X-T4 But have major problem with it (it freeze at radom, buttons, dials not working).
-
Hi, I have an X-T4 camera. Is it possible to use it with a suitable lens to take reasonably good photo (and video) from an aircraft? Aircraft like smaller Cessna 172 Skyhawk and that type of high wing planes. What lens should be used if one want a dedicated Aerial photography lens? I have a Fujinon XF 16-80 mm F4 R OIS WR lens today. Thanks, Bo

Hi, We have rather much caves where I live and I was thinking taking some nice photos inside some of my favorite caves. So what flash can light up enough inside a cave? I have an X-T4 camera (but it is some freeze problem with it now). Example of one of the caves below. Some is "closed" so no natural light inside, some others are "semi open" like in the photo below so some light from outside is present inside the cave (but not much). I have seen the Profoto A1X Air-TTL F for Fujifilm X but it has a very hefty price tag. Any recommendation based on proven experience would be appreciated. Thanks, /Bo

Can you record video with the xt-4 while driving in a vehicle?
bem replied to Kasumi3344's topic in Fuji X-T4
I have seen on Youtube some "pro" photografpher using an X-T4 on safari riding in a safari car. It would be so strange if one can not use a camera (any camera) that has video recording capability in a vehicle like car or similar. If it is no warning in the user manual I would just go ahead and use it for what You say. I was planning shooting some video from an airplane with my X-T4 but I have major problem with my brand new X-T4 (it freeze at random so no buttons or dials work) so I do not want to use it really for now since I have plans to return the camera unless the problem can be solved by Fujifilm whatever the cause is. Or just phone or e-mail Fujifilm support and ask, they should know for sure. Best is to use e-mail so You have "proof" on the answer if they say Yes and something break later. At least that is what I would do. /Bo -
Is it possible to download previous firmware version 1.01 from Fujifilm? It can be worth to downgrade to that firmware version. If problem dissapear then, it must be a problem in firmware version 1.02, that is a logical conclusion I think. Edit: I asked Fujifilm support in my country, Sweden, and they adviced not to downgrade firmware from 1.02 to 1.01, it could damage the camera they said. /Bo From Fujifilm firmware version history for X-T4: Ver.1.02 Updated: 06.30.2020 The firmware update Ver.1.02 from Ver.1.01 incorporates the following issues: - Improvement of BIS function during a movie shooting. - The phenomenon is fixed that images, which were erased from an SD card with SIMULTANEOUS DELETE ON, are played back. - The phenomenon is fixed that overexposure can happen in a certain shooting condition. - The phenomenon is fixed that a camera doesn’t wake up by pressing the shutter button after auto power off worked. - Fix of minor bugs. Ver.1.01 The firmware update Ver.1.01 from Ver.1.00 incorporates the following issues: - The phenomenon is fixed that the battery in the camera body cannot be charged by the bundled AC adapter when the USB POWER SUPPLY SETTING is changed to OFF from ON (default setting). - The phenomenon is fixed that repeated turning on and off a camera delays the set time.

bpmccammon, I must admit I had the lens attached when firmware 1.02 for the camera was installed. I had only the firmware file FWUP0024.DAT on a brand new card and new in camera formatted Sony Tough SF-G64T (V90, UHS-II, 300 MB/s Read/Write) SD card. Nothing in the instruction for updating firmware for the camera say to have lens deattached during firmware upgrade. The firmware can only do something to the camera so I do not think it matter if lens is attached or not during firmware upgrade of camera itself. And the firmware upgrade went fine and said it finished OK and to turn off camera and I did. So there is no reason I think the firmware upgrade was not fully successful. Same with lens firmware upgrade to version 1.05 for my lens XF 16-80 mm F4 R OIS WR. Hats of to Fujifilm for upgrade of firmware is so easy. /Bo

Hi Kasumi3344, You are right, when I opened the SD card hatch I could see "Made in China". So they have changed over to make the X-T4 in China nowadays instead of Japan? I think I would have prefered a Made in Japan X-T4 for several reasons I will not tell You public. Can I tell from the serial number that is shown also in my photo what date the camera was made? The camera is brand new but I do not know how long it sat on the reseller "Scandinavian Photo" shelf before I bought it. /Bo

