X-T1 FW 4.0 BETA: I have it and share my findings soon ;)

there is a important difference between providing “ kaizen" and committing “ seppuku", that difference implies that you might want to please customers ( Kaizen) while trying to avoid killing yourself ( Seppuku) in the process. If you would provide the same performance of the new model to the old camera that is exactly what you will be doing. Again, this shows, time and time again, that this way to the kaizen approach has been causing a wave of unreasonable expectations among many western customers and will be, down the line, causing more hostility among those who, periodically ( with the introduction of every new camera featuring capabilities mostly due to new software ) who will feel ( for no good reason) “ left out” if their old-er camera is not matching the new-er ones. It is already clear that the move to the new camera and software caused such a stir that Fujifilm France had to intervene with a declaration of intent to cool down the riot which was brewing among those who were gathering around with pitchforks, feathers and tar. However the declaration stayed well away from simply stating “ we are going to provide you with the same firmware as the X-T10 ( which they did say for the X-T1 from the start ...) ” but made general promises of improvement and never talked of a timeline to when they will be delivered. This alone talks volumes to me. Meanwhile, I am quite sure that , at Fuji’s headquarters, meetings are being held, to face this ( methinks!) unexpected bump in the road. The declaration of intent is out there, what it REALLY means remains to be seen. -

Yes,PatrickB, it is called consumerism. Guilty as charged! Put a new model out there and replace the older one. Hope that some older model owners will switch to the newer one. Years ago you could buy one camera and use it for the rest of your life without ever needing another one. Differentiating by slowing down innovation of an older model when introducing a new one is a basic concept in marketing. Are you listening what Fuji-Rumors admin is saying, “ a nice kaizen (the same?I doubt it! ) in about half a year” this means, methinks, that whatever comes that late wan’t be of the same magnitude as the 4.0 firmware and that, by that time, the XE-1 in stock will be all sold, the XE-2 will become the new model on the way out together with the X-Pro 1 X-Pro 1 are now sold at a pittance in a kit with 18mm and 27mm ( + leather cases for camera and lenses) Some folks like them enough to buy the camera and sell the lenses ( masses of them start appearing for sale) and try to sell the lenses for almost the price of the whole kit. -

Happy customers and competing with yourself ( because then no XE-2 owners would buy a X-T10) don’t get along. Providing equal performance to the two competing cameras is a commercial oxymoron and I doubt they are prone to be oxy-morons. But maybe they are. Wait, keep on waiting, wait , and wait, and wait. -

and bring it to the same level of the X-T10? I really would like to understand the rationale of that! They already cost the same in the shops here and no one is buying any X-E2 anymore! -

Very well done! No need to haste into unknown territory especially because, since internet has little to nothing that is really “ free” anymore, viruses affecting a device which dialogues with your phone or other devices ha potential major implications. Better safe than sorry is the word. -

Announcing the release of a freebie firmware update has nothing to do with the promise of continuous a lifelong and imperiture updating which some folks are now unreasonably expecting for all models simply because it could theoretically be done ( and they want it even if it cannot be done as in the X pro 1 and X-E1!) At some point all models need being surpassed by a newer model, this is as true of a camera as it is of a car. You might very well chose not to update the camera but to expect that Fuji will squeeze new firmware for years and years out of the money that you’ve paid only once is a foolish idea. I am not waiting because I am scared that my camera will explode. It won’t! But I don’t see any problem in doing so. The camera that I bought works just fine as it was meant to, when there will be a new firmware I will install it. One day there won’t be a new firmware but a newer model. So be it. -

All of this reminds me the Queen’s song. “ I want it all! I want it all and I want it now!" I understand that, at least for some folks here, the anticipation of the new firmware update is burning the candle of their patience at both ends, but waiting shouldn’t be all that difficult! After all we all bought a great camera without all the new things and gladly used it for some time , so what’s the problem in waiting a few days more? Just use the camera as you always did and be happy! There will be plenty of bugs to talk about after the official release so why wasting time on a pre-release version containing the theoretical possibility that if something malfunctions your guarantee might not be honored? On the subject of the “ I want it all” part of the song, which refers to the fact that as soon as Fuji announced the upgrade for later models, some owners of the X-E2 immediately started wailing but some even felt they could reasonably find reasons to be hostile towards their previously beloved Fuji, menacing to immediately part with their camera if they hadn’t received what was rightfully theirs! So, these reactions show how the psychology of the non Japanese Fuji buyer works as opposed to the Japanese way of doing marketing. As I wrote somewhere else on this forum, this will be, in years to come, an interesting case study which will be the object of much discussions in marketing and psychology courses. It is a generally accepted norm that customer’s expectations need being exceeded to create that pleasant feeling of being welcomed and valued but once the customer's have been fed this extraordinary new idea of “ continuous improvement" ( the famous Kaizen, which most now think of as an imperiture promise) this Japanese sword ( an extraordinary Japanese marketing Katana) reveals itself to be a double edged one but one that unusually cuts both ways ( Katanas are normally single edged swords), creating hostility within the excluded group which feels left out and short changed ( although there is no previous tradition or promise to a never ending improvement extending for years!). Peculiar! But such is the mind of the western customer! -

My Jill.E model Jack ( messenger, size large) has a very large compartment fit for a 15” laptop which would be able to carry a lot of A4 paper or a laptop and some paper. -

in this video, the X-T10, with that software, has a very much improved result with the slowest of the X lenses so, yes, it does! 60mm 35mm -

so..., just back from holiday and since I haven’t partaken to the feeding frenzy of the Beta version ( Fuji own words!) ... are we there yet? The official release would be, If I remember well, today or tomorrow? Curing bugs before releasing might be causing some delays, after all, beta versions are there to be tested. Anyone in the know of when will we have the final version? -

the Jill.E design model Jack Camera Messenger (small) should be giving you all you need (I needed the large version) -
Iko, aside from turning the lens there is no other function to the adjusting screws, they are there for you to adjust the topside of the lens between adapter and camera.

I suppose the Rain Cape would be a decent alternative for people who don’t have this option.

Cheers, there is nothing wrong with saving money these days! The Zenith E was my first 35mm camera ( Before I had used my fathers’s Voigtländer Bessa 6 x9 and a Diana Flash ( plastic) 6 x 6 ) and this one you have is one of the newest. If the lens is clean it is gonna perform well and cheaply for all your portraits.
