New to Fuj, and I bought several months ago the XT5. Great camera with awesome options. I'm into document and streetphotography, There's one question, , is it possible to do zone focus when you're camera is in Aperture Priority mode? Or is it only possible in the M mode?

Either way should work - both methods allow you to set aperture.

(I'm assuming when you say M mode you mean the exposure mode M and not the focus mode M).

(I'm also assuming when you say zone focus you mean the technique of setting focus at a specific distance rather then using the AF Mode of Zone).

By M mode I mean the button at the front of the camera, not the back. (Don't know how it's called in English)

I did the zone focus a few weeks ago, with succes. Now I want to try Aperture Priority. Iso on Auto, SS on Auto, and figure only out Aperture. But when I do Aperture Priority do I still see the (zone focus) distance scale on my menu while shooting)

My English explaining is not the best, haha! Hope you understand it all.

M mode on the back of the camera controls focus - aperture priority is for exposure.

Maybe I'm missing something - the distance scale isn't going to be affected by your exposure setting (aperture priority).

If you change from manual to auto focus and you still want the distance to show you will need to go into the custom display settings in the screen setup menu and check the appropriate setting.

As you have the camera why not try it?

This is getting a little confusing.

There is a switch on the front of the camera labelled M-C-S which changes the focus mode between Manual, Continuous and Single shot focus mode. In C or S modes, the camera automatically focuses the lens — for lenses that can be auto-focused — while in M mode, you twist one of the lens rings to focus the lens, the camera takes the shot only for the focus you set the lens to use.

After that, it is as @Greybeard is saying, aperture exposure and distance scale are not really related.

Hello, @Sjonsnaps hopefully You've figured out the topic on Your own by now but here's how I always did it on Fujifilm and on X-T5 currently:

Enable AF+MF
Disengage shutter AF in AF-S
Set DOF scale for MF to film (rather than pixel)

From now on You operate in AF-S only in a Back-Button-Focusing manner. When You want to set focus distance, half press the shutter and turn the ring - the distance will stay the same, no matter what and without accidental change, unless You half press the shutter and turn the ring simultaniously again . This works in A more no problem.
Hope this helps!

    • Anyone out there have any experience/feedback on the Laowa 55 mm tilt shift? I’d be using it on the GFX 50s ii.
    • Hi, I'm researching a gimbal to get someone as a present & they use a Fuji XS-10. I did a quick search of previous threads on gimbals but all of them seem to either get no replies or spammed by a link to an Amazon list. I'd appreciate any comments from folks who've actually used specific gimbals with the XS-10. I'm aware that some, such as certain models from Zhiyun, DJI & FeiyuTech either don't say that they are fully compatible with the XS-10 but other sites say they do work ok but some functions don't. It's quite difficult to work out which functions work & which don't. Thanks.

    • This was snapped during a lunch.  Total shooting time—a few seconds. We so often read that a proper "portrait" should be snapped with a longer than normal lens, a low ISO to get lots of detail, and have a soft light held up above the head, and slightly to the side. The key, in my opinion, is always carry a camera.  Have your camera available to capture candid, authentic photographs.  Available light, no posing.   This portrait used 2000 ISO, the lens wide open at f4, and 1/100 sec. to stop any movement.  I didn't even take time to compose—I just snapped.  I leave the "Face Detection" on unless I'm photographing a landscape or subject other than a person. The GFX100RF has the equivalent of a 28mm lens.  The large sensor renders fine detail even at fairly high ISO ratings.  And the drawing of the lens is just perfect in my opinion.  It was set to B & W, with slightly reduced sharpness and clarity (set in-camera).  Ideal for "portraits."  Now, for some subjects I will likely increase the sharpness and clarity to the normal setting.  The camera is new, and I'm still experimenting with it.
