X-T1 and X-E1 file sizes

Hi all,

 

Just noticed that my X-E1 takes more shots with the same size memory card than the X-T1. Now I'm almost sure that the only 2 settings that dictate file size are Image Size and Image Quality. Is there another setting that I'm missing? Or does the X-T1 record more information than the X-E1?

I believe the X-E1 records 12 bits and the X-T1 records 14 bits. So yeah, the RAW files with be larger. For comparison: Sony's latest and greatest, still with lossy compression on RAW files, is effectively recording 11 bits. Nikon lets you choose 14 bit or 12 bit recording, no compression, lossy, or lossless compression. It would be nice for Fuji to add a lossless compression option. Fuji 16mp raw files are much larger than Nikon 16mp raw files.

The X-E1 stores 12 Bits per pixel in 1.5 bytes whereas the X-T1 stores 14 bits per pixel in 2 bytes, resulting in a 33% larger file size.

Thanks for that guys, I thought it was to do with 12 or 14 bit recording but wasn't sure. I wonder how much it affects the files in the long run and how much more leeway it gives post processing.

does the same go for the x-e2? cause i get about 10% more shots on the x-e2 comapred to the x-t1 (same fresh formated memorycard)
