  2. I understand the lack of internet and in fact I did mention that that was a possible factor in determining my perception but I was into quite a network of pro-photographers and worked at trade fairs ( with tens of thousands of visitors) for both Pentax and Nikon and yet never heard too many complaints.
  3. Indeed. Looks more common than previously anticipated. At first I would have thought it was something due to a very localized or specific cause: like keeping the camera in the sun or subject the camera to some heavy push-pulling ( as I suspect happens if you use a sling or a wrist strap ). But the fact that these reports (most about the doors but I suppose that that is the first area where problems happen) are beginning to surface more and more, as the cameras age, it probably means that there is more to it than just a freaky occurrence . PatrickFR, one of the administrators of this forum, reported yesterday a bulging of his left door just starting and the fact that he had contacted Fuji both anonymously and then in his capacity as Fuji-x-forum.com administrator ( which should mean some more leverage) and he was only given the possibility to replace the cover but no explanation about what it is going on. I suspect that this will be the general company attitude throughout the world as long as these cases stay within single digit percentages ( which I suspect this still is ). Only if this would assume a pandemic state we would then see a “ recall”which I personally think would be a nightmare because the sheer amount of cameras which will go to the laboratories will be such that they will be engulfed with work for months. Fuji's attitude, I am afraid, is, until now, not very talkative, to say the least. But that is not uncommon. My brother had a similar problem with Rover cars ( when they still existed), his car was brought in for a regular service and then he was told that something had to be replaced. They held the car and replaced something at the front of the car but refused (!) to say what it was that they had replaced. My brother was alarmed and asked his lawyers to send a letter requesting formally an official explanation of what it was that was changed and why and they declined. He never heard what was wrong with his car which required something to be replaced ( and that if hadn’t been spotted, could have been potentially dangerous, he imagined). We shall see.
  4. From the second half of the '80 onwards there were many AF cameras and electric lenses and yes we shot less but there were many more cameras around that there are now and it seems to me that there were less complaints, but I can’t say for sure.
  5. One thing strikes me and I have been thinking about this for a while. I read many comments about faulty fuji lenses ( i suppose that other brands have that kind of problem too, I don’t partake to other sites ), yet the Fuji lens assembly looks first class. I wonder if we just know more about problems due to internet exposing these things or if standards have fallen because from the ’70 to the late ’90 I don’t remember having ever heard of so many problems.
  6. well, today there were several reports of problems with the X-T1 too, so this is not limited to OP’s X-Pro-1 and obviously something is triggering this more with some camera than with others.
  7. Obviously yes...
  8. great minds... .. think alike!
  9. wow, today everybody is reporting strange things happening this other member also reported the same ailment! http://www.fuji-x-forum.com/topic/996-fuji-x-t1-rubber-surface/ Aki-Asahi makes some custom replacements but they don’t seem to have ever made any for X-T1 and any successors but you should be alright with your X-Pro-1 ( they have plenty!) http://aki-asahi.com/store/ Of course be aware of the fact that replacing the skin automatically voids your guarantee! Fuji UK does provide custom skins ( keeping the guarantee) for new or used cameras but they charge you a premium for the privilege. http://shop.fujifilm.co.uk/accessories/x-signature-skins However this doesn’t YET include the X-T1 but it does include your X-Pro-1
  10. Strange that you didn’t get an answer from your German Fuji lab. As I wrote in my answer to the member who reported the entire plastic protection coming lose, in my experience, the Japanese seem (and in many other Asian cultures in general) to have a problem in answering questions where they don’t know the answer of there is bad news to be told or they have to say “ NO” to a direct question. It is , I suppose, a cultural thing but one which makes communication some time a bit more complicated than it should be.
  11. alright, this is quite a problem! Someone else in another thread has reported the entire plastic protection coming off! Since you, Patrick, seem to be in a better speaking terms than most of us with Fuji, what is it that they are saying about this?
  12. very nice, I particularly appreciated the factual part of the list while I have some reservations on the “ comments” some of which are clearly based on hearsay or a debatable opinion ( there are other opinions out there opposed to the quoted ones).
  13. Well, Dunky, it is hardly surprising that Fuji is not making a very big deal of this because, although some people report similar problems involving the doors changing shape so on http://www.fuji-x-forum.com/topic/634-x-t1-accessory-door/?hl=%2Bfuji+%2Bx-t1+%2Bdoor, this is thing that is happening to you and your camera but, as far as I know, it doesn’t appear to be a general problem or we would hear a lot more of this and that, if I am not mistaken, is not the case. In actual fact, this is the first time that I read of the whole plastic protection coming off the entire camera. If, as I suspect, this is not a general problem, what do you want them to say to you? They are probably just as baffled as you are and short of sending a team of investigators to see why your camera has shown this problem, if they have not heard from others reporting it, they probably have no clue about why this happens. So, I think, their response to you is : "we are going to repair your camera”. My experience with the Japanese ( and in general most of the other Asian culture) is their lack of response when it comes to question that cannot be answered. Let alone answering with a straight “ NO” to any direct question. Years ago I had a series of problems with Horseman cameras ( large format) it took me a real long time to get them to respond to me. As for the specific problem. Could it be that there is something in the environment where you use the camera or the way that you use the camera to produce this not generally experienced effect?
  14. well, if this is norm then all cameras should show it.
  15. I was talking of pictures of the particles not of the particles on the sensor. However. Mysterious Indeed! Metal particles would likely come from somewhere, being the lens, an adapter or, but this looks impossible to me, from the camera itself. Very strange.
