  1. There definitely is an A7rii in the dynamic range database, I own one and was directly comparing it to the X-Pro 2 as its my current familiar reference. While the X-Pro 2 seems excellent, if not class leading, for APS-C, it didn't really come near to touching the A7rii in that particular test. With the Fuji pushed 4 stops and the Sony 5 (why does DPR set that as default for DR comparisons when one camera's base ISO is 200?) the Sony had a clear advantage - very significantly less noise and finer grain, and that's at both camera's native resolution. If you resize them to match, or print, the A7rii advantage is, frankly as big as it should be for a sensor nearly twice the size and resolution. If you then equalise the test so both are pushed by an equal number of stops, the difference is even bigger. This is not knocking the X-Pro 2, just saying I'm not going to be able to sell on my Sony if/when I get one.
  2. That does look promising! Perhaps the X-Pro 2, and (4K?) X-T2 will be surprise video monsters. Now Fuji just need to make their lenses more silent for video work!
  3. Thanks I didn't know that about the X-Pro 1, I have an X-T1. OK, here's hoping for the addition of a 4:3 aspect, it would be useful, and particularly apt for Fuji given its their Instax format.
  4. Anyone know whether the projected framelines in the X-Pro 2 are just 3:2, or if we will have other options? I often like to frame with a square print, or 4:3 in mind, and 4:3 is also the aspect for the Instax SP-1. Of course one can guess, but this is imprecise and since these are electronic projections, it would seem like it might just be a bit of coding? Failing that, perhaps just in the EVF, this must be possible there. Would be nice on a Pro camera when work must sometimes be delivered in specific formats.
  5. Love the icebergs and the waterfall. Stunning.
  6. Always the way! There have been some bright days this last week, but I have a deadline to meet at the moment.
  7. I've only had one afternoon of really decent light here with time to take photographs since Boxing Day too. Perhaps Fuji are being smart delaying the final release of the XP2 til nearly March - better light for the first real image samples!
  8. It is classy. Refined. Makes me think of my old Leica film body somehow.
  9. I don't think so, but it is a thinner sensor stack and copper wired.
  10. Absolutely perfect.
  11. @danwells That is the best summing up I've ever read about why Sony's lens 'strategy' is deeply flawed, frustrating, and why I still can't really get the lenses I want for my A7rii.. Rico's first look is extremely tantalising. If the hopes for dynamic range to compete with D810 level cameras are realised, as well as improved processing in LR, I'm getting one. It can't replace the Sony completely yet, as I need high quality 4K video for a short film, but I suspect it will replace it for most stills simply because I greatly prefer Fuji's ergonomics and lenses, weight, etc. Lastly, OT, what a fantastic thing to do, hiking the Appalachian Trail! I've wanted to ever since reading Bill Bryson's 'A Walk in the Woods', being a very keen walker myself and a great lover of the US National Parks. Sadly I live in the UK and can't afford the time and money at the moment, but hope to one day have a go. Good luck and let us see all the lovely photos I'm sure you'll get along the way!
  12. Some really interesting thoughts on the sensor and dynamic range, and the camera in general. Personally, when we get some RAW processing and samples, if the DR is state of the art for APS-C as speculated, and anywhere near the better FF models I'll be seriously interested. As important as the DR is how clean the shadows are, and to an extent how ISO-less the sensor is. On my A7rii I can expose for the highlights and pull up shadows to balance the exposure almost painlessly, a little like a friend of mine, who is a pro landscape photographer, now does on his D810. It really is extraordinary - shots which would previously have to be bracketed can now be achieved in one capture. If Fuji have matched that kind of performance with the new sensor that will be quite an achievement. If the 'waxy' detail problem has been mitigated in RAW for LR too I'll definitely be in - I have some hope of this with the NR settings now going down to -4, which suggests you might be able to turn what I believe before was un-defeatable RAW NR off completely, but we shall see... By the way, was it just me, or did anyone else think the 33mm frameline is pretty much a confirmation that the rumoured 33mm f/1.2 is more than a rumour now? In terms of the hugely faster processor, and the potential read speed of the sensor, yes, I feel the X-T2 will almost certainly have 4K video, and perhaps some other tricks. I'd be interested to see if it has that new 4.4K EVF which has been rumoured too. IF the new sensor is fantastic, I'm getting close to the point I could switch completely to Fuji in the near future. An X-T2 with 4K, and especially if it had IBIS (I shoot primes, so none of my lenses are stabilised) would probably do it. Very exciting. Since Fuji's lens lineup is quite complete in terms of FL range, it would be lovely to see the whole range updated to the latest AF motors, weather sealing, etc., even if not optically.
  13. Cool, thanks! Here's hoping...
  14. Can you elaborate on where you're getting the dynamic range figure, please?
  15. Regarding the copper wiring on the sensor - http://photorumors.com/2016/01/15/the-sensor-inside-the-new-fuji-x-pro2-camera-is-made-by-sony-and-other-interesting-facts/ And http://photoreview.com.au/reviews/advanced-compact-cameras/interchangeable-lens/first-look-fujifilm-x-pro2 Are interesting.
  16. Much of this looks like great improvements, but I'm tempering my enthusiasm for a little bit, as there is still an elephant in the room - None of the reviewers had access to RAW files or processing. This means none of them were able to say anything meaningful about Dynamic Range, or whether there is improved treatment of fine detail in greens/foliage, etc., during RAW processing. I will wait until I see some well controlled tests of dynamic range, and LR and other processors before getting super excited and pulling the trigger. Everything else seems right though, so if the sensor lives up to the state of the art I'll be on board with it. We shall see... That's a really interesting comments about the copper wiring on the sensor, etc. It's things like this we now need more detail on as well!
  17. @danwells - very speculative, although interesting speculation. Do you think though, that Sony's recent 'have your cake and eat it' 42mp BSI sensor in the A7rii might mean that a similar design of 36mp APS-C sensor would in fact have more mp AND more dynamic range, and comparable noise performance to lower MP sensors?
  18. Another 45g or so is pretty negligible, wouldn't worry me. Very slight increase in size wouldn't either - sometimes it makes it easier to hold. Must say I'm more excited about this cam than any other I have been in a long while. I'd like more details on the sensor itself before committing to whether I'd buy or not, but if dynamic range is nearer the state of the art, I'd definitely be interested. I'm also quietly hoping that part of the delay might have been in working with Adobe to fix LR issues, but that's probably just dreaming.
  19. Love 15 and 19, very nice.
  20. Those are nice, post more!
  21. Loving the last few, very Xmassy!
  22. I tried carrying three and kept on needing four often enough I decided to just carry four. The final ones I settled on are - 14, 23, 35, 56 I have found very few things I'm not happy getting with these for landscape, travelling, urban/street, casual portraiture. If I were going out to shoot wildlife, or sport, though, I would hire a long, fast, zoom and possibly 1.4x (or whatever that new tele booster is on Fuji). This is one area Fuji has Sony flattened, I'm really struggling to find lenses I need which are actually available in their FF lineup (I'm looking at you, Zeiss Batis 25, 85, and 21mm Loxia). The 55 1.8 and that A7rii sensor, though, are truly, truly things of beauty.
  23. @iso100 I love that shot, beautiful!
  24. Keep the 23 f/1.4, it's a significantly better lens optically, and arguably a more useful focal length if you only have one lens - classic reportage focal length which can shoot landscapes, street, docu and, with the quality of the 23 1.4 and the 1.4 even portraits nicely. Also has the MF clutch. Ideally, though, keep it and save for the 35.
