Fuji XT-20 Focus Problems up close

Hi! First post here. Just bought a Fujifilm xt-20 :) my first Fuji! And I'm struggling with focus on items more close up. I have a Sony rx100 and it does a much better job on focusing clearly on tags or items up close.

When I do the same with the Fuji, I get the !AF error (see first photo). The result is also blurry and just doesn't turn out well. Has anyone had this problem before? Any help greatly appreciated!!

18-55mm - it came with the camera! The kit lens

To which distrance  are ypu  taken the picture? The square is green? Yes or not?

No, the square is red and there is an !AF error. I’m trying to take photos from quite up close: maybe 5-10 inches away? When I get too close though it’s super blurry and doesn’t focus right. Hmm.

Try to put more distance between camera and object. The 18-55 has not the capacity to taken photo near. Miniumum distance is 60 Cm