  16. unfortunately your link is dead (it says page not found)
  17. Yes Antony, this is precisely the object of another thread that I’ve started on using the kipon in order to be more versatile http://www.fuji-x-forum.com/topic/866-kipon-tilt-adapter-would-you-please-show-some-of-your-images/?hl=%2Bkipon+%2Btilt
  18. I am the OP. No you cannot shoot in raw to use the in-camera miniature effect, the camera only shoots jpeg’s with all those effects.
  19. Obviously you haven’t noticed that I have given examples of both and the fact that I own a kipon adapter. If you are doing this only for fun and incidentally and the effect is what I’ve shown above, an effect for which you need not spending a penny since this is a feature built in your camera you might not invest in yet more gear ( I know that is not your problem, but other folks are not like you). Obviously, as you can see from the examples given above, I do infer that the kipon is a better and more versatile solution but it costs more money. So, That’s why.
  20. I had the sensor cleaned ( for free) by Fuji when I had my X-E1 and the experience was terrible because it took 8 weeks to ship it to the lab in Germany since we don’t have one in the NL, ( the shop gave me a X-M1 while I was waiting) and it came back with a hair trapped onto the sensor! Has anyone had any experience with the sensor cleaning gel sticks? There seem to be several types out there. Somehow I like the idea of this better than other systems. Here is a video that I’ve found on youtube @https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wxKb_OqV7ng
  21. So what is the just released X-E2 firmware about? Does it really only support compatibility with Windows 10? http://www.fujifilm.com/support/digital_cameras/software/firmware/x/xe2/index.html Could it be only this? I find this hard to believe and I predict angry disappointment among those who were waiting for the X-E2 to be updates as much as the rest of the top models, if the mountain will reveal to have labored and brought forth a mouse! In that case I suppose this is NOT the last firmware that is going to update the X-E2 and certainly not what is getting this camera any “ closer” to the more modern camera’s in the system! We shall see what the “ other” release will give us since the Rumors are that later on in the year more cameras will get some firmware download ( so maybe there is more to come also for the X-E2... ) Coming by the end of Dec 2015 X-E1, X-M1, X-A1, X100, X10, XQ1, XF1, X-S1 F1000EXR, F900EXR, F850EXR, F820EXR, F800EXR, F770EXR, F750EXR, F660EXR, F600EXR, F550EXR, F500EXR, F300EXR, F80EXR, HS50EXR, HS35EXR, HS30EXR, HS25EXR, HS20EXR, Z2000EXR, Z1100EXR, Z1000EXR, Z950EXR, Z900EXR, Z800EXR, Z700EXR, JZ500, JZ300 and REAL 3D W3
  22. Apparently we just got a “ Classified” section and it is operating already . So, after a post by the Admin who, I suppose, created that section, there is already the first ad already there. It appears to operate very easily http://www.fuji-x-forum.com/index.php?app=classifieds&module=listing&do=cat There are 3 main sections for camera lenses and accessories We can attach pictures (very important!) Decide on the currency ( three options € $ £) An whether is a Wanted or For sale advert. There are no restrictions that I can see for placing an ad ( length of membership or number of posts). So, I suppose this answers your question. Good luck to all with buying and selling.
  23. Hello Joerg, welcome to the fuji-x-forum, there are other specific threads on this forum already on the 60mm macro, also with examples, and perhaps it would have been better to continue one of those already ( I am a staunch defender of using the search function on any forum) in order to stay to the point while not spreading information even thinner for future reference when someone else wanting to know something on the 60mm macro will have many threads to chose from and read instead od a more compact source of information. However, you have opened another one so we might as well have this discussion here. Of course the 56 does has a slightly more evident “ bokeh” ( I never cease to marvel at the fact that when I started photography not only this word didn’t exist, at least not applied to photography, but generally no one would have chosen a lens based on its quality of image in the parts that aren’t sharp). Whether this is more or less creamy, I don’t know. It is a matter of personal taste. I made the conscious choice, at the time, to not buy the 56mm and preferred to buy the 60mm. Part of my decision was economically driven, the 60mm back then was even more expensive than it is now, was 40% cheaper than the 56mm. But the 60mm was very sharp ( where it is) had a nice “ bokeh” ( where it is not), allows you to get fairly close ( some argue that 1:2 reproduction ratio doesn’t qualify as “ macro” while it is plenty close for me) and it is very light. The lens, it has to be said, is not a speed monster, but neither am I. For any type of picture for which I would want to use this lens I am not likely to want to focus incredibly rapidly. Initial negative comments on this lens were based on its use on the X-Pro-1 and X-E1, both cameras have a different sensor X-Trans-CMos instead of X-Trans-CMos II and processor, EXR instead of EXR II . With the new firmware there has been some small improvement with the performance of old lenses too and some debate whether this has affected positively the 60mm too. I found that it is not so much the speed which became any better ( because the motor runs at the same maximum speed) but the accuracy has slightly improved ( with the exception of low light low contrast subjects). But probably the 56mm would perform better than the 60 in terms of focussing speed but I find that the 60mm is absolutely NOT as bad as some folks say ( but they might have different expectations).
  24. 40mm should fit, however I have a different solution for this problem.. I have a lens hood LX-JX10 which splits into two pieces, one is the so called filter adapter ( which allows a filter to be screwed in, but I don’t do that) and the other one is the lens hood which goes around it. There are many like this look for the one which suits you the best. http://www.amazon.com/Professional-Replacement-LH-JX10-adapter-Black/dp/B006CFKTP8 The filter adapter screws on the lens then, on this adapter you can screw on a filter and around it the lens cap. Then, instead of dismounting the lens hood every time ( and misplacing it until one day it will be lost) I simply bought a 58mm pinch lens cap and for less than €10, you have everything you need! So I no longer use the original lens cap.
  25. Can you include some photos to show these? It will help a lot. Maybe these two posts might have a relation to one another?
