frame lines needed on X-T1 EVF, histogram backgrounds

From using my Fuji X-T1 for a short time I have realized that there are a couple of things Fuji could and should implement immediately in all its EVF cameras.

Problem 1: - shooting in dark/night situations where when shooting with optical view cameras in low light environments it's usually easy to see the edges of the frame and compose your shot appropriately.  Not so with Fuji EVF's where black/dark background areas near the edge of the frame are rendered the same as the non-image portions outside the frame, thus making it impossible to precisely judge where your subject is relative to edge of the frame. Thus, even though you have a 100% view,  hi-brightness subjects against a dark background shot in a fast-paced action environment can get off-centered easily

Solution 1: is simple. Fuji needs to add a "white frame" mode in its EVF display setting where the frame edge is outlined in white/gray or color by user option. This would eliminate the framing problem described above and would greatly facilitate shooting of rapidly moving subjects.

Problem 2: - in a similar fashion, grid line display is now rendered in black and thus leaves the potential that you can see grid placement of light subjects over large dark background.

Solution2 : grid display should be changed so that the photographer can select briteline grid display per idea 1.

Problem 3: - live histogram is a fantastic tool which nonetheless suffers from a problem similar to the above: that is, when shooting with the histogram overlaying a dark area in the view, you see only the histogram but not where it is relative to the edges. Thus, you can think you are shooting a great histogram when actually it's way over or under exposed.

Solution 3: provide a histogram options where the background of the graph is filled in white (not transparent) thus allowing you to get a more complete view of the histogram.

ALL the above solutions could be implemented via firmware and more importantly, these fixes could immediately provide a vast improvement in user experience.

Anyone out there whose experience echoes mine?

Really only need solution 2.  If you could change the color of the grid, you wouldn't need a frame line.  I would personally hope they don't add anything else to the EVF.  I think it's perfect the way it is.

Just a rotation of your aperture ring will show you were your histogram looses information.  I've never experienced this problem because it's quite easy to tell when you're blowing your highlights or crushing your blacks even if you can't see the edge of your histogram.

If they change the histogram at all I'd have it remain in place when you half press your shutter.  That's the one thing that bugs me about the histogram.

For all the features I propose, I would have these as options so that you could turn on/off frame lines with a menu choice. People who want their EVF display with no frame lines could still have that option. And as i consider this even more, the people who could most benefit would be night and low light landscape shooters.

And as far as turning the aperture ring to better see histogram - it that only applies to XF lenses with aperture rings and working in manual mode.

    • I am glad to read you are able to get this up and running. Pretty much as long as you connect connect the camera and turn it on, wait a few moments for the computer to register the connection and then you can then use Image Capture (which actually is a very decent program with a lot of options for transferring images from cameras to the computer) or Lightroom to move the images to your library. There are some drawbacks; connecting to the computer while it is in sleep mode will waste your time, the connection will not get recognized— you will have to unplug the camera, wake the computer and start over. Trying to connect while the screen saver is running may work, it may not, often not. If the computer goes into screen saver mode while the camera is connected and sitting idle, it usually stays connected when coming back out of screen saver, but if the computer mputer goes into sleep mode, the connection gets dropped and you have to unplug it and start over. I suggested having the camera turned off while connecting, this is to lower the possibility of static electricity discharges frying either the camera or the computer or both. A lot of times you can connect while the camera is turned on, but not always, sometimes you have to unplug, turn it off, reconnect and turn it back on. A lot of this comes from Apple’s approaches towards keeping USB devices from hijacking your computer, some is just hubris and some is the vagaries of chance. p.s. Your laptop should be able to connect to the camera.
    • Hi Chas, I am just fallen into the rabbit hole of investigating how to upgrade my X-T4's video sound... Loving the idea of time code sync, I am now quite concerned that the X-T4 doesn't support it, although I have already seen different statements on the net, like here:  https://youtu.be/xja27RmvbhE?si=hIch3Tu_MH_pWSBH&t=571 I have to admit, this guy's "explanation" gets quite confusing in his further discourse ...:) BUT, as you wrote that you use Tentacle Sync for Windows!, did you also try with their windows-only software "Time Code Tool" which you find here?: https://tentaclesync.com/timecode-tool   Would love to here if you found a workaround with the XT4 Best, Simon
    • It occurred sometime when I focus. It is not silent
    • This is the video for the focusing sound. Anyone can help?🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻thanks a lot IMG_3226.mov
    • Wow Jerry, Simply Wow and thanks: I switched off camera. Connected Cam to Mac with USB-C Switched on cam Looked at system report which said Camera PTP Then opened up Image Capture (I never even knew IC was still on the latest macOS) and the files on the GFX showed up. Then opened up LR and FINALLY GFX images showed.   Interestingly like all the cameras - You don't get to navigate to the /DCIM folder - but that's no big deal. *** But for the exercise I tried this on my Intel MacBook Pro running Monterey - but no luck there with the above steps (No big deal). I hav Eno idea how this even started to work - Is it the process of Looking at Sys Report or Just the fact that I opened it on Image Capture   OR that I Connected first THEN Switched on the camera.  What actually made it work? The Irony is I don't think Fuji Support in Aust have any idea about this as they have been stumped over this for the last few months.   Thanks Again  - truly appreciated!! John
