  1. I use the app mostly for photo downloading but once in a while I do use it to choose an image. I usually use single point focus so never noticed this before. The camera usually on single point using the camera to shoot, amd app on single point, can click to change on the app and that all has worked. However I setup the camera for multi-point focus, so through the LCD a larger area which is what I wanted. But when I switched to the app, I still just had single point. Does the app not mirror the camera focus mode? And if not, how do I adjust the focus area and mode on the app! Thanks, BJBBJB
  2. When I switched from Nikon to Fuji, the fact that Shutter priority mode was NOT WYSIWYG made me nuts......but may be what you want. Try shutter priority, in the Fuji world, it does amp up the EVF when settings would otherwise deliver a dark image. Behaves different than other settings. Threads here and on Dpreview. Try it, mine is an XT-30 but think it is an overall Fuji thing vs. Camera specific. You can checkout this thread too Exposure preview issue on X-T5 Hope it helps
  3. That setting may be required for how I switch with the joystick and wheel. I setup so long ago don't remember.
  4. Not sure if same on your model. On my XT-30 I quickly pish in my joystick and spin the dial which increases the focus range to auto or in other direction it goes to single point. I keep on single point and choose focus point with joystick. Then if I hand my camera to someone to take a shot, I change to auto per the above.
  5. I wish it had it too. But I miss an option for filesize other than full size or resized which on an xt-30 is only 1mb. Would love to be able to resize by percent or filesize. BJBBJB
  6. Hi there. I have an XT-30 and upgraded my firmware last week and installed the X app on my S23+ and S8 Ultra. Camera connected to phone no problem. I then installed on my S8 and no joy. The solution for me was to go into the camera connection menu and switch to the tablet model number. It lists model numbers so take note. If I change the connection in camera to match which device I want to use before starting up the app on the phone or tablet it seems to work. It seems the camera should be able to recognize a previously paired device like every other Bluetooth device but I guess not. Hope that helps. If there is a better way let me know. FWIW once connected the connection more stable than the old app. BJBBJB
  7. I also transitioned from Nikon about 3 years ago and feel your pain. I do not shoot birds but have shot jets and landscapes etc. So I am far from a Fuji expert! But the only ssolution that has worked for me is long-pressing the stick, and the using the dial to expand or contract the focus area. I set the menu at max focus points. But I choose my shooting focus method by changing the focus bracketed area as noted above. I am sure others with more knowledge will chime in, BJBBJB
  8. I only use this to backup settings before updating firmware. I tried to run my old version in windows that worked a few years ago to backup my settings. Old version crashed. Updated to new fuji version and it runs and I see the taskbar icon but then when I plug in my XT-30, the app/program crashes. The thought of updating my firmware without having a backup of my settings is terrifying!
  9. I plan to use the pc utility to backup settings before doing the update. Hope I don't need it though.
  10. Yes, that is how I used the old version. Just a few more steps before/after using it each time. BJBBJB
  11. That is good to hear. Was scary to read about some of the firmware update issues on some models. BJBBJB
  12. Thanks. Yes the old app did that too. I would turn it on when I used it on my android phone then turn it of when I was done. Wasn't that big of a deal for me.
  13. I was just going to update the firmware on my XT-30 and install the updated Fuji-X app but based on the above, it may be better to wait? I did not even see a release about the updated app, it just showed ip in the google apps store. I definitely will use that windows fuji program to backup my settings whenever I do take the plunge. Haven't done that since initial setup! Hope they do get this fixed and working. I can usually get the old app to work after trying like 3 or 4 times. This weekend it would not work at all which is what is making me want to get this working. BJBBJB
  14. I wish the custom settings saved everything also. The exceptions of what it does not save means I don't use them. Could never find a use case where I knew every setting was how I wanted it except what I want to change if that makes sense. The advice for using a button and then Q menu for items you need to see the status of is good.
  15. I wish I could help. I have read the charts on what these settings save and what it doesn’t....have never been 100% comfortable using. But never had that particular issue.
