I am considering buying this software as a plug in through my copy of Photoshop.  Once downloaded, is it immediately available through PS, or must something be done to position it so that it can be accessed when in PS?  Thanks for any help.

exactly, now it is free

you can use it as stand alone or as part of several programs which include it as options

Can it be used stand alone for raw conversion?

I have very limited choices for processing RAF files from the X70. (Windows7)

For RAW conversion you could use Fuji's free RFC converter, creating a 16 bit TIF. Then you could apply the NIK effects.

My X70 came with no software and the Silkypix2 software will not recognize the files.

Silkypix offers nothing free for the X70 files.

EDIT.

I've just found there's a small update to Silkypix2. I will try it now.