It is easy to think a certain camera, like X-T4, has lot of problems when reading a forum like this on the X-T4. I'm sure there are many happy X-T4 owners out there but it is a fact that it is several people now including me that has real strange problems with this camera. Maybe it is related to later production units since mine is brand new? It is not uncommon when a product is very popular (and I believe this X-T4 is) that as demand rise the quality may go down. I do not say that is a fact in this case but it is a risk maybe? I can return the camera to the company I bought it from anytime to ask for warranty repair. I consider both hard- and software to fall under warranty so it is Fujifilm that has resonsibility to get the camera to work normally with their own firmware, at least that is the only reasonable way to interpret warranty these days when it is software in a camera that control so much in it. I can even return the camera within 14 days from date after I received it (on July 10) so latest July 24 I can return it no questions asked. I hope I will get some answer from Fujifilm Nordic regarding the support I e-mailed them yesterday July 13, so far not any answer (not even an e-mail response they have received my e-mail). I will contact the company I bought my camera (Scandinavian Photo) soon and tell them I have a supportcase with my brand new camera and that I may return it if Fujifilm has not given any sign of action before July 24 when the returndate ends for me. It is a special distance sale law in my country that gives a consumer (not a company) right to return a product bought online (from a company in my country) no questions asked within 14 dags from buyer received the product (the 14 days start to count from day after one received the product, if end day is on a wekend it ends first day after weekend, on a monday). Pretty neat law these days when one buy almost everyting online. /Bo

bpmccammon, I hope Fujifilm support or service department is able to repeat the problem You have with Your camera with firmware 1.02 installed. What lens and firmware version in the lens did You have for your X-T4? I have lens XF 16-80 mm F4 R OIS WR with firmware 1.05 (latest version for that lens), and my X-T4 has firmware 1.02 (latest version). I was thinking maybe the lens and camera combination and their firmware together can create the unlucky situation for me? I have not a clue. I do not know how common it is to use a lens XF 16-80 mm F4 R OIS WR on a X-T4 but in my country (Sweden) they sell it combined in one package as one alternative (the other alternative is package X-T4 with lens XF 16-55mm F2.8 R LM WR). Both package alternatives (camera house and lens) is cheaper to buy, then to buy camera house empty and lens separate. If it turn out the cause in my case is a firmware problem it may indicate a quality problem at Fujifilm. If a product has a software it is equal important they test the software carefully before release to public for download on their homepage, as to make sure the hardware (camera and lens combination) works without major problems. In my case I consider a freeze of all buttons and dials to be as bad as it can be making the camera useless (unless You know how to take the camera out of the situation). I know now by my own trail and error that if If take out the battery and insert it again, and turn the camera On all will work again with the camera (until next freeze, that can happen sooner or later, not predictable). It is called beta phase or similar when they test for problems that needs to be corrected. I feel like a beta tester now and I prefer not to be that for free for any company. But it can of course be a hardware problem in my X-T4 that is the root cause to the problem with random freeze of my camera. But that indicate quality problems also perhaps. Do they make the X-T4 outside Japan or in Japan? /Bo

Hi Chr, I have the "Drive dial" on top to the left on the camera set to HDR now (I have not touched that dial yet). HDR, High Dynamic Range (is according to user manual): Each time the shutter button is pressed, the camera takes three shots, varying exposure each time, and combines them into a single picture. The resulting photograph preserves details in highlights and shadows. To use Effects one need to set the Drive dial to ADV (=Advanced Filters), and then a selected filter in Shooting Setting, Drive setting, ADV. Filter Setting will be used). I have checked now and the Drive dial is still set to HDR. /Bo

Hi, I have now e-mailed "Fujifilm Nordic" support with basically same info I have written here. It was not possible to phone them that I tried first, only e-mail is accepted. So now I will have a support "case" with Fujifilm in Sweden. If I get any answer and how the problem with my X-T-4 is solved I will post again here so You know. /Bo

I just do not understand what cause the blurry images taken with my X-T4. Light conditions was good - sunshine. The few photos that is OK that I took with the X-T4 today lacks sharpness, clarity, and is too dark. Maybe this camera is too advanced to me but I'm willing to learn. On the other hand must a camera be so difficult to use to be able to get reasonably quality photos without need to take almost a degree in photography with a fujifilm camera? /Bo