  16. @Scott_VXT I experienced (and still do) this exact same frustration when I switched from Nikon to Fuji when the XT-30 came out! I love my XT-30 but this preview issue in shutter priority still creates issues sometimes for me. In this mode the Fuji system is more like a "quick develop" system (take a shot and see what your image looks like) vs. a true mirror less preview. Perhaps it could be called darkroom mode? I think we should at least get a menu item to choose. There are several older threads on dpreview that discuss this same topic. The basic feedback is "it isn't a bug it is a feature" or "that's how Fuji does it". And photographers that have shot Fuji forever don't even seem to realize it or see why some of us feel it is an issue.... The way they shoot is shoot, preview, then use exp comp. This is fine, I do that too when I need to, and that dial is great, but preview should still be preview. FWIW the positives of this system outweigh the negatives but it almost made me return my XT-30 way back then. BJBBJB
  17. I have found if I push the joystick and expand the focus area that assists when I am in your position. Single point does not work for me for action. I am sure I am not explaining it exactly right but expand the focus area to the range of the action and it works much better. BJB
  18. Thank you very much! I am reviewing that and exactly what I was trying to understand. Thanks, BJBBJB
  19. Thanks @jerryy Can you share what the difference is between setting the lever to auto, and just leaving the F-stop lens switch and shutter speed on auto and NOT having the level on auto? For example I want 100 Mbps...does "lever auto" over-ride that? Does lever auto choose a film simulation? I am happy to read the manual (I know that is weird) but did not see any detailed explanation. I feel like I did when I switched from Nikon (after many years) to Fuji for images a year and a half ago.....almost went back. But this forum and others helped me out. Frustrating. I may just take my Sony 4k camera. Just not comfortable and shouldn't have to take a bunch of test videos, edit in premiere pro, just to shoot casuals video. H That's what I was trying to avoid.... BJBBJB
  20. LOL, thanks, you are probably right. As I play with this what is the difference for video of the "lever" Auto setting and just setting shutter and F stop lens ring to auto? I never use the lever auto for images... Thanks, BJB
  21. I also avoid all auto settings like the plague on my serious image cameras (Nikon and Fuji) and my serious video camera when shooting critically. I will stick with 100Mbps, thanks for that info. I don't think I want to do manual pull focus for casual video so will have to play around with auto focus. And if auto exposure doesn't work for video on the T-30 I might just shoot 4k on my Samsung Note 20 Ultra+. I know that works.😀 Thanks, BJBBJB
  22. I have shot 4K video with a standalone video camera for years and just starting to use my XT-30 for 4K video. Have gotten pretty familiar with the image settings for a converted Nikon shooter! I do not need to get real complicated with my video settings as I just want to shoot some casual video, hand-held, scenic shots, some people, etc. Outdoor, no lighting needed. Just a few questions. If I use auto on my lens slider and auto for shutter speed and ISO, does that default to a decent exposure and settings? I don't need F-log or anything, just a normal simulation mode, I guess Provia? I use 100Mbps on my video camera, is that reasonable for the XT-30? And what focus mode does auto use or should I use.... I typically just use the joystick and use center focus or if I hand my camera to someone, I press and expand it so it does tracking. I assume for video a larger square of focus points that tracks makes sense? Do I need to use a Q preset and will that store all my video settings when I switch from image to video? My image settings are usually RAW+JPEG, manual exposure, etc. etc... Far different from what I will want to use for video. I just want to shoot.... Again, if auto just works that is fine with me. However I know on all my image cameras, if you use auto, there are always a few settings that you for sure want to change to get good images. Thanks for any help, BJBBJB
  23. @jerryy Thanks again. Makes sense. As far as monitor menu settings, I was just asking if any particular setting changed any of the above. It appears not. I cut my teeth on occasional auto-ISO use with Nikon. Saved me during quick change lighting scenes where I wanted a certain shutter speed, like a concert. Rarely use outdoors... And I get of course that exposure comp will indeed change your exposure and image, even if preview has no real relationship unless starting with a good exposure. Thanks again! @BJBBJB
  24. @jerryy, Thank you so much for taking the time to write this up!!!! I just wanted to understand how this works with Fuji and yours was the first accurate representation of what I am seeing. I do shoot manual the majority of the time, but also use the priority modes. I had already gotten (kind of) used to not seeing my true ISO if on auto-ISO unless I half pressed the shutter. This is the case in all modes as far as I can tell which is different than my prior kit. I do find that I take some images by mistake just trying to see the ISO it is picking. 😃 Thanks for the half shutter press tip on aperture priority. No one else mentioned this and that does work. Although strangely the AE lock button does not do the same thing as a half shutter press. I was hopeful I could use that button for an exposure preview but it appears not. As far as shutter priority, it does seem like the only option is to look for the "red" F stop indicator as you really don't seem to get a preview of the actual exposure in shutter priority mode. Do I have that right? So shutter priority is a bit different than aperture priority as far as showing exposure preview with a half button push? Now that I know what it is doing, I can adjust. If I am using auto-ISO in any mode, I get to see the ISO with a half press. In aperture priority I get a true preview of exposure, and in shutter priority I don't, but camera will do its best. Does that sound about right? And finally, there are no settings in the menus that impact the above? It seems that is the behavior no matter what you choose for settings? For example Natural Live view only impacts filters etc. and not exposure. One additional really odd thing......No matter what mode you use, exposure comp actually makes the preview screen brighter or darker whether the starting point is your true exposure or not in all modes. Thanks again! BJBBJB
