  1. You miss a few points about the 16-55.

The 16-55 is optically superior to the 18-55, no standard lens with a fast aperture has internal zoom and the AF of the 16-55 2.8 is MUCH better than any other Fuji lens with only the 50-140 being on par regarding speed and reliability.

you're probably right about the IQ and AF speed, but for me the 18-55 already the limit in size and weight for a mirrorless camera for me. The large weight and size of the 16-55 really puts me off and that's why I prefer the 18-55 to it.

But to get back on topic. There is a video on fujirumors with a test of the f1.4 with fw 4. Looks snappy enough for me!

  2. If i'm not completely wrong, Fuji has not yet confirmed about specs as WR or not WR.

(Probably the even said, that they have not yet decided?)

My guess is: The XF35/2 will be weather sealed, if the X-Pro2 is too. That simple. :-)

I saw a video with billy from the fujiguys and stated that the lens isn't officially announced. But imo it would be a dumb move to leave out WR. I'd rather prefer my 35mmf1.4. Af speed is adequate for me and the 1.4 is already quite small. I would buy the 35mm f2 for its WR as an ultimate carry around lens for when the conditions are a bit rough.
  3. After almost buying the Samyang/rokinon i suddenly changed my mind. I own the 8mm fisheye for when I want to fool around, but didn't like the build that much. If I'm gonna invest in a new lens I have to be 100% sure I won't regret it. Now I'm torn between the fujinon xf14 and xf16. When I get the chance I'll definitely try them side by side. But if you guys could only choose 1 ultra wide... Which would it be?

  4. Iirc, the Leica X, T, X-Vario and Q are all fly by wire

Imo that's not terrible news, as the (iirc) the Leica implementation has hard stops on the focus ring.

The Q is £2900rrp in the UK

    1) that's a lot for a camera. Period. There's not that many (as a percentage of all cameras) cameras that cost more...

    2) it's an insane amount for a fixed lens camera.

    3) for a FF digital Leica body, with AF and a decent spec EVF, coupled with a 28mm 1.7 summilux, it's actually a lot cheaper than it could be....

I agree for the most part. If it proves that the iq is as good as a "real" summilux it isn't as expensive most people think. Considering the announced 28mm summilux (albeit f1.4 instead of f1.7) is € 4000-5000. That is a lens without AF and without a FF camera attached! I think this camera is a steal.

If I was invested in a Leica system I'd probably get the Q (second body) instead of the 28 f1.4 summilux.

I also prefer the x100 to the xf 23mm f1.4 lens. But in this situation the camera is more expensive then the lens.

  5. My think tank mirrorless mover 20 is small and carries my xt1 with lens, x100s and 1 lens (or 2 lenses). Lenspen, spare batteries, sd cards, ef-20, iPad 4, rain cover, with room for more accessories. Their available in heathered grey now, which I like more then my original one.

I also have a Hadley small. Which carries about the same but is a little bulkier and also misses a handle on the lid.

  6. Don't worry, the earliest picture already showed WR written on it, there is absolutely no reason they would backpedal.

    fuji6.jpg

This definitely will be a must have lens for every xshooter! A weather resistant 50mm equivalent is what I was waiting for. I also like the new design and I hope it's the first of many new "smaller" lenses. I only wish it had the push/pull focusring with distance markings. Seeing the foto isn't the final design I'm still hoping....

  7. Don't forget the Zeiss 12 mm, great lens and now available with a solid rebate.

I considered the touit. But seeing how cheap the Samyang/Rokinon is, the reviews, the fact that they're the same focal length and the cheaper one a full stop faster it's a no brainer between these 2.

  8. Well, I'm currently deciding wether to buy the 16-55 or a couple of primes (35, 16?). I want fast AF for the occasional action shoot and and shallow depth of field/light gathering capabilites. The 35 f/2 sounds like it will offer better AF speed, BUT it would also only be F/2 - which is very close to 2.8 from the zoom, so the advantage is kind of negated for me.

Btw, I'm a flexible shooter. I enjoy shooting primes but also the flexibility of zooms. Just in case you're wondering. ;)

one important thing , you didn't mention, to consider is the size and weight. The f2.8 zoom lenses are huge compared to the primes. The 35mm f2 WR is going to be even smaller then the classic 35mm f1.4.

If its only about light gathering f2 is still a full stop faster then f2.8. If it's about dof the 35mm f1.4 stopped down to f2 will still give you nice bokeh. Don't underestimate an f2 lens. It's plenty fast and still has nice thin dof. Remember that the x100 series is "only" f2.

    Personally I don't think the 16-55mm f2.8 isn't worth it because:

    - no ois

    - no internal zoom

    - large and heavy

    - get the cheaper and smaller 18-55 with ois

    http://admiringlight.com/blog/fuji-16-55mm-f2-8-vs-18-55mm-f2-8-4/

And if you want fast and thin dof get the 56mm f1.2 instead.

  9. Also depends on what sort of effect you're looking for. If you want that stylised, ultra-wide angle look, go for the 12mm. Whereas if you want a more naturalistic, journalistic, wide-angle where the lens effect is less intrusive, go for the 16mm

never shot ultrawide before... So I'll probably need to figure that out for myself.
  10. Very nice indeed! Wish I had more money to burn. Leica is playing catchup and learned especially from the panny lx100. The macro ring looks really cool. I love how the lens has a focus tab, mechanical MF AND AF. When will Fuji finally ditch focus by wire?

  11. Thanks for your input. I'm definitely not considering the Fuji X100S or T. I already own a Helios 44M and Helios 40-2 (M42) and expect to use them at some point. (Waiting for the Xpro2 currently and I've just sold my Canon 5D Mk II).

