Hey Guys,

I recently bought an Xpro2 and I only have a few days left to return the camera.

I have been taking more pics the last few days and have noticed a few quirks that have me really concerned, and I would like to know if these are common problems.

Firstly, I shot for a few hours yesterday and the camera started locking up.  The back LCD went blank and the camera was unresponsive.  I had to remove the battery for the camera to start up.  Once the camera was powered on, it worked fine, but if I powered the camera off and turned it back on, the camera again was unresponsive.  The only fix for this was to remove the battery.

Lastly, trying to turn on the Wifi function totally locks up the camera and again the only remedy for this is removing the battery.

I have tried resetting the camera and have updated to the latest firmware.

Any help regarding this would be greatly welcomed.

Tuan

Well misery loves company I guess. I brought mine in for service and I have the feeling that nothing at all was done.I just wrote this for another forum,,, it pretty much sums up my rising disappointment leve

60 Days ago today, I purchased an XPro2 from B&H along with the 10-24mm zoom. I do real estate photography and I was looking forward to that new piece of glass making my life a little easier. I've had the X series right from the start: The X100, XE1, XE2, XT1 and now the XPro2 and I still own them all. Coming from film, it felt like the most natural progression for me. I like the fact that FUJI honors it's customers by continuing with firmware updates and support.

I had read about the XPro2 reset issue but I also knew that it would be addressed fairly rapidly and so didn't hesitate to make the purchase. A firmware release was made and it looked as if it took care of the issue as it had started happening everyday with mine. Several weeks went by. During that time, my camera would freeze occasionally or if I neglected to remove the USB cable after a transfer fairly quickly, that too would precipitate a freeze.Unfortunately the freezing and resetting issue continued on and left me feeling disappointed with FUJI. Last Thursday I drove to FUJI in Edison New Jersey and left it for warranty service. After 4 business days I got a phone call asking me to return and pick up my camera. Before I went to get it, I wrote a short email to B&H Customer Service where I had purchased  it from, explaining what had been going on. I informed them that I knew it was past the 30 day return and I did not expect them to take the camera back. I was hoping for some "consideration" if and when I decided to sell the camera or if I decided to order the XT2. The response I got back was wonderful. I was told that even though it would be 60 days, based on the amount of gear I have purchased with them, they would extend a one time courtesy and accept the camera back. I thought about it but decided against giving up on the XPro2 just yet. I would wait until I had received back the XPro 2 and had a chance to see what Fuji would do. I just really love the form factor of that camera and the images it helps me make.

I picked up the body yesterday and when I could see no notes as to what had been done, I asked to speak with the tech. Unfortunately, due to a language issue, I was unable to understand what the tech had done. I was told repeatedly that "it's fixed, it's fixed and if I still had a problem, I could bring it back. I left Edison feeling somewhat frustrated. On the way back to my place, I stopped to make some images of a house for my work. No sooner had I put in a fresh battery, then the camera froze. Fortunately I had my XT1 with me and was able to complete the assignment. Later on after cycling though another battery, the XPro 2 reset itself again.

I've looked online for others having this recurring issue and haven't found anything. Now I am at a loss to decide what to do. I'm sure if I make a big enough stink FUJI will replace it but, how am I to feel about this piece of gear or the service it received?

Thank you for letting me vent even if you don't run this. I just wanted to write it down and hope that maybe someone else out there is becoming as frustrated as I am and has had a favorable outcome.

Sorry to hear about your case and very decent of B&H. Most people would advise you to return it to B&H.

Thankfully, my Pro2 hasn't develop this issue.

I've dealt with Canon, Nikon and Fujifilm on more occasions than I can count. My experience with them is about the same. You got to keep going back and explain, explain and explain to them the issue. Eventually, they will get to the root of the problem and come to a fix/solution. Don't give up, if this is what you choose to do.

For Fujifilm, I was glad they serviced and cleaned my out of warrantee xf18 for free.

For Nikon, they've decided to look into an unusual AF issue of a 4 year old D7000, sent back to Japan to have it investigated. All for free. As I write, I'm still waiting for the camera.

For Canon, they've serviced, recalibrated and repaired ALL of the equipment I sent in. It didn't natter if it was out of warrantee, discontinued or grey product. Most times, they do a decent job. A few were superbly carried out.

So, the choice is yours really.

My X-Pro2 freezes, too, though I've decided to live with it because I can avoid the problem. So not as serious as that of zenmartini.

My story: I picked up an x-pro2 and three lenses (16, 18-55, 50-230) a few months back. A more pack-able travel alternative to a Nikon (currently a D800e).

Two weeks in I sent it to Fuji as the camera bricked on pc auto save. Not that I needed this function, never had it before (the more useful wifi-to-iphone function does work, curiously), but I figured this was the time to address the problem. Two thousand Canadian should get you something that works 100%, no? And a thought popped in, you're gonna travel with this camera, rely on it, maybe there is something else wrong with it.

Three weeks later it's back from Fuji service. They've done nothing, and they claim there is no problem.

Yes, I still have the problem.

I wrote Fuji. They replied, offered to ship it back and look at it again.

