50-230 Lens hood

Does the same lens hood for fuji XF 50-230mm fit the Fuji XF 55-200mm lens

I think they are different sizes , fuji makes very many different sizes and few lenses have interchangeable hoods.

 

Also their hoods tend to be often not the most practical choice and there are many threads everywhere on alternative for this that or the other lens.

 

I have the 50-230 and immediately replaced the huge lens hood with a much smaller one. I chose a metal screw one one but you could chose a rubber collapsable hood which in many cases allows you to “ zoom” in two stages ( I wouldn’t find this feature useful for me but if one really wants it is possible to get).

I have that kind for prime lenses. Not sure whether it works well for long zoom; it being quite short.

I did a bit of research after I posted, and it appears that the 50-230mm is 58mm at the far end, and the 55-200mm is a 62mm

 

I have a 58mm rubber lens hood that will have to work for now.

With screw-in hoods I prefer the rubber ones. The metal hoods transfer shocks to the lens more easily.

I just remembered I have a weird looking 58mm vented metal hood I bought for the 18-55mm which unfortunately vignettes at the 18mm then put it in the closet.

 

I should dig it out and try it on the 50-230 one of these days.

Don't use no hoods. Works for me.

hods on long lenses are not as useful as they are on short lenses but when light in hitting the first lens the loss of contrast and resolution is major ( mot so much flare) but as for everything .... whatever floats your boat.

Some lenses recess quite deep and safer to use without hood. 50-230 is not though and more prone to touching with stuff causing smear/get dirty (more likely my own hand/doing). I caution against these more than hits/bumps.