The first photo below of a church is one of hundreds photos I took today that is just to send to recycle bin. It was taken with a Fujifilm X-T4 camera in bright sunsine (the sun is behind me). It is a mystery why the quality in so bad on this photo (and on hundred others I took same day in bright sunshine). Compare to a photo I took with my iPhone some days earlier on same church. I have some homework to do on the X-T4 camera usage obviously. Not all photos had bad quality I took today with my X-T4, see one example in last photo below, but it is not so sharp really and it is too dark also. /Bo

When I got my X-T4 some days ago my first thought when I looked at it and opened the various hatches - damn this seems to be "cheap" design, not rugged at all. And the LCD holder can not be that durable or? At least that is the first impression I got about it, also cheap plastic case for the LCD screen. I'm little surprised this manufacturer has not yet leaved the LCD world for OLED screen. Is not LCD almost stone age today? In sunshine it is very hard to see what is happening on the LCD. The shutter button is also very "cheap" - the most important button on any camera - right? It is so flimsy and imprecise, in my opinion. This X-T4 camera is supposed to be so good and has got so positive comments by various "pro" (sponsored or not). So far it has not impresssed on me as an amateur and I come from heavy use of iPhone with thousands and thousands photos taken with that. Neither the photo quality nor the build quality of X-T4 impress on me (so far). But maybe I expect to much for this class of camera for this price? I admit I'm in a steep learning curve on the X-T4 right now and I have not understood the potential of the X-T4 yet and how to proper use it and all the settings it has. But for me this is a very expensive camera (I saved for 3 months to buy it). Just a simple thing like bying a Fuji leather case for X-T4 - I looked everywhere but I can not see that Fujifilm make one for this X-T4 (but they have one for X-T3). I do not understand that if the X-T4 is one of the top line of X "T" mirrorless cameras now. And it is a major problem with my X-T4 also - it freeze now and then and all user input is dead, no response. I have to take out the battery to get it working again. It is a mystery to me. I have also read (after I bought the X-T4) there is a problem with the VG-XT4 connector underside the X-T4 case. I have a VG-XT4 battery grip case... I just do not understand this. If this is Fujifilm X "T" flagship I'm not so impressed so far but I'm open for change in that opinion as things might improve in future somehow. I use lens Fujinon XF 16-80 mm F4 R OIS WR by the way. I'm on the edge to return the camera but I want to give it a chance little longer. /Bo

Compare the photo on the church in previous post taken with the X-T4 and photo taken with my iPhone some days ago on same church in this post. It is a mystery to me why the photo taken with the X-T4 is so bad quality. And the light condition was hard when I took the photo with my iPhone - it was at evening at half past eight just some days ago and dark grey clouds in the sky. /Bo

Now when I look at the photos that I took today with my X-T4 I maybe understand what the terrible click sound tell me - "this is going to be a terrible photo quality". I have this lens on my X-T4: Fujinon XF 16-80 mm F4 R OIS WR. This is an example below of a photo after the terrible click sound was heard - see the church, very bad quality. Example of photo when I heard proper click - see white house with the three cherries in foreground. It is OK but lacks sharpness and notice the river under the bridge is just a black hole. The arch under the bridge where water is flowing is suppose to look like this... - see last photo. It is obvious a light and a focus problem here as I understand it. I have used most Auto settings in the camera since I'm new to it. I have hundreds of horrible photos after today that is just to throw in the recycle bin, like the first photo of the church. I have to figure out what I'm doing wrong or need to change in the camera settings. I just do not understand... It was a beautiful day with sunshine. Seems this camera is very picky as soon as there is slightest shaddow somewhere in the photo area despite full sunshine? I have looked at the photos taken during the 3 days I have used it so far and even in bright sunshine I get not so good photos. The camera is so picky with slightest shaddow in vicinity and then it just a black area there in the photo. I'm sure if I have taken a photo with my iPhone at same moment it would have been very good... My iPhone gives super photos compared to this camera, so far, but that is obviosly because I do not understand the X-T4 camera settings yet. I have read whole X-T4 user manual (before I took all the photos today). That did not help, I did not understand all, as expected, so I need to learn more to understand a Fujifilm user manual better and probably much more. It will probably be a steep learning curve with this camera... Is there any good book on the X-T4 "how to" or good video tutorial to set me on right track? I'm willing to learn This camera is obviously for a pro photographer and I'm not I can assure You I have before used mostly my faithful iPhone since I take photos mostly in terrain and conditions I just can not drag a heavy camera with me (like an X-T4). An iPhone gives so nice photos (good enough for me), so I just doubt if an X-T4 will be that much better (for me) in situations I can drag the X-T4 with me. I will probably get an Iphone 12 when it is released later this year, it is suppose to have excellent camera. If that is the case my X-T4 will probably be used only when I walk (and that is not often, I run alot and then a light "camera" is only option, like an iPhone). I have taken tens of thousands photos with iPhones and not many photos I needed to throw in recycle bin... But today I need to throw hundreds of photos taken with my X-T4 in recycle bin - new record Well, live and learn... /Bo

