Lens Firmware

Hello everyone, 

This may be a dumb question but I have an X-T1 and I absolutely love it! I have noticed a big difference with the recent 4.0 firmware but my question is: Do I need to update lens firmware? I was confused when I was reviewing their firmware site. I didn't know if the lens firmware versions were included in the 4.0 update or if I needed to manually install firmware for my given lenses. Does anybody know the answer to that?

To my understanding you have to update them separately.  At least I had to when I updated to 3.0 FW because I also had to update my lens FW to it's current version after doing so.

You need to update the lens firmware separately, however there have not been any lens updates since the FW4.0 came out so you don't need to worry about that.

I’ve helped a friend yesterday with installing his firmware on his NEW camera.

 

After installing the camera firmware version 4.0, his 18-55mm firmware was still one version prior to the last (we checked it) and so we upgraded the software of the lens, separately too.

 

Upgrading the body firmware doesn’t ( necessarily) upgrade the lens firmware.

The firmware is easy to check on your lens, and you have nothing to lose by just checking to see if they are current.  Like Milandro's friend, I discovered that my 18-55 was in an older firmware as well when I upgraded to the 3.0 FW.

 

Never know how long that box with your lens was sitting on their shelf.
