For some reason, possibly operator error, my X-T50 stops the lens down to autofocus. Happens with three lenses, OEM and third-party, all bought new (haven't tried any others). If I set the aperture to (say) f16, when I press the back button to AF, the viewfinder gets very dark, and the camera misses focus. I can watch it hunting, and it occasionally finds focus and then loses it. This appears to have happened today, even at f5.6. Has anyone else had this happen? Are there settings I am missing? (There always seem to be. 🙂)

in AF-C FujiFilm cameras stop down when you half press the shutter - in AF-S they don't

I thought it might be something like that. I think something else MAY be going on as well. Am going to experiment.

I found out how to defeat that, now to see if I get better results.

I have just read this. All the XT cameras I have owned stop down with a half press of the shutter regardless of whether AF-C or AF-S is selected. This includes my X-T5, which I have just tried with all three shutter types. I haven't experienced your problem. What happens when the button is fully depressed is another matter. I don't have enough knowledge of that. I don't own an X-T50, so I can't say if it is the same.