Hi all, I'm new to X-T4 (I have only used it for 3 days so far). Can someone explain what the different click sounds tell me when I press the shutter button? In most cases it is that nice little slow "cliiiick", soft and nice. Then suddenly there is a horrible short and hard CLICK sound (schhhhh) when I press the shutter button. First I thought the shutter had broken but later it was that nice little slow "cliiiick", soft and nice. But soon that horrible click sound was there again now and then. I was confused since I did know what this strange sound was trying to tell me, I still do not know. It almost feels that the sound came from the LCD but it can not be I suppose. Even in bright sun this happen now and then so it can not be any light condition problem I suppose. Is it something with the focus the camera is trying to tell me? Is it when the camera is unable to focus properly this terrible sound is used when pressing the shutter button? Sorry for asking maybe such basic question but for me it just a mistery at present. I have never used a Fujifilm camera before. Thanks, Bo (Sweden)

I was out some hours today Sunday July 12, 2020, the third day using my brand new X-T4. It frooze again after maybe an hour usage. I took out the battery and inserted it again and then it worked fine for the rest of the day. Out of 3 days usage it has froozen at least one time each day (some day several times) when using my X-T4. That is rather easily repetable in my humble opinion. /Bo

Hi, What is the problem with the battery/grip connection? I have a brand new X-T4 and VG-XT4 battery grip. So I really like to know what to watch up with regarding this. Thanks, Bo (Sweden)

I have about the same problem with my brand new X-T4 also (I use lens XF 16-80 mm F4 R OIS WR if that matters). I have two Sony TOUGH SF-G64T (V90, UHS-II, about 300 MB/s Read/Write speed) 64 GB SD cards in the camera, that was formatted in the camera before I used them. I have latest firmware in both the camera (ver. 1.02) and lens (ver. 1.05). I did not expect such problem with a brand new X-T4. Only way for me to get out of the freeze is to take out the battery and then the camera respond to user input again. If not Fujifilm will fix the problem rather soon, if it is a firmware problem, I will have to consider returning the brand new camera. Major flaw in my opinion. To bad I like it otherwise. /Bo

Hi, I have a X-T4 and I have a Think Tank Turnstyle 5 V2.0 "sling bag". This one: https://www.thinktankphoto.com/collections/turnstyle I have this lens on my X-T4: XF 16-80 mm F4 R OIS WR. I can with some effort squeeze the X-T4 with the lens mouned in the bag and with some effort get the zipper closed. At present I will use the lens I have, I will probably not buy any longer lens now but maybe a macro lens later. I prefer a sling bag. Is it maybe a Think Tank Turnstyle 10 V2.0 I need (I have not tried it). Or is it any other suitable out there? Also is there any Fujifilm case for X-T4? I have not seen any. Like it is available for X-T3, this one: https://fujifilm-x.com/sv-se/products/accessories/leather-case-blc-xt3/ Is there anything similar for the X-T4 from any other manufacturer then Fujifilm? regards, Bo

Hi, I have a brand new X-T4. I have only used if for 2 days. Photo quality is OK in my opinion (at least some photos, some is very bad quality). But now and then my X-T4 has just freeze and it do not respond to any user input. Only way I have found to get out of it is to take out the battery and then turn on the camera again. Then all works fine again. When I got the camera and lens (Fujinon XF16-80 mm F4 R OIS WR) I upgraded the camera to latest firmware (ver. 1.02) and the lens as well (ver. 1.05) before I started to use it. I use two SD memory cards in the camera, Sony SF-G64T (UHS-II, V90) 64 GB (one such card in each memory slot). I have a battery grip VG-XT4 with two NP-235W batteries but I have not mounted it on the camera and used it yet. Anyone experience same problem that I have with my brand new camera? I suspect the firmware but that is just a guess. regards, Bo (Sweden)
