Best lens for sports

Hi all. I recently purchased the xt-10 with the 18-55 mm lens. I would like to purchase a new lens for capturing my kid's activities. Mostly sports related. Can anyone suggest a lens best for "amateur" sports photography? I don't want anything too bulky or heavy. Thanks!

The answer is 'it all depends.' If it's the kind of sport where you can get right up close, a wide-angle lens produces powerful, dramatic images. I do a lot of skateboard photography and my preferred lens for that is a fisheye. But if it's the sort of sport where you're some distance away you'll need a telephoto. As a rule, get as close to the action as you can, and then pick the lens that lets you fill the frame. What sort of sports do you have in mind?

It will be basketball and football. I can get on the field, but not all the time.

A zoom lens would seem to be best for that, with the action moving around the field. What are the limitations you're experiencing with your current lens? Is it long enough? Fast enough?

If budget is one of your points, the 55-200 is a great choice. It's slower than the 50-140, but much less expensive and a lot easier to handle on a lighter body like the X-T10.

50-140 with one of the teleconverters if not and if weight is not an issue.
