I sent in my Fujifilm Flash for repair last week and they called me 2 days after they received my flash.

My flash unit had a broken lock on it's battery door, all is functional and nothing else is wrong with it. Heck I have been using it that way with a loose battery door - albeit I used rubber band and duck tape to keep it shut and it works just fine.

So they called me and say "it's going to cost me around $50 USD, for the repair".

Finding it kinda ridiculous because it's quite expensive, I asked the break down for it.

Then they explained:

Around $10 for the door.

Around $40 for the "service".

I was like ?! - I asked them if I could just buy off the battery door and I can easily replace it myself and they said they dont sell spareparts. Wow thats it bye bye Fuji Flash Im gonna buy that Nissin now!

or you could try to get in touch with the Japanese side ( head office don’t bother with anything else) talk about the loss of honor and face for a Fuji product and they could either gently nudge the Indonesian side into sense or alternatively, send it to you! Try!  ;)

This needs an illustration.

Exhibit A: "Japanese manager is about to give a gentle nudge to subsidiary representative for losing face and honor"

 perhaps not such a radical solution but several years ago I had a little problem with a wooden Horseman camera which I bought.

The camera was not capable to reach all the movement specified in the advertising material. Since I was already a long time Horseman user ( L 45 studio camera) , I wrote to the company and appealed to their sense of honor and customer’s satisfaction.

They responded with getting the camera back at their expense, fixing it to reach the promised movements, added two spirit levels at my request, made me a full member of the Horseman photographic society ( still have the certificate) and all at no cost whatsoever.

Japanese do take these matters very seriously, sometimes! B)

That sounds like a great idea - I would probably get in touch to their Japan HQ and see if they will do anything about it.

Also sent myXT-1 for repair and its covered under warranty but they are still charging me for the bent rubber port door - but since its going to cost me around $5 I didnt bother about it much..
