Battery Management and the Fuji X-T2
typeronin replied to pete1959's topic in Fuji X-T2 / Fuji X-T20
I personally think people are way too fussy with their batteries. I have a mix of OEM and third party batteries and while I do find that the third party batteries aren't as good as the OEM, they are around 90% as good for around 15% of the cost. I've never bought an OEM battery. I'd rather buy 6 third party ones instead for the same price. I use Patona and Wasabi batteries. I've had those Chilipower ones in the past as well and find that they're the weakest of the bunch. I've never come across one of them swelling or blowing up. The only annoying thing is that the battery indicator isn't very reliable (first bar last as long as the rest put together) but that's a fairly minor issue. Batteries typically last around 300-400 photos on my X-T2 but I've had it exceed 600 on a single battery. -
Battery Management and the Fuji X-T2

Opposite of my findings with the X-T2. I shot nearly 3000 frames with two X-T2 bodies during a large concert event and went through maybe...5-6 batteries. A lot of that was continuous focus at 8FPS. The X-T2 with the grip did not need a battery change at all while the other needed 3 batteries. This was over a period of 6 hours. I did some reviewing on the LCD but had it turned off. I have two OEM NP-W126s and the rest are third party batteries from Patona and Wasabi. -
I got my X-T2 on Sept. 6th. Shot with it all the time since. Took it to Barcelona and put 5,000 shots through it in the first week. I work for my city's tourism board shooting videos on interesting restaurants in the area. I shoot video on it along with my GH4. Not once have I noticed the X-T2 getting warm. I had a guy tell me he returned two because they were warm to the touch but I've never had any of these problems. I run both the NP-W126S battery along with the old NP-W126 battery as well as a number of Wasabi and Patona third-party batteries. Zero problems across the board. Couldn't be happier with it, really.

I hate having that conversation. Honestly, I hate talking about cameras with people. Talking photography is great but there are so many people that just want to talk megapixels and frames per second. The worst conversation is when some asshole just insists that Nikon or Canon or Pentax or whatever is best.

I think it looks cool. I mean, it's a bit like pre-distressed jeans but it's damn near impossible to put that much wear on a camera these days if you're going for that look. I have a few nicks on my X-T1 but I doubt it will ever look as "vintage" as that. LOL people saying you "destroyed" it. I assume it still functions 100%...it just looks badass now.

X-Pro2 delayed
typeronin replied to fordfanjpn's topic in Fuji X-Pro 1 / Fuji X-Pro 2 / Fuji X-Pro 3
Late March for Canada, sounds like. -
The X-Pro2 focuses quite quick and accurately. I still don't think it's on par with the quickest DSLRs. Is the gap big enough that I notice the difference? Yes. Is the gap big enough that I care? No. Stuff like the X-Pro2, EM5-II and just about everything Sony's doing have convinced me that mirrorless is the way to go. The DSLR is dead to me.

X70 is still Feb 15, I believe. -
The problem is that USB ports are not created equal, nor are USB cables so how fast a battery charges fluctuates depending on the battery you're using. Plugged into a wall or my Macbook, a battery takes like...45 minutes to charge. Plugged into a random generic USB battery, it's probably double that. But LOL I don't care about that. There's no simpler portable battery charging solution for Fuji. There was a 0.8A version of the same charger available too but it disappeared off Amazon before I bought it. This one that I have is 0.4A http://www.amazon.com/OAproda%C2%AE-Replacement-NP-W126-Portable-FUJIFILM/dp/B00PA2ABES

There's really no substitute for true DSLR focus speed. Well, actually...there's no substitute for high-end DSLR speed. A pro class DSLR like a 5D3 or a Nikon D800 will be a heck of a lot faster than the X-Pro or the X-T1 but c'mon they also cost several times more. In low-light I find the EVF makes the biggest difference. It's like night-vision and the X-Pro has gotten even better than the X-T1 at this because of the even higher refresh rate. The new Arcos filter looks fantastic in low-light. It's a little HDR looking when you pump up the dynamic range but all handheld. LOVED shooting with Arcos. And the noise...there's definitely visible noise at 6400 or 12800 but the detail is still sharp enough in most situations. I'll post some samples in a bit. JPEG only though...I have no way of processing these RAW files so I've just resized JPEGs. The noise looks quite good though. Can it really be called noise at this point? I can still tell it's digital but it does give shots...texture.

I hear you. My ideal camera would be an X-Pro2 body with a X-T1 EVF and a fully articulated screen. I don't understand why we can have tilt screens but not articulated ones. It's just a hinge! I could do without the OVF. It's super cool but really I don't find myself using it much. I do enjoy the rangefinder styling and functionality (button arrangement, eyecup on the side) but the EVF size difference and lack of a tilt screen (you don't miss it until it's gone!) is a minus for me.

You're welcome! I would take my crappy phone EVF pics with a grain of salt. It's actually much harder to tell in actual use. The X-Pro2's EVF doesn't look small...it's a great EVF. The 85fps is amazing. However, the X-T1's is bigger and if you use them back-to-back or (like I did) X-Pro2 right eye, X-T1 left eye...it's significant.

IBIS would be nice but not totally necessary. Same sensor. Dual card slots. The usual, I guess. Give me an X-T2 that shoots like the X-Pro2 but with...an even bigger EVF? I totally love the big screen TV they fit in the X-T1 and it's one of the reasons I might not buy an X-Pro2. The X-Pro2 "feels" more mechanical than the X-T1. The shutter button and sound are great. A f'n threaded shutter button would be nice. I never understood why the X-T1 had a regular shutter button.
