  1. I’ve just bought a second body and to that purpose I’ve bought a secondhand X-E2. It performs indeed as the other top models minus the evf which is certainly smaller. I am not sure that there would be any further and future support for this camera ( other than making it suitable to use a new lens or make it suitable to a new operative system) since the X-E2S is , after the firmware update, practically identical to its previous model but cots 20% or so more. It’s a speculation but I guess that the X-E2 kaizen stops here or thereabouts, while the one for X-E2S will be set forth. perhaps you meant to write the X-Pro 2 and the X-T2
  2. Have they offered a camera replacement? Get in touch with the Tokyo head office and file a complaint based on the fact that the same happened in many other places in the world and the camera was repaired with no charge. Link this thread to make your point. Replacing 4 screws for $150 is unreasonable anyway. Fill this form, they are generally very responsive and positive and have corrected the actions of local offices several times before. Also, Switzerland might be affected by the same problem which we have over here in the NL and that is that our repairs are sent to Germany with turnaround times even longer than the ones that you have been told but I cannot believe that screwing 4 screws in would take that long (or that much skill!). Fuji needs to start using for these screws some thread-locking fluid! https://contact.fujifilm.com/cgi-bin/mail/form.cgi/contact_tokyo_headquarters?_ga=1.225719197.665361477.1432290617
  3. Every lens has a set of motors which performs the autofocus feature so, a lens could never be focussing any faster than the motor which powers the system. Of course, a great deal of the autofocus motor speed is gained or lost by the actual capability to detect the object being in focus in what one calls “ hunting" That has to be caused by a combination of hardware and software. One can improve the software, but, at some point even if you increase autofocus detection, the speed limit would be the maximum speed of the motors. As far as I can tell, Fuji uses different types of motors with different types of lenses. I don’t think ( but I have not measured it) that the new X70, a camera with a fixed focus wideangle lens could be the same speed of any X camera with an interchangeable lens, especially if one would measure it against the similar focal length of 18mm. I suppose that the X70 would be faster or at least, it should be so by intuition. Maybe there is someone out there who has been able to measure this things.
  4. Good luck, keep us updated, this 24mm might not work on your lens turbo! Not many wideangles do. Due to lenses protruding inside. Cheers.
  5. if that floats you boat, great!
  6. Cheers Darknj, how are you liking the lens turbo? I do, but I am juggling many things at the same time, among other things, as you’ve read, a new camera body. I hope to soon find a cause worth pursuing with some portrait project or something which will allow me to use both the tilt adapter and the lens turbo with the manual lenses. Anyway, I must conclude that I am imagining things when it comes to more hunting on the 60mm , which is a very possible thing
  7. I have the distinct feeling that it goes now first past the focusing point and then goes back to it, it is not too bad ( certainly not worse than it was before firmware upgrade 4.0) but definitely not what I remember that it was before the lst update, but I might be imagining things.
