Wow. I'm new to this forum, but I'm on a few other hobby related ones. I'm always amazed by people's negativity. Photography is an art, and the camera is the tool. If someone chooses to personalize their tool and share it, let them. If you don't care for it, then keep your snippy little comments to yourself.

If you don't have anything nice to say, than don't say it all. Something we all should have learned in kindergarten.

... Marrakesh... What a wonderful welcome! Marrakesh is such a crazy city. From the moment I arrived there I felt in love with its culture: stunning ancient buildings such mosques or palaces, museums and of course street markets and its labyrinthine Medina Souks, I was impressed.

Locals are different than us, obviously because their culture is completely different. People are friendly and they are always trying to sell anything they can to you, sometimes taking advantage of tourists. Indeed, they are very picturesque and photogenic people..... CONTINUE READING THE ARTICLE HERE:Moroccan Wild Experience

Great thread. I find it very interesting and educational to read about all your personal preferences as to prime lenses and the reasons behind.

I currently own the 16, 27 and 35 Fuji primes, the 18-135 zoom and an old Russian MF 58mm lens. I like all my Fuji's; haven't tested the rusky yet. Currently eyeing the 90mm.

This is how I use my lenses nowadays:

    Street: 16 & 27

    Landscape / outdoor: 16 & 18-135

    Indoor: 16 & 35

    Travel: 16, 27 & 18-135

    Protests and other crowds: 35 & 18-135

This said, if I had to choose only three primes and no zoom, I would choose: 16, 27 & 90. Given my photographic interests, those three lenses would cover most of my needs.

The problem with the 35 1.4's AF speed is the construction of the lens. To focus, the motor has to move EVERY single lens element present in the 35. I think Fuji calls this ALG (All Lens Group) focusing. A lot of glass has to be moved, slowing down the AF speed.

I've done my writeup of the XF16mm f/1.4 lens and posted a gallery of images taken with that lens.

OMG I love my 16 1.4!!!  In 10 days of stock shooting that lens was my most-used just behind my 18-55.  It's T.A.C.K. sharp from 1.4 to where i took it at F11!  Absolutely zero complaints.  I feel it balances very well on the X-T1.  Personally I love the size and the feel of the lens and the bokeh, when used up close, is delicious!

Man it's tack. tack. tack. sharp and it focuses OH SO CLOSE!

The original poster is asking about Real World Experience with the 16 ƒ1.4 for the X Series.  Not about how it compares to Sigma's offering for full frame bodies.  Somehow somewhere this discussion went down a completely different track.

I only got to play with the 16 for a brief time, but I absolutely loved it, and have not heard of anyone who owns it that doesn't love it.  If the 24 is a length you love, you most definitely love the 16.  I've heard many that owned the 14 and didn't feel they needed the 16, but once they tried it out, they quickly forgot the 14 altogether.  It's zippy, and sharp as hell, and the low light performance is quite amazing.  I fell in love with it in the brief time I had with it and wish I could afford it.  All that being said, I don't need it to be that fast and I can afford the 14 much sooner, so I've opted to try and grab the 14...That however is just my needs...As I said, if you love the 24 Focal and can afford the 16, then you will not be disappointed in my opinion.

Love it, use it mostly for environmental portraits. I like the ability to blow out the background with a wide angle. Build quality is superb, even better than my 50-140. Nice snap back focus ring. I wish it came with a metal lens hood, the plastic one feels cheap and I wish that Fuji would finally, finally give us a proper lens cap. The old design barely stays on and I currently have to replace all the original ones with cheap eBay ones that have proper springs in them.

I feel it does render a bit more "digital", if I can describe it that way. My 56 APD renders soft, like old film lenses. The 50-140 is clinical, very neutral and seems a bit colder. The 16mm feels "digital", can't point my finger on it why I feel that way.

This is part of my basic kit, being 16mm, X100T and 56 1.2 APD. The 50-140 barely gets any use. As far as wide angles go, it's great.

Personally.  Speaking JUST FOR MYSELF.  The 10-24, though an extremely versatile and beautiful lens, is way too heavy to carry around.  With that having been said, I have the Zeiss 12 2.8, and th 16 1.4 and I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE my 16 1.4
It is the most versatile of the primes.  Does Macro work (at least for me), does the landscape well. It's crystal clear, sharp, fast, and the contrast is amazing.

And, it's also a beautifully designed lens.  I know that shouldn't count for much but hey, I gotta look at it too you know...

jordijardiel reacted to Warwick in 16mm or 23mm for indoor, your opinion?
If I could have only one lens it would be the 23mm. You can use it for pretty much everything, indoors and out. But if I had just the 35mm and I were given the choice of adding either the 23mm or the 16mm to my collection, I'd choose the 16mm. Together with the 35mm, those two lenses give you a huge amount of scope and variety, whereas the 35 and the 23 have a bigger area of overlap. Outdoors, head-and-shoulders portraits etc - that's your 35. Indoors, tight spaces, close-up action, fast-moving pets, landscapes - that's your 16.