I decided to drop it. I'm bored with the whole thing, bored with Fuji service, bored with trying to decide whether to pursue it or not. Perhaps I should have returned it to the store at the first indication of a problem? As I said, the problem is not urgent.  One upside: the desire to put more Fuji in my shopping cart is gone. Not sure if this is a permanent or temporary condition, though.

Funny thing, I joked to the Fuji tech that maybe the camera needs to travel to find wifi it likes. Lo and behold, upon returning from a short trip to the US I found the wifi sometimes gets one step further in the pc-auto-save process. It sees SSIDs! Sometimes. It still hangs, 100% of the time, but it has almost worked.

I'm heading to Europe shortly, perhaps that will fix it.

Lovely lenses, though.

very rare, but I get that as well.

again, it's so rare, it's not enough to bug me.

my personal experience experience any kind of lock up or freeze of the cameras.

a) setting up connection to smart phone ap or when I try to connect to Instax Share printer. most of the time it's uneventful, but I think if I do something slightly out of sequence or too hasty in control of either and don't excercise some patience when using, it can freee up and require battery removal.

B) turn on and off and back on really fast.. it will not turn on. I thought the last firmware was supposed to have addressed and fixed this, but apparently not. I'm wondering if it has to do with the sensor cleaning performed when the camera is shutting off or on? I have to check, but I think you can set it to sensor clean when turned on only, sensor clean when turned off only, sensor clean when on and off, or not sensor cleaning.. maybe if I turned off the sensor cleaning and tried, it may not lockup up or be unresponsive when turning on off & on again very fast?

I too have experienced the issue. I currently have 3 X Pro 2s. Long story short I had issues with the infamous 'Turn the camera off/on' error, for which Fuji replaced the cameras as they had only been out of the box for a couple of days. Now, several months down the line, 2 of the bodies are fine but one has started freezing over the last 3 weeks or so.

I'm unsure what triggers this, but it essentially locks up. I'm tempted to try a faster card in it and see if that helps but my gut tells me it won't make any difference. I'm also considering reinstalling the firmware to see if that solves the problem. In the likely event that this doesn't make any difference, I'll try to video it having the error and send it off to see what can be done. I previously had an XT1 that was freezing up and it was the PCB. Fuji repaired this and it now works fine.

I love these cameras to bits but...I wish they'd just do their job!

I sent an email to FUJI about the failed repair and got one back telling me to call the Pro camera number in Edison. Spoke with Steve S. who listened to my story and he said before they do anything, I should video the camera when it happens again.

Because, the camera checked out when it was in the shop the first time. I got off the phone and removed the FUJI battery and put a freshly charged FUJI battery in and it reset immediately.  I had the video rolling from the start of the process and
put that in an email to Steve S. The next day we spoke on the phone and he said he would pay the Fed Ex charge to bring it back to Edison. I said no bother as I would drive it. Two days later I had my camera back and have no problems with

freezes or resets whatsoever. Seems that the internal battery/capacitor needed replacing. I'm learning to love it again.

Now if I could just get my Domke bag back from Tiffen. One of the dividers had lost some stitching and I just wanted a replacement for it as the bag was just fine. Nope, got to send the whole thing back. They are sending me a brand new bag.

They wouldn't send it until they received the old one back. That's not great service as what am I supposed to do with all the unnecessary crap I keep in the bag? 10 days and still waiting. But my X Pro 2 is working fine so woohoo.

    • Perhaps matrix/evaluative metering mode would be a better choice in more circumstances. We need to be aware of how the camera will see the scene and choices it might make, I find having the viewfinder set to "exposure preview" or whatever it's called is helpful in knowing when to apply exposure compensation.
    • This is what I found on a firmware update that seems to address the problem. However, firmware version is at Ver. 211 already. As stated above this occurrence only happens using the EVF and at apertures between f2.0 and 3.6. It does not happen using the OVF or LCD. The firmware update Ver.2.11 from Ver.2.10 incorporates the following issue: The phenomenon is fixed that when pressing the shutter button halfway under certain conditions, the live view can flicker.
    • Hi! Thanks for this comment! Yes, although I'm utterly happy with my X-T50, small, light, sharp pictures, Xapp functioning, I've got to know that the camera tends to emphasize contrast in contrasty scenes. In a way this is strange to me, as X-T50 mostly exposes very well. This is especially expected with photos with foliage. Of course, I would like that the behaviour would be different. When I'm taking travel and such pictures I choose for JPG format (not HEIC, as Mac's Photos opens them oddly very slowly; iPhone's HEICs open fast ...). With JPG I've chosen to use the DR400 setting, but the problem is still there. For "more important" photos I of course use the RAW format. Regards, T.
    • Congrats on your Fuji! Since the receipt is in your relative’s name, they’re technically the original owner for warranty purposes. Some manufacturers, including Fuji UK, may allow a warranty transfer if you contact them and explain it was a gift. You could either ask your relative to make any initial claim, or reach out to Fuji to register it under your name as the recipient of a custom gift. Since it hasn’t been registered yet, it’s a good time to check with them.
    • Hi Dolores! 👋 Nice to meet you. I’m pretty new around here and just starting to dive deeper into the Fuji world, so it’s really cool to hear about your journey through all those cameras! How are you liking the X-T4 compared to the X-T2? I’ve been thinking about upgrading at some point and would love to hear your thoughts.
