format. This means that even in “RAW only” mode, your camera will produce a JPEG out of every RAW file it saves to provide you with a preview file. Otherwise there wouldn’t be anything to examine in playback mode. However, these preview JPEGs in “RAW only” mode are low resolution You need a high resolution JPEG to zoom in 100% and accuratly check your focus, hence shoot RAW+JPEG -
Firmware version 1.01
Patrick FR replied to nathan.mardin's topic in Fuji X-Pro 1 / Fuji X-Pro 2 / Fuji X-Pro 3
I normally buy cameras and lenses at my local store, and they always make sure to give me the gear with the latest firmware installed (very nice service!). I'm not sure if big electronic chains also offer this service, too. Also consider the the latest X-Pro2's come out of factory with 1.01 pre-installed. -

The 16mmF1.4 is, along with the 90mmF2, Fuji best lens so far. Compared to the 10-24, the XF16 is faster, sharper, has a closer focus distance, more compact, weather sealed... My recommandation? Look for a good deal on the XF16mm and with the money saved buy the affordable Samyang 12mmF2 for cases when you need to go wider.

What's more Important: Taking Pictures or Photoshop?
Patrick FR posted a topic in General Discussion
Peter Stewart shared an interesting Before/After Photoshop Gallery. I wonder if today mastering Photoshop has become more important than taking pictures. How important is Photoshop in your work? http://www.peterstewartphotography.com/Before-and-After-Gallery/i-5pxQgNt -

SonyAlphaRumors got this image from a Meyer “internal source”. It’s from photographer Firat Bagdu and it has been shot with the upcoming new Meyer Optik Görlitz mid range prime lens. SAR says: This will be Meyer’s most technologically advanced lens. It’s also near-macro glass. I have been told the specs are the same of one of their historic lenses. The official announcement is set for April 14 at 11am London time… and it will be available also for Fuji X Mount. SonyAlphaRumors Full answer: http://www.sonyalpharumors.com/debunking-sators-article-sonys-full-frame-pro-mirrorless-was-a-fatal-mistake/

I was talking about this with by buddy from SonyAlphaRumors... he's preparing an answer to this. Here some of the points he will publish soon: Size: It's not the "mirrorless" aspect that makes Sony FF attractive. But mirrorless is necessary for most of these innovative features to exist. Big lenses: The lenses are big because it's high quality glass, for example the new 85mm GM lens is made for ultimate quality. [...] Sartor, the author of the article, did not take into account that lenses are also designed for different image quality performances. "Let's make a more fair comparison: Here is the Zeiss FE 35mmF2.8 Vs the XF18mmF2.0 (29mm f/3.0 FF equivalent) comparison by CameraSize (re-aligned on the LCD screen)" "Owning a Sony A7 camera gives you an extreme flexibility: If small size is what matters you can use small APS-C or FF lenses on the very same E-mount. If extreme quality is what matters you can use the bigger FF GM lenses. Such a flexibility is yet second to none in the camera business!" IBIS: SonyAlphaRumors says that Sartor doesn't bring a real actual proof to support his thesis. More coming soon
