  1. I have attached the filter and hood to the lens of the X30, and the combo works perfectly. But now I cannot get them to come apart so I can use a 52mm CPL. Is there any way to do this without destroying either the hood or filter, or even worse, the lens thread?
  2. I have my X30 set to Auto Power Off after 2 minutes, but mostly I have to manually turn it off and back on again to re-activate the camera. According to the manual, it should activate by half-depressing the shutter button. Is this expectable, or did I get a defective one? Also wondering about the Quick Start Mode. Seems that there is a bit of battery drain, but is the faster restart time worth it? Thanks!
  3. Finally got my X30! It will take awhile to figure everything out, but I am wondering about the choices for film size. I am used to 3:2 from decades of 35mm film shooting, and with my other X cameras, so wondering about choosing this rather than 4:3. Thanks! merlin
  4. Guess my garden variety of gladioli do not amount to much...
  5. Thanks, Mike. But to be clear, do you not like these flowers, or the plural?
  6. Thanks to both of you for the information and clarification. Much appreciated! I have ordered the 3-part set (filter, hood, lens cap). I have had no problems placing a CPL on top of a UV filter, so far, in terms of vignetting or image softening, even with the Nikon 24-70 and 16-85.
  7. Thanks for the information, Rodger -- much appreciated! This is exactly how I hoped it would work. Does this mean that I can remove the hood and use a 52mm CPL by screwing it into the UV filter thread?
  8. Hi. Hope you are all well and happy. My new photography website is online! Please have a look — hopefully it will inspire your own creativity. http://merlinemrysphoto.com Feedback and suggestions welcome! Hope to hear from you. Love and blessings, merlin
  9. Wonderful, inspiring images! Thanks for sharing them. Looks like a fabulous place to visit.
  10. Is there a filter and hood set for the X30 that places the filter directly on top of the lens? From what I have been able to understand, the OEM and other 2- or 3-part assemblies leave a gap between the lens and the filter that screws into the hood, thereby creating space for dirt and grime to get in between them.
  11. Since I use mostly the 90mm for landscapes, along with the 16mm, and X100S as an intermediate AOV, that zoom range is a bit too short and not nearly long enough, for me. That's why I elected to pass on it as a kit lens when I purchased the X-T1, and opted for the 56mm instead. The 16 and 90 were not yet available. The wider and longer perspectives work very well with the New Mexico landscapes, and most other nature areas, which is why I was drawn to strongly consider the X30 with its compactness and excellent zoom lens.
  12. Thanks, Rodger. Northern New Mexico is a photographer's paradise, with so many amazing vistas and locales. Do you think the X30 would do well with landscapes, since that is mostly what I shoot? Having a zoom lens would be very convenient, and the ones for the X-T1 are either much too bulky, or not the best IQ.
  13. Excellent! I am still a bit on the fence, so to speak, even with having viewed your marvelous images. Looking once again at my most recent sets of photos taken with the X100S and X-T1 makes me wonder if it is worth getting yet another camera. Decisions, decisions, decisions....
  14. It is listed at amazon and b&h, new, for $499.
  15. Thanks very much for your comments, Rodger -- just what I was hoping for! Your photos are marvellous, and if this is what the X30 can do for me, I will be very happy. It won't replace my X-T1 and excellent lenses, but will offer a much more compact and convenient system. Wondering about noise at higher ISO, though. You use it to good effect, but would you recommend keeping it at 800 or less?
  16. The river was wild on Thursday.
  17. Thanks, Mike! Hopefully this forum will not be as dead as fotozones seems to have become.
  18. I am considering purchasing this camera before the remaining ones disappear, but am in a quandary as to whether it would be a good choice. I have an X100S, and X-T1 with 16/1.4, 56/1.2, and 90/2, and usually carry both cameras whilst hiking and going on outings. I think the X30 will be more versatile for the most part, but am not willing to sacrifice IQ. I will be using it outdoors, so a max ISO of 800 (or 1600) should be more than enough. I have done a lot of research and read many reviews, but cannot actually demo one, or even speak directly with someone who has this camera. Hopefully folks will respond and offer direction and suggestions. Thanks!
