Focus points - how many to use?

Hi,

Nikon user since 1965 and trying the X T5 with 150-600mm for wildlife and birds. So far it seems very good but I'm still struggling with the huge number of options in the menus.

So, here's my question, when and why should I use either 117 or 425 focus points. I'm usually on zone focussing with"bird recognition" selected (how do they do this?).

What are the pros and cons please of the two options.

Thanks in advance.

David

I also transitioned from Nikon about 3 years ago and feel your pain. I do not shoot birds but have shot jets and landscapes etc.

So I am far from a Fuji expert!  But the only ssolution that has worked for me is long-pressing the stick, and the using the dial to expand or contract the focus area.  I set the menu at max focus points. But I choose my shooting focus method by changing the focus bracketed area as noted above.

I am sure others with more knowledge will chime in,
