Granted it's just a rumour at the moment, but in a couple of days we should find out whether it's fixed or not.

Over at the DPReview forums there is a gentleman that indicates the issue appears to be hardware and the US center has fixed them (link).  Not sure what to believe, but I no longer have my money invested in the camera, but I am interested in the outcome as I had three X-Pro2's with the black frames, off/on error, and WiFi issues.

Signed up just so i can give you guys an update.

Fuji Singapore returned me my Xpro 2 stating that they were unable to resolve the issue as it was firmware based - i have the on/off error coupled with black frame (only fella in my country it seems - bloody luck of the draw) [ At least they are confident that the issue is software and not hardware based - which seems reasonable seeing how some people have had the issue recur even with replacement sets).

Initially i had heat issues as well but that seems to be resolved by my local Fuji Technician.

Fuji Singapore also has information that a firmware update for this issue is due very, very soon - possibly by end April.

    *fingers crossed then*

In bright daylight, I'll be at f/11, and either zone focused if I'm aiming at a wall and hyperfocal otherwise (this is with the 23mm). Because of this I don't tend to need to manual focus, and I hardly ever use autofocus.

Although I'm not intrusive, I'm pretty shameless when I point my camera; I don't try to hide it. In fact, I try to make it obvious that I'm taking photos in an area and pretty soon people just ignore me. I don't try to be a fly on the wall as I imagine that would make me seem even more creepy. If someone gives me the stink eye, I'll actually engage them in a conversation, which they're never expecting. I have had a few cases where people ask me not to take pictures of them where in fact I wasn't taking pictures of them; they just assumed I was. One of them said that she knew for a fact people were paying me to take pictures of them. Not quite sure how to handle those situations, but maybe next time I'll just take a nice close-up of them so as to make sure they're not liars.

As far as aesthetics, I believe street photography is first and foremost a visual art and therefore should strive to incorporate composition, but beyond that it should have emotional impact. I don't prescribe for myself whether subjects should be shot close-up, in the distance, fill a frame, or even be facing the camera. Just as long as it has emotional impact. If there's something on a person that's interesting to me, I try to get that thing, whether it's an arm, their pants color, whatever, to fill the frame instead of shooting their entire body.

I look through my viewfinder a lot but try not to press the shutter unless I know I've got a shot. In fact I usually feel pretty proud of myself when I don't take a shot since I have a pretty itchy trigger finger and use to take a bunch of crap where I figured maybe I'd luck out. I usually never luck out. Even if I did luck out, it was luck that got the shot, not my skill.

On a related note, I don't take hip shots. Even if I get a good shot with a hip shot, I don't feel satisfied because it was luck, not skill, that got the shot. Also, I use to feel like I was chickening out when I did take hip shots in the past. This is different than, say, using the flip-out screen on an X-T1. You're still composing so I consider it fine, no different than using something like a Rolleiflex.

I try to smile and acknowledge people I shoot in an area, or even people I don't shoot but make eye contact with. I continue to smile when I put the camera to my face. The rangefinder-style camera helps here because they can actually see me smile.

I dress casual, but not sloppy, and definitely not like a professional photographer. I don't carry a camera bag. I walk around looking at stuff like I'm a tourist. I randomly point my camera at far off buildings to make it seem like I'm shooting them. If anyone asks, I'm a photography student, which for the most part is true.

I think that pretty much sums it up. Would love to hear other people's techniques.

    Hello,

I am new to Fuji X, but not new to photography. I just got an X-Pro 2 w/ 27mm f/2.8 for street and travel.  I also ordered a 56mm f/1.2.  My current main equipment consists of a Nikon D750 and a variety of lenses covering 15mm - 600mm.  I am happy with the D750, but it is too big and conspicuous for street. And to just grab and stick in a jacket pocket.

I am looking forward to shooting with the XP2 and learning the ins and outs of the Fuji X system.

I experienced this error today with version 1.0. Tonight I did the update.

Background: had a studio shoot today with two models that totaled approximately 45 minutes. Lens was 35mm f2. Fast cards. Saved RAW and jpeg to same card (changed that tonight to save to separate cards). The total image count was 1080, so that should have been 540 shutter activations. It was set for single shots. Pre focus off. Face detection on

The error message first appeared after about 30 minutes, then happened twice more before the end of the session. Used a Paul C. Buff trigger for an Alienbee (worked great). Noticed that when the first error message appeared the camera was definitely warm on the bottom plate. Camera remained warm for the remainder of the time.

The was no problem restarting the camera, but the shooting flow was certainly interrupted.

Camera s/n 61A0xxx It was delivered the day of release in the USA.

This shoot was an unexpected opportunity. I'm in the process of moving and my Nikon gear is in storage. Had it been a pre-planned session, I would have used the D750. The Fuji was intended for the trip and in that setting it performed as expected.

What I was told by Fuji Repair when I called about this was it was probably a lens mount problem.  I trust the person who told me this because he has repaired two cameras for me.  I was told on both bodies I purchased that it would be easier just to send it back to the merchant for a replacement.  I just got #3 out of the box so I guess I will find out soon.  I rarely take more than 20-30 photos on any outing so it may be a few days before it shows up.  On the first one I think I had it for about 3 days before I got the error message.  On the second one it was within the first 20 frames.  I did a portrait job recently and took approximately 40-50 shots.  I'm just mystified how people shoot 2000 frames and have time to look at them all.  If I have a problem with this one it is going in for a lens mount replacement.  And I will really be upset....

I have updated the OP since there are more confirmations of the "turn off/turn on" issue. Every report I've seen so far speaks of a hardware cause.

All people that have updated to the latest firmware, please confirm that the reset feature has been solved, so we can move it to the "fixed" section. Also please check if other "minor" issues such as occassional overheating have been solved or decreased.

    Thanks all!

I am on my second X-Pro2 now having replaced the first one. They both have the turn on/off issue. I have read threads where other people had their camera replaced and the issue persisted. I'm beginning to believe they all have this issue. Some people have returned or contacted Fuji about the problem and their response so far has been that the camera needs to be sent in for repairs because it's likely a hardware issue with the lens mount. One person sent theirs into Fuji France and they said that it was the first time they've seen the problem and didn't yet have the parts available to fix it. If you get your camera replaced and it doesn't have this issue, I'd love to hear about it as everything else I've read seems to suggest they all have this issue.

I've shot one full wedding (about 1500 images) and a few portrait sessions with the Xpro2 as well as playing around with it a ton since I got it day one. I haven't had this issue one time. I know that it's a issue for some of you but just wanted to give a heads up that I think it might be a batch not all the cameras. For reference tracking this my serial number starts with 61A0

Yes brianmilo, LCE is where I bought it and they had one in stock to swap with my other one...they initially said it would need to be sent off to Fuji to be fixed but I wasn't too happy with that given that it's two weeks old, so they were more than happy to swap it.

That's a shame bffmike, maybe they do all have it. I too have read of people that have had a replacement but still had the issue. I took 1,000 frames today without any problems and another 300 with flash without any trouble (I'm not normally that prolific with my images but thought it wouldn't hurt to see if the problem reared it's ugly head again), no problems yet. I had the issue about 100 shots with the very first camera, and then again at regular 200 or so shot intervals so I'm hoping it may be gone with this one, but having said that it seems that the frequency of the issue varies from camera to camera...some people get it loads and others have had it just the once.

I wonder, if it is a problem with every camera, what Fuji will do about it. Could be pretty big if it's all hardware problems. Anyway, for now, I'm keeping my fingers crossed for my current one!