  8. Many who travel to the far east these days do so stopping over in Dubai or Helsinki for example, but one might stop in Bangkok or Singapore to, depending on the company that you use. In all these airports there might be possibilities to buy cheaper than in Japan and generally all that is bought in an airport, while in transit, is tax-free. As for the guarantee although I suspect member “ levend” to be Dutch, it is very well possible that he is British, in that case the guarantee is one year anyway. If member Levend is Dutch, some shops offer a 3 year or 5 year guarantee even if the european statutory minimum is 2 years, and as I wrote several times before, in the NL, although it is difficult to enforce the principle of the law, any item is guaranteed against defects for as long it is reasonable to expect the item to offer a useful life, which for a camera it is easily 3 years or more. https://www.rijksoverheid.nl/onderwerpen/bescherming-van-consumenten/vraag-en-antwoord/welke-garanties-heb-ik-op-een-product
  9. Cameras are not necessarily cheaper in Japan that they might be elsewhere. Don’t assume that you are going to be cheaper there because they make the camera in that country. Some other Asian countries might be a lot cheaper. If you have a stop over somewhere you might want to see if the things that you want to buy are cheaper where you stop over instead of Japan. This appears to be a good a site where good general advise on what to do, how to do it and what not to do, is given. I think it is very useful. http://www.japancamerahunter.com/2012/04/camera-shopping-in-tokyo-pt-1-shinjuku/ this Kitamura Chain seems to be one of the largest but I can’t find an English page. Look up the possibility to get any of your purchase tax free upon leaving the country or directly in the shop, you generally get the tax back. Not all shops offer that always ask beforehand. Make sure you have the passport (original) with you when you buy anything tax free. Copies won’t do. http://www.kitamura.jp http://www.nationmultimedia.com/business/Japan-expands-tax-free-list-to-encourage-tourist-s-30241703.html Despite the fact that many, especially young, people speak English, depending on where you are you might not always be able to find someone who is able to explain complex things in a language that is really not very useful to most Japanese in their daily lives. Japanese are very reserved and polite so they might answer that YES, they speak English ( because they don’t want to disappoint you) but then when it comes to speaking about things more complex than the ones which one would be able to deal with at a basic language level, their ability to do so might not quite be up to expectations. Be very patient and imaginative. Always carry a card from your hotel with you to use in the TAXI. When you go anywhere make sure you have written directions with you on paper because you might not be able to find addresses very easily. Japan has a very peculiar way to deal with streets that aren’t named and buildings with no sequential numbers! http://www.planettokyo.com/trip-planning/getting-around/the-black-art-of-finding-a-japanese-address/ Finding addresses in a less than popular area and no being able to speak Japanese with people in those less popular areas who might not be able to speak English will drive you absolutely crazy, I can guarantee you this.
  10. I have conflicting experiences with the 60mm and the update on the X-T1 and the X-E2. Firmware 4.0 on the X-T1 seemed to improve the 60mm performance and leave a little hunting in low light and low contrast but in general it looked like things were improved. After the new firmware update on both cameras, I have the distinct feeling that hunting has worsened again bringing it back to what it was before. Of course the problem is that when you update your firmware in order to make a reasoned comparison one whould have to have a camera with the older firmware next to one with the new firmware to make a comparison. Anything done by “ memory” is bound not be a very precise comparison. I am quite sure that now my 60mm hunts a lot more than it did after the firmware 4.0 on the X-T1. The performance with the X-E2 is similar but I have to say that I only have used the camera two weeks with the previous firmware and that I haven’t used the 60 with the X-E2 before but only with the X-T1 and my older X-E1. I’ve just checked now in good light there are not too many problems but as soon as you point the camera in a dark spot it certainly hunts more than it did before. It looks like some other improvements threw something in the way of this lens performance. It definitely looks like we’ve done two step forward but at least one back.
  11. Well, it might be worth for me to place my question to @typeronin, whom has offered, in this thread, to give information and perhaps make comparisons for all of those who haven’t the X pro 2. My question was specifically directed to him, the initiator of this thread called” I’ve got a X-Pro 2 right now... anything you want to know? Yes, has anyone done a comparative large print between the X-Pro2 and the X-T1? Answering is not compulsory. If this is not a question to your interest or liking, cug, please, disregard it. I won’t be upset if nobody answers. As for this being a question worth asking , please, let me decide what is worth, for me, to ask or not. Much obliged. I am not assuming anything, I am asking a question and I am not talking to just anybody walking in the street, but I am addressing people who, like the distinguished photographers here who own expensive cameras and take excellent photographs, and are certainly able to discern between an Iphone print and a good camera print.
  12. They are certainly very elegant but how would you use a Gariz halfcase to mount the camera on a tripod with an arca mount? Adding a plate under that would be very clumsy beside the expense of the garitz halfcase.
  13. the best organic sensor will be a drink that you drink and transforms you brain into a camera. Then you can send via WI-Fi the pictures to anyone else.
