Fuji XT1 + 16-55 - grinding noise on start up

I was recently on holiday in South America for 4 weeks with the Fuji XT1 and 16-55. About two weeks in, I started hearing a strange grinding noise each time I turned the camera on. It seemed to me the noise came from the lens as it was activating, but I'm not 100% sure. The noise seemed to go away a few days later, and hasn't happened since.

 
I'm a little concerned with what that means for the lens.... it is still in warranty as I have only had it for 10 months. The lens has not exhibited this noise any time previously but to be honest, I didn't use that lens that often during that time.

 

Am I worrying over nothing? Any ideas what it could be?
