Help/advice about Fujinon 90mm

Hi all,

 

A few days ago purchased the Fujinon 90mm f2; looks a very nice piece of glass as documented.

However, today during my first serious acquaintance with the lens I see that as the lens is tilting front to back something inside is respectively dangling freely back-forth. It is located about a bit front of the center of the lens barrel the movement is of several mm and makes a gentle/low bumping noise. I can see the move through the lens glass and looks like it is a lens element because the magnification of the opening circle (the diameter) when moving slightly changes.

When I mount the lens on the XT-1 it keeps doing the same dangling when camera is OFF, BUT when the camera is turned ON it stops and from this moment nothing is moving. It is solid. The lens AF works OK.

 

I think this is not normal, even though the lens seems to work now (but do not know how long it will last).  So I would appreciate any piece of advice could get on this situation. Unfortunately the lens was not purchased from a store near to me but a relatively big European e-shop through mail.

Well, mine does exactly the same. I suspect it is part of the focusing mechanism. I have had other lenses (Nikon) doing something similar, so I'm not worried.

Sounds strange so much wobbling ( I own 3 other Fujinons and are rock solid) but it is OK. Just found a good description of this here: http://admiringlight.com/blog/review-fujifilm-fujinon-xf-90mm-f2-r-lm-wr/

Yup, that's normal.  I know it feels weird, but was expecting it from all the reviews I've read on the lens.

Wasn't this already discussed on previous thread about that lens ? Or am I have a some weird form of "déjà vu" ?

Yep, @darknj, you aren’t seeing double. This has already being discussed at least once.

Although there is no compulsion on this board to do so and the management doesn’t even frown upon opening a thread for one picture only, checking the search function before opening threads might be a good idea, simply to keep information relevant and at hand.

 

If this is diluted among many threads it becomes more difficult for all to access all of the collective wisdom.

Milandro, thanks for the link. There's been some debate around this issue in the net including other brands using same technology too.

 

Search function is a fine idea in most cases (especially when you have the time and calmness...).

I don’t suppose that writing on a forum is an activity done in a hurry   anyway, many on all manners of sites do that of starting threads without checking whether there is one not another thread on any particular matter, the reasons are various and I am not going to say that one does anything wrong because this forum doesn’t have anything in the rules saying that you shouldn’t.

 

It’s only a matter of common sense to not spread information thin among every time a new thread. Even if you are not the initiator of any thread, your post will be seen, not only: the people whom had been answering before will probably be alerted ( I have an automatic alert to any thread I have partaken). and you have more chance to get a response that way than otherwise.

Oh no worries at all ! It was just something on my side, I wasn't certain if it was related to the same lens or if it was about another lens.

 

But yeah, whatever was said about it already :]