I'm not sure if you're gonna be satisfied using these lenses. It seems to me you'll probably not gonna use them very often. You're going to be much more satisfied with the quality of the xf lenses. If you want a 35mm experience in small format, then your best option will be the xf27mm pancake. It's small and closest to 35mm (40mm) you can get in a small form factor. No aperture ring though. I passed on the slrmagic because of its size and realized I didn't need another 35mm equivalent lens, because I already got a x100. Maybe just be patient. Fujifilm is introducing a "smaller" 35mm the end of this year. Maybe they'll do the same with the 23mm...
  12. @Aswald: Please. Go take some photos. LOL. Really. Stop playing with the lenses, and flashlights and for Gods sakes stop cleaning them. I am using a camera bag that has crap-loads of sand from the beach- going on three months now; plus lots of dog hair from my dog that passed away in November last year. Oh, and I think my lunch one day may have partially spilled in the bag. Oh well...

I've yet to clean it. And quite frankly, I don't care. I just go out and shoot.

    My condolences...
  13. For the price of a new lens you could easily get a used x100 s/t in my opinion. The best 35mm experience you can get! I have a xt1 and x100s combo. Makes a very good backup camera and no fiddling with lens changes. The x100 s/t doesn't really take more space in your bag then an extra lens. You do get less speed and dof 2 vs 1.4 though, but that shouldn't be a big issue.

  14. I'm totally getting it and I'm not hating, I understand everyone who asks politely (tho I'd argue it'd be more efficient to mail them directly or write on the official forum) for an upgrade, but I do hate those "I DEMAND" and "GIVE IT TO ME OR ELSE..." attitude.

So write them an email if you like to, and meanwhile keep shooting and share your pictures. The level of those who brag the most being less than impressive, there is still some hard work to do before reaching 20% of the capacities of the X100S as it is. That's not called hating that is called preaching for some humility and reality check.

CC won't turn a bad picture into a good one. The AF is sufficient to shoot fast moving animals. Don't get me started, it's a lost cause.

I totally agree with you that some people should show humility! I have a x-t1 and have all the latest bells and whistles. But it also reminds me that my x100s isn't reaching its full potential.

Fuji probably is a bit random in how they perform kaizen, no sense of direction. It feels like they made a mistake with the x100s and quickly replaced it with the x100t. In my opinion the managers should have decided early on, that all camera's of the same generation (EXRI, XTransI and EXRII,XTransII) should have the same FW features. With the obvious exception of hardware limitations (evf resolution, fixed lens vs ilc, wifi, button layout etc) this makes sense to me as a business model.

Apple also does it with its software. They could choose to not upgrade the software of older models of iPhone/macs. But instead it made more sense to continually improve their products and therefore apple has been growing even more. The software in every product is essentially the same, the hardware makes the difference. People should be able to choose between camera's not because of software features but hardware.

This forum and topic is just a way for some of us to vent frustration and/or give our opinion.

  15. And next there will be an Ektachrome simulation available for the X100T, and you'll be all over the place because the X100S doesn't get it and it's so freaking autentically X100S-ish. Or Portra. Or Tri-X. Whatever. This has simply no end.

You have to accept that at some point there is an end to the support of a product. Your camera is better than at day 1, and not worse than tomorrow. As long as it makes pictures...

Really I think this kaizen thing has perverted Fuji's customers in wanting always more and more and more but when does it stop? Certainly not with a "LAST UPDATE PLEASE FUJI WE PROMISE JUST ONE AND WE'LL BE FINE".

No, you won't. Something will be next.

Go look at what this guy makes : http://www.dirtyharrry.com/1970/06/once.html

And think that it's made with a canon DSLR, shitty pinhole lense and beat-up wide angles primes and almost no PP, and it looks 1000x more like CC than any of the fuji amateur pictures I've ever seen.

    It's not the camera.

You are totally not getting it. The hardware is going to reach a limit when the EXRIII processor is introduced. So any new features that will be introduced in the xpro2 will most likely not be available for x100s, x100t, x-e2, x-t1 or x-t10. But at least these camera who are of the same generation should have the FW to take full advantage of the hardware it has, before Fuji takes the next step. They already did it with the EXRI camera's within its hardware limits. (x100, x-pro1, x-e1)

And most of us are not demanding anything (more like politely asking) The x100s has the hardware to support an updated FW. Even if we will not get any update I'll still use my x100s with a lot of pleasure. Why are you hating so much? Between the x100t and the x100s... The hardware should make the difference, not the hardware.

  16. ... FujiFilm firmware support for x100s stinks.

FujiFilm deliberately limited firmware functionality of x100s not supporting full hardware potential of it.

That's exactly the point. The x100s FW should take full advantage of the hardware. That's the essence of kaizen right? We x100s owners are fully aware of the hardware limitations. the x100t is already superior to the x100s. Most new clients will buy the x100t over the x100s now anyways because of its superior hardware. It just doesn't feel right that owners of the x100s have a camera which isn't the camera it could potentially be.

  17. Yes, the Sam/Rok 12mm is the value king. It's not quite as incredible as the 14mm (which may be one of the best 90deg lenses out there - according to my Leica buddies), but it's considerably wider and and a stop faster - and that's an amazing achievement. If you need wider than 14 and you're on a budget, it's an obvious choice. Even if you had the zoom, you may want to have a FAST ultra wide available.

Thanks for the advice! I've decided to get the 12mm. I can always get the 14mm in the future if I need something narrower and have some extra cash laying around.
