I think it is different with X-t2. With X-T1 also if the subject is out of focus , and you have setted priority to focus when you press the buttom , the camera always take the picture also if out focus

I use silkypix developer, lightroom classic CC 2019v8, Nx2, Photoshop CC 2019, but for different finality. Silkypix developer for obtain the maximum dof developing and quality of image, lightroom for archiving the photos and research them, nx2 for masks of contrast and use of nik filters and photoshop, for correct dimensions of photos and resampling. Compensation works normally only in automatic like is normal that has to be, because is a my decision in the contrary of automatic choises of the camera. In manual there is no meaning to do that.

Try to put more distance between camera and object. The 18-55 has not the capacity to taken photo near. Miniumum distance is 60 Cm

To which distrance are ypu taken the picture? The square is green? Yes or not?
