Do we tolerate the bodies because of the lens qualities?
photonongrata replied to frankinfuji's topic in General Discussion
For me, there are minor quirks that are on the level of what to expect from any camera system. I have lost a screw from my X-T2 and had some minor paint issues, so I would be willing to accept that build quality may not be as high as Canon or Nikon. But in particular, Fuji's size, image quality, lenses, and controls are best in class, and that's a lot. -
Do not actually do this. Most water damage to cameras is gradual, with corrosion gradually getting worse over say a year. So you may think you're fine, but you may have doomed your camera to a short life. Also, Fuji WR is explicitly not rated for that and company literature has said not to do it. I certainly hope that the camera will last functionally as you say. I'm just disappointed the worn points become white on a black camera.

Back to the store it goes!

Like all things, the answer is "it depends." If I was shooting for a client, I would get the 10-24, easy. If I was shooting for me, hell no, give me the primes. I take better photos with primes. Exploring a scene with a single focal length and really getting your mind into that focal length is a much better way for me to work, if I'm not under the gun. Plus, I like the increased sharpness and typically lower distortion, and predictable distortion. Why not just set a zoom at one focal length and not change it? Yeah right, I don't have that kind of self control! But for a client, psh, no question, give me the zoom, I'm not gonna miss the shot my client wants chasing perfect. This is basically how I feel about zooms vs. primes across the board.

Slow eye-sensor EVF switching response with UHS-I cards
photonongrata replied to kimcarsons's topic in Fuji X-T2 / Fuji X-T20
Thanks for posting about this kimcarsons, I had a much slower card in my second slot as overflow and swapping it has increased the responsiveness some. I leave my camera on while I shoot using eye sensor viewfinder only mode, so I don't run into this delay much, but you never know when you'll need your camera on in an instant! -
You already ordered it, but this makes me think of me back in photo school complaining to a professor about only having one control wheel on my Canon Rebel at the time. It was my first digital class, and so I was used to fully manual controls. He told me to "get my thumbs in gear." Like a year later I bought a semi-pro canon with two wheels for manual control Sometimes, we want what we want, rational or no. I hope you love the X-T2. I certainly love mine!

I looooooooove the 27mm f/2.8. If it's sunny out, I'm probably out using it It's amazing how tiny and versatile it is. Here's one of the Hiram M. Chittenden Locks in Seattle, Washington.

I used this list as reference buying a used lens a couple of days ago. It was SUPER useful. Thank you so much for your work!

I think the joystick is kinda worthless
photonongrata replied to Jwctp's topic in Fuji X-T2 / Fuji X-T20
Not worthless, but it could be so much better if it was even a little more responsive. When I hold left, I don't want it to go one over and then delay for a bunch. I want it to move! -
Backbutton Focus or Focus with the Shutter Button
photonongrata replied to Brooklynboy's topic in Fuji X-T2 / Fuji X-T20
Back button, absolutely. The ability to anticipate the needed focus is too important. On top of that, when I hit the shutter button, I want the shutter to fire, immediately, no matter what! -
I think you probably already have plenty of opinions here, but while I love my X-T2, I would not upgrade if I had an X-T1. I came from Canon so this isn't a choice I had to make personally. I have not had any of the problems people have listed. Nothing serious, anyway. But the improvements are not worth two more high end Fuji lenses for your X-T1. No way. edit-- this of course really depends on what you're doing. Sports or wildlife, I might consider the auto focus worth it. Huge prints, which is something I do, then maybe the megapixels would be worth it. But as a general matter, no way.

Help me out with focusing at holiday parties
photonongrata replied to oxjox's topic in Fuji X-T2 / Fuji X-T20
Ah, good point, missed that. It gets easier as you go! It is possible to very quickly nail focus in any scene with the X-T2, but yeah, just keep at it, and try the different modes, they are very useful! I've found setting AF modes to the Q menu or a customization button is very helpful. -
Help me out with focusing at holiday parties
photonongrata replied to oxjox's topic in Fuji X-T2 / Fuji X-T20
It IS challenging and you are doing nothing wrong at all. There are more techniques than one can list. It makes a big difference which Fuji camera you have and what its capabilities are, so I'd love for you to reply with that information. Single box is one possible technique a lot of people use. It is worth trying other AF modes your camera may have, including Multi (where the camera detects objects for you), Area (where you manually direct an area of the screen, but with multiple points), and Face detection mode. You might also want try one of the MF Assist modes so you can better see what is in focus, if you camera has them.
