Paul, I thought it was worth mentioning I recently purchased a Panasonic LX100 (mostly for video, but also as a light travel camera) and the menus work the same way. In EVF only, the menus and playback are both in the EVF. It appears this is a cross-brand adoption and we will have to adapt. I'm getting more used to it, but still prefer the old way.

Hi Nick,  I've acquired an X100s.

Fuji cameras don't last very long for me, I've been through 8 since the introduction of the X series, each lasting on average 9 months.

Once this S reaches the end of its useful life, probably by September or October this year, I will reconsider my options.

I remain loyal to brands for only as long as they remain loyal to me.

As it is obvious that Fuji have made the change and are unlikely to backtrack, I will bid everybody best wishes for the future, and quietly withdraw from this forum.  It's been nice meeting you all, but my continued presence here seems a waste of time now that Fuji have changed in a way that is unacceptable to me, and probably many others who wear glasses.

Once the X100s dies I'll put a pancake lens on a light SLR and will have a viewfinder for taking photos and the LCD for viewing the menu.

Best wishes to you all :)

Wow

seriously is this guy still going on about this "non problem"

I am using the XPRO 2  and have no problem with this whatsoever

People do not be put off by this it really is a non issue

The fuji cameras are not the same as ALL cameras

They are Fuji and Fuji design them as they see fit

If you want something different buy something different

It is a non-issue only if you aren't affected by it. I don't really mind the current settings, but I see no downside to having this camera behaviour customisable. In fact I would like to have the option of setting different viewfinder-lcd behaviours for the Q-menu and the normal menu. This would be a fine upgrade to add to the next firmware update ^_^
