  1. Nothing is perfect and everything is a compromise so other brands and other FF cameras will have their own issues. For myself on my XT30, I've disabled the touch screen and the various function buttons so I can simply concentrate on exposure and composition. My only wish is, and a feature that I'd get a new camera for, is to be able to set a double or triple push requirement for the menu button.
  2. I suspect that Lightroom provides only the film simulations that are available in camera. I'm not being familiar with the GFX50, are bleach bypass and sepia available as in camera sims?
  3. I have an XT30 and it suits my needs as an all around performer, compact, but not so small that it gets lost in your hand, plus it has good image quality. Downside, if video is important is that it is recommended that clips be limited to 10 minutes in length, due to the camera overheating. Another consideration might be that if image stabilization is important to you, the XT30/XT30ii relied on OIS in the lens and the current kit lens the 16-50 zoom does not have OIS, but there are lots of the older 18-55's out there that has it. Have fun!
  4. You don't say what type of photography that you're pursuing, that makes a difference in recommendation. Another question is, what full frame equivalent are you interested in having? the XF 50 F2 is ~75mm FFE or a short telephoto and useable as a portrait lens.
  5. The reason most kit lenses are in the 18 to 50/70mm range is that it covers most of the types of photographs that are taken. Until you figure what what type of pictures you most enjoy taking, wildlife, landscape, street, macro etc, you probably should look for something in the 18-70mm range. That focal length is flexible and usually not too large.
  6. Given the number of professional photographers that I come across that use 10-12 year old equipment, waiting for the XT-6 that quite likely won't be any more functional than the XT-5. Pre-owned XT-5's are available for pretty good prices.
  7. You may want to consider renting the lens in the country that you'll be traveling in. Another suggestion, there are a number of photographers that lead photo tours in Africa, it would be fruitful to visit their websites and see what they recommend. From one I looked at, the recommendation was 2 camera bodies (a spare if one is damaged), and a 300 and 600mm lenses, with a quick aperture, say F2.8. The fast lens is recommended given that you'll be shooting in the early morning and at dusk when the animals are active. If you are taking a tour or working through a lodge, see what they recommend and also whether they might rent or otherwise provide the equipment. A friend spent 2 weeks in SA and Botswana and only needed to bring a bunch of memory cards. Also, don't forget a computer and two spare SSDs to backup your photos.
  8. IIRC, Kodachrome 64 was balanced for daytime light and if the recipe is attempting to faithfully reproduce K64, then the image colors will shift under different temps of light. You can modify the recipe and use Auto WB, if the recipe specifies WB, or make the change yourself in settings. Analog shooters working in other than daylight, use filters in front of the lens to adjust the light's temp before hitting the film. That isn't recommended for digital photography, but we can adj WB in camera or in post. Hope this helps.
  9. Not sure if this is what you are trying to achieve, but Sean Tucker has a video up on achieving the medium format look with an APSC sensor. It's complicated.
  10. It would be nice, but... Given that X-studio is using the camera for the processing, not the computer, the custom profiles would need to exist on all cameras.
  11. Before sending it in for a, possibly, unneeded repair, I'd suggest checking several reviews of that lens. Particularly from reviewers that are notorious pixel peepers, to see if others have the same complaint and have documented the results.
  12. What type of computer are you using? Apple upgraded Macs last month to Sequoia R15 and it broke X Raw Studio and the camera wouldn't connect. The issue has since been resolved and you can download the updated Studio at FF.
  13. Probably none, as FF is consumed with fixing the AF-C issues. Up grading to Sequoia is how I found out as well. FF isn't the only one with problems, I can't reach a network attached device using Chrome.
  14. Apple recently introduced R15, code named Sequoia. There is a compatibility issue with X Raw Studio that doesn’t allow the camera to link to the computer. FF is aware of the issue and has the advisory to not upgrade till FF creates a patch.
  15. I shoot about 40% of my photos with manual focus lenses, when you set the aperture on the lens, the sensor will determine the shutter speed if in auto exposure and if in auto ISO, it will adjust that as well.
  16. There have been an enormous number of complaints about auto focus continuous issues on newer Fuji cameras beginning a few up dates ago. The Fuji film Rumors comment section is rife with them.
  17. Thanks for the suggestions, I'll take a look at them.
  18. With the sudden death of my Chromebook, I have options beyond web based image processing apps and I'm looking for recommendations. I replaced the Chromebook with a Macbook Air. Initially thought I'd download Darktable, but Apple's walled garden had other ideas and I decided that I didn't want to fiddle with bypassing the Mac's security settings, so I'm looking for recommendations. To date, I've mostly used Snapseed (which I really like) and lived with the jpg only processing of Fuji files since the app doesn't recognize RAF files. I've also dabbled with Light Room's mobile app running on the Chromebook, but issues related to screen resolution and the LR app intended for phone and not laptop screens made it difficult to use. Given the Chromebook was far beyond receiving software updates, Adobe's web based version of Photoshop and LR wouldn't run. I also use X Pro Studio that I ran on an ancient Windows 7 machine and will load on the Mac. So I'm looking for recommendations. Strictly amateur use, with a focus on ease of use and low cost. Thoughts???
  19. I’ve read the same thing about the xpro 4
  20. I've been happy with the Rokinon 12mm F2 that I picked up used for under $200. I also have the TTArtisans 50mm F1.2 that I've been happy with. Neither lens is close to perfect with both suffering from a bit of vignetting and fall off on the edges. When wide open the 50mm focus is a bit soft in the center but sharp at 2.8. The build quality on both lenses is very good with the 50mm being aluminum while the 12mm is plastic. There are several reviews of these and other Chinese made manual focus lenses out on YouTube that are worth checking out.
  21. I'll second the recommendation on the 27mm F2.8 for street, that lens lives on my XT30. Two other lenses that I use on the street are, the TTartisans 50mm F1.2 and the Rockinon 12mm F2.0. Note both of these lenses are manual focus, that doesn't bother me as even on the 27 I usually zone focus.
  22. Added a Fuji weekly Tri-X film simulation to my XT30 and finding that after activating it from the Q menu, the settings for such things as Dynamic Range, Highlight, Shadow etc are persistent when I change to a different simulation, either in the Q menu or from settings. By default, the custom settings mirrored the the film simulations, so if want to switch to Classic Chrome, I could do that but also need find the custom setting that corresponded to CC. Any idea what I'm doing wrong?
  23. Resolved. User stupidity.
  24. I was trying to create add Fuji X Weekly's Kodachrome II simulation through X Raw Studio to my XT30. All was going smoothly till I tried to enter the WB shift parameters. I could enter the blue parameter, but when I entered the red, the blue returned to 0 and vice versa. Played with the settings for a bit kept getting the same results. Any thoughts on what I'm doing wrong??
  25. Likely there’s a driver missing. Search for the error then download the driver. You may need to restart the Mac.
