There are some of the very early ones ( generally in Aluminum mount) which were 39 x 1 ( leica screw).

So, most Helioses are M42 thread, I have an adapter by K7F concept, a tilt adapter by Kipon, and I have  a Lens Turbo II Zhonghy which all fit perfectly an Helios.

But I have a Meyer Görlitz Oreston (also M42, one would think) which doesn’t fit all these three adapters.

Mark, some Helios lens might have the infinity focusing problem. I suggest you to get the  K&F adapter since there's a ring inside you can remove if your lens doesn't focus to infinity. Though I've had several Helioses, M42, 44M-4 and so on, and I found the infinity focusing problem only with one.

Whatever Helios lens you have, you'll need a M42 adapter. Some early Helios lenses (like those from a Zenit E camera) do have the M39 screw mount, but this is not the Leica M39 - the flange distance is the same as M42 while Leicas is much smaller. All you need is a $5 adapter ring that turns the M39 screw into a M42, you can find them on ebay and amazon. I own one of those early Helioses and with the ring it works just fine on a M42 adapter (and a focal reducer).
