Fujifilm X-S20 Webcam issue on M1 Apple Silicon.

Hi guys,

I am having a problem when I want to use my Fujifilm X-S20 as a webcam with my Macbook Pro with M1 Silicon processor. According to the information I received from Fujifilm's official website, the camera can work as a webcam without requiring any extra software.

When I connect the camera to my Macbook with the cable that comes out of the box, the camera software (Zoom, Photo Booth, Discord, Google Meet, etc.) recognizes the camera, but when I select the camera and want to see the webcam preview, the camera's LCD screen first becomes dark once or twice, and then the normal display appears on the LCD screen. In the webcam application, a black screen appears.

The camera has the latest firmware version which is 1.13 also lens firmware version is up to date. I can use the camera via USB tethering with Capture One without requiring any program. I can't use the camera as a USB card reader.

Is there anyone experiencing similar problems as me?

You probably already tried this, but just to be sure:

Also, there are similar menu settings that need to be turned on to have it be in card reader mode.

p.s. Welcome to the forum.

There is a posting over on reddit about a work-around, but I do not know if it will work for you:

I am using Ventura 13.4. The Sonoma 14.1.1 update is available now but I'm not updating it.

I think Ventura 13.4 has a camera privacy indicator because when I opened my default MacBook camera there was a green dot on the camera. Firstly I will try to restore legacy video device support. I will share the result.

I can't recall if PhotoBooth is an app that X-Webcam supports. On the Fujifilm website it mentions that only some apps have been tested as being compatible: (Google Meet (Chrome/Edge*), Teams (Chrome/Edge*), Skype (Chrome/Edge*), Zoom (Chrome/Edge*/App), Messenger Rooms (Chrome/Edge*), LINE, OBS Studio
*Chromium Edge  )

X-Webcam requires the camera's connection setting in a specific mode. Look for one of these settings in your camera menu...

CONNECTION SETTING
in the setup menus *2
PC CONNECTION MODE USB TETHER SHOOTING AUTO
CONNECTION MODE USB TETHER SHOOTING AUTO
PC SHOOT MODE USB AUTO

Also, there is a menu setting to change whether you are shooting tethered or want to use the camera as a USB reader.

To use the camera as a USB reader...