  14. Unfortunately not here and by a long shot not! The price in the NL is, almost everywhere, (again, it was already there a couple of weeks ago then they put the price up) €539, while the price of the X-E2S is €699 the X-T10 is €675
  15. I’m not disappointed in the least. The cameras are just different in minor details so one needs to adjust when jumping from one to another. I am in fact very happy about the purchase that I’ve made. I have already had a X-E1 ( my first X camera) and so I found back the fun of handling a lightweight body the only drawback compared to the X-T1 has to be the size of the electronic viewfinder. There is nothing like peeking into the X-E2 to make you want to go back to the huge (in comparison) evf of the X-T1. The new firmware has made a very different camera of the X-E2 ( I’ve used it with its original firmware for a couple of days prior to the upgrade) and since the firmware assigns functions to this camera which weren’t “ native” to this body, they are at times “ hidden” or not as clear cut as they are on the X-T1 or perhaps even more on the X-T10
  16. Most other brands, besides being a lot cheaper than Fuji, have a central screw-in to the camera, but, like the Fuji base, they offer the possibility to slide from left to right in a tripod attachment. One thing that the Fuji design doesn’t have is a L bracket to allow the simple vertical positioning of the camera. Yes, you can, of course use the ball head for this but it is a lot more practical to switch from vertical to horizontal. The Fuji base has ha good rubberized front grip surface which not all the “ universal” one have although the grip of universal model ( which is generally detachable ) could easily be dipped into some rubberizing coating.
  17. @typeronin have you made a large print for a X-pro 2 file ? If you did, have you compared the same enlargement to one the same print made from a X-T1 ( or X-E2). I am interested in a comparison between the two sensor in order to understand if, next to the advancements in AF and firmware, there is a real advantage between the new 24Mp sensor images (in printing) as opposed to the older 16Mp. I have read all the reason why it should be advantageous, but I am really interested in finding out whether in real life, in a real situation one cal look at the same picture, shot with the two cameras and printed very large (A2-1-0) and SEE the difference and make one want to buy the newer camera, with the newer sensor if one wants to make better large prints. If the printing quality is the same or thereabouts, the advantage of the new sensor and software might be still useful for some but completely pointless for others.
  18. so, most probably, the “ delayed because of too many orders to meet the production” was a little sugar on the fact that they were purely and simply late. The sound of the phrase: “ I met my dealer” is normally associated to a completely different situation
  19. I am not sure if you mean a small plate that you can mount under the camera while maintaining access to battery or battery and card. I have several small plates which all slide in arca-swiss type ballheads but none which guarantees access to the battery (X-T1) or Battery-card (X-E2). So that’s why I originally bought a L bracket. Those have access and offer also some protection and extra grip at the price of somewhat larger size and increased weight. They would fit most tripods and weird holsters with an arca slide ( those holsters scare me, my camera would be forever bumping into things if I had one but I suppose that if one is hiking and needs both hands free that they are the thing but I am not all that adventurous a type) There are really many and come in different prices even when they are the same. I have one for the X-T1 and they sell also models for the X-E (1 or 2). If you look around there are many at very different prices, which are the exact same product There are some around for about half the price shown here photomadd-fujifilm-xt1-grip-arca-swiss-plate-black-6_2x.jpg
  20. we will never know unless you are an insider, but, suppose there is a firmware based problem, and the camera needs a few more days to be ready, the best way to justify its delay is to say that since there were SO MANY pre orders they will delay the release of the camera. Cameras will be delivered on a first come first served base and if there were too little cameras there would have been a first wave followed by a second one. Saying that the delay is caused by wanting to provide the cameras to all the pre orders at the same time, sounds, to me , a little bit of an excuse.
  21. I don’t normally use continuous focus mode but yes, you are right, the camera does what you describe. Also my 60 macro appears to be hunting more than it did before ( I hate that it is so difficult to do these things by memory Ideally one would have to have a camera updated and another camera not updated to compare!). It performs more like before it did with firmware 4.0 . The same slight hunting appears to be true with the same lens on the X-E2. By increasing the size of the focussing area by one click things are better both with my 60mm and with the 18-55 at 55mm. Mmmm! A bit puzzled there! Has the 60mm, especially, done a step back?
  22. life is full of obstacles and opportunities and one can indeed see a problem for every solution or a solution for every problem.
