I shoot street life hand held, with some subject motion, easily with the 16mm wide open and 1/60 at iso 6400. For anything else, a tripod would be a better option. Shooting raw is recommended.

Yeah, low NR, although I do use Long Exposure NR (black frame NR). Definitely go with raw+Fine. Fine so that you can gauge your shots in camera and raw to have all the latitude the raw file allows for later. Use low ISO (200) and small aperture (I prefer 11 +/1 one stop).

Get a good tripod. Get a cheap cable remote release, you can't go beyond 30 seconds without one. Rest of the settings don't matter too much. Learn how to operate full manual to get the most out of it.

It's really not hard, go out and shoot some, take a look at the results, go out again and repeat with the experience from last time. It takes a few times to get some nice shots, but it's a lot of fun.

First of all, all those settings are only (mostly ?) applied to the jpeg output files.

If you shoot RAW files, none of the above matters.

And if you shoot jpeg directly, there are no one settings for all. You will need to change them on regular basis depending on your subject. Sometimes you will have more light, other times you want to keep the reflection on water (think of port cities).

What I usually have is have the NR at 0 or -1 and Sharpening at around 0 or +1 depending on how bad it looks from the LCD.

As for film simulation, I like Provia a lot but if there are a lot of colors and I want deeper night too, I swap to Velvia.

Little side note, on the bracketing option, you can go for Film Simulation, just pick 3 of them that you like/want to try and take the shot. You will be rewarded with 3 jpeg files with each their own film simulation, kind of handy if you are unsure which one would come out the best for the scenery.

Got a 25 sec on a bridge with the XF 10-24 F4 lens, which is noticeably lighter. I was still slightly holding the legs to avoid the camera to fall down and maybe cause a major traffic accident.

there are DIY solutions mostly involving the use of the Calumet rolling bag dividers.

I think I will take the x100t for some street photography and the xt1+16-55+gorillapod for nightshot and monuments.

    Yes, in a zen way.

I was taught to use fork and knife to eat a chicken, even if dining at an informal venue.

it forms your character, they told me. True though that is, it is also restrictive and one does feel that.

But yes, one can take restrictions the zen way.

well, to me by definition, when you limit yourself to a camera with fixed lens you will run into its limits in a place like London.

Its as simple as that. That doesn’t mean that one cannot take pictures but it means that one would walk away from a shot with the idea that if he had had another camera he could have made a better shot.

All the rest is a matter of personal choice.

If you feel limited by that, you are correct. I just plain don't feel limited by this. I'll take a different approach to photos.

London has many narrow streets where the 23mm will not be able to cut the mustard, unless one has, at least the wide angle adapter, I would never limit myself to that camera.

    Just take the X100T.
Not much to lug around/loose, no hassles changing lenses.
You'll learn a lot about photography and when you come home you'll be amazed at the excellent pix you took.

If you're coming to England soon then you're going to need as wide an aperture as you can get, the Sun hasn't been seen for a few weeks now!

Cheers, that would get all the bases covered although you are taking two cameras in the end.

I'd take the X100t for my main travel camera. It's pocketable, it's light, it's silent, it's inconspicuous and it takes great pictures. I'd bring along the WCL in my other pocket for tight indoor spaces. Then if you feel the need of anything more 'specialist', pack the XT1 and 16-55.

Just the 16-55 will be fine. f2.8 is plenty for most occasions. Travel light, walk lots, that brings you good pictures. I travel almost daily for work, and even though I nearly always have 2 bodies in my bag, I rarely use more than just the 1 body and 1 lens.

David Duchemin, Magnum photographer, says it's the tip he gives everyone who asks the same question: one body, one lens. Nothing more.

I went to London three times last year, X-T1 with XF35mm on two occasions (plus XF23 and XF56 which I only needed for a model shoot during one of the trips), X100T with TCL for the other.

I'm flying again in Feb to London, Frankfurt and Cologne (Germany), will either take X100T + TCL or just the X-T1 with XF35/2. If you are a worrier about "missed shots" (I'm not, I've never "missed" a shot) I'd take the X-T1 with 16-55 and be done with it.
